While poking around the ASUS booth this morning we had a chance to witness the world premier unveiling of the
ZX1 Lamborghini. We even took a few shots before it went under the glass. However, the real treat is the UI based on a Windows Mobile 6.1 core running special ASUS tweaks. It's "just like the iPhone" according to our friendly ASUS guide. The device is expected to fetch an unsubsidized €1,000 ($1,500) price tag when this 3G world-phone launches in Europe this May. Maybe you'll think it's worth it when we get back to you in a few with a video of the GUI albeit sans all that Lamborghini theme nonsense.

how bout this? in stead of saving a months wages for the phone, why not save 186 months for a Gallardo or even 333 months for a Murcielago? tempting eh?

Talk about sensible consumer advice! :)

Dude! A months wages? $1,500.00? I think it is time for you to choose a new career path, something that does not involve manual labor. Months wages... that just made my morning!
Reid @ Mar 3rd 2008 9:19AM
Maybe he meant a month's worth of free cashflow? After all, it's hard to save the parts of your income that go to rent/mortgage, car payment/insurance, utilities, food, etc..
Marc @ Mar 3rd 2008 10:50AM
thats exactly what i meant. how much money do you have left after paying a mortgage, electric, telephone and gas bills and random car tax and insurance? hmm?
Gorillamonk @ Mar 3rd 2008 12:00PM
where the hell do you get the random car tax? In mass we get the most lauded taxes, and I can't even call them random. But, if you have 1.5k after all those bills good luck to you. You should really save it and not buy the phone. Beside, if you buy the car, they probably will give it to you.

$1500 for a QVGA phone? Sure...
CamryFan88 @ Mar 3rd 2008 6:08AM
I'd buy it.
Then again I like buying weird phones.

Aesthetically speaking, it would be a good thing if Acer and Asus made their car-branded gadgets a little less Ferrari or Lamborghini and a little more Mercedes Benz. Classy rather than showy.

This looks like a pda from the late 90s

"It's just like the iPhone"
when ford come out with a new sports car, they don't say 'it's just like a ferrari'. Comparing yourself to the opposition is a sign of weakness
frankXchange @ Mar 3rd 2008 8:27AM
It just doesn't look...fast enough, for something with the Lamborghini name. Plus I have the irrational expectation that it should have gull-wing doors.
Steffen Jobbs @ Mar 3rd 2008 8:30AM
Yup, just like the iPhone. You can send and receive calls on it.
mike k. @ Mar 3rd 2008 8:35AM
ugly!
Bruce from Montreal @ Mar 3rd 2008 8:52AM
Don't you hate it when companies still design their product with gaps or grooves in the plastic that collect dust and as a result drive you crazy trying to clean them? $1500 could be better spent than on something that will always look dusty.
Nate @ Mar 3rd 2008 9:42AM
I'm holding out for the Kia phone.
Allen @ Mar 3rd 2008 11:30AM
Lolz.
To the phone, I'm going to start using double sided tape painted sparkly gold and branding my iPhones as "Lamborghini." Then sell those for way more than they are worth, too.
Jeff @ Mar 3rd 2008 11:28AM
Funny how people still take pictures of devices while OFF.
...must not have much of an interface.
Christian @ Mar 3rd 2008 12:50PM
Is it just me or that shape in the middle reminds me of Mazda RX-8's turbine engine design...
phanbouy @ Mar 3rd 2008 3:31PM
cool... a fancy keychain
macserv @ Mar 3rd 2008 6:44PM
Not AWFUL. Definitely a damned sight better than the Ferrari trash of late.
The Land of Smeg @ Jun 15th 2008 5:46AM
looks like crap
I'm sure that I'm not the only one who is sick of the iPhone being mentioned in every phone-related post, but I really think that the iPhone is a good benchmark to see how lame/overpriced this phone is. Sure it has 3G, but it would actually be cheaper to get an iPhone and a 3G Data Card separately - And not have a phone that sucks
