Acer ups the Altos easyStore SOHO NAS to 3TB
Acer's been pretty low-key with its SOHO-targeted Altos easyStore NAS offerings, but it's not just letting it wither away either, upping the capacity today to a max of 3TB. The black four-drive tower features a web interface to disk options like RAID levels and automatic backup schedules, and Acer bundles in a bootable CD that allows you to restore from catastrophic system failures. It's not clear when the 3TB easyStore is going to make it out, but the 2TB version has been available for large discounts and garnering decent reviews since August, so you may want to start poking around if you're looking to jump aboard the NAS train.

So they swapped the 4 x 500GB for 4 x 750GB
I better go tell all my friends.
Are we going to have another article when they finally figure out you can go 4 x 1000GB?

Hey, Nilay, you forgot to fix the tags.

Does it have built in sharing across networks with the 360, PS3, etc? How about torrent downloading in addition to a complete download manager?
If it meets those basic requirements, I might be interested.

If thats the case, then you may want to take a look at a Windows Home server system or a Linux box. NAS devices, while (some are) hackable, they are generally too memory or cpu constrained to everything you just described in one appliance.

Ive seen several NAS boxes that support ALL of those functions, and at a smaller price than this one to. (Ive looked into this one since posting that comment).
I do agree though, the best option for me right now is probably FreeNAS, WHS, or UHS (when they finish it)

This seems a bit out of date. freedom9 holds the North American channel for this NAS. Acer OEM's from freedom9's Parent Company. I believe freedom9 has a 4Tb firmware for this exact model. I'd suggest doing some research before investing in an Acer doppelgänger. =D
