Acer's Ferrari 1100 ultraportable gets reviewed
You'd have to turn your brain all the way back to September to spot the first time we got wind of Acer's Ferrari 1100 laptop, but the folks over at PC Mag have finally received one in and took the time to spill the beans on how it fared. Right out of the box, it was criticized for being entirely too hefty for a 12.1-incher, but then again, it does have an integrated DVD burner. Still, the lack of a LED-backlit display along with the totally underwhelming performance when benchmarked was hard to overlook. 'Course, it wasn't exactly a slouch, but it certainly didn't live up to expectations. Unfortunately for folks hoping for the best on this rig, it looks as if your $1,860 could be spent better elsewhere, but feel free to dig into the whole review to find out exactly why it earned just three out of those five oh-so-coveted stars.

AND if you read it too quickly it looks like
"spilled the beans on how it farted"

Aesthetically, it looks hideous. I can't believe Ferrari allowed their name to be placed on this.
happy_penguin @ Mar 1st 2008 2:06PM
The stickers on the left palm rest area is the worst part about it. Other than that I think it looks fine but hardly worthy of the Ferrari name.

Go look at the Ferrari store. If it can be painted red and have a prancing horse taped onto it, they'll sell it for significantly more than it's worth. See:

I'd rather pay an extra 100$ and get a Macbook Pro
mushrooshi @ Mar 1st 2008 3:32PM
I'd rather make a custom gaming rig, since I already have a Macbook.

It just doesn't mean what it used to...

The model previous to it was also sweet. They were never the best but they were certainly more exciting.
BradVT @ Mar 1st 2008 11:44AM
yeah, its pretty gawdy, but I think all the Ferrari models they have made have been gawdy. I thought the Ferrari line was supposed to be a gaming line, so I don't understand why PC mag didn't mention any of its gaming capabilities. I also thought it was funny when they were talking about available ports and they said the MBA has a backlit keyboard.

Fugly.
collide007 @ Mar 1st 2008 12:24PM
This thing does not deserve a Ferrari badge, first an SUV and now this, why is ferrari letting their brand be tainted so?

Looks like it was made in the fucking nineties.

I have a MacBook Pro with two official Ferrari stickers on it. Looks heaps better, how did Ferrari allow this monstrosity? Acer must pay well.
Wolfticket @ Mar 1st 2008 1:05PM
If they bring out an Acer branded Ferrari I'll be all over it.
Turd @ Mar 1st 2008 1:32PM
I can tell by that cheap shiny piano like plasic finish that is was designed in south east asia. why are they so obsessed with it in recent time? you can tell what you want but asians just dont know shit about good design. only exception: japan. check out nec's public displays for example, they are simple, rugged functional and excellently processed. just as they should be.
Netmagix @ Mar 1st 2008 2:50PM
That is hideous! Looks like a proper fat slag! The ASUS Lamborghini looks miles better! Lets have a race shall we...oh it's all over now!

Na, I don't think so, they all ship with Vista Business for the "I may not know much about deign or computers but look, that one has a Ferrari sticker on it!"-type execs.
My two year old B1800 Persario 12.1" is lighter than this and it has a DVD-RW slot too!

Demolishing the ferrari brand. Somethings are just meant to stay exclusive.
The head honchos over @ ferrari are trying extremely hard to rank in profits from diffrent angles using the name but they are going at it in the wrong way.
erhan @ Mar 2nd 2008 1:42AM
Asus > this crap.
any Asus laptop would 0wN this.
note to acer:
please try again.

Maybe it's just the image quality, but for a second, I thought the image on the screen was a capture from "Out of the World."
