If you hadn't guessed from the headline, and as rumored
just an hour ago, there's 9-inches of LCD on this thing. Actually, 8.9, but who's counting? We found out that and a few other little tidbits about this Eee PC "New Generation" at the ASUS booth just now, but for the most part the 9-inch Eee PC is quite similar to its 7-inch
forebearer. Anything past that ASUS is saving for tomorrow's press event when this laptop will become officially official, but whatever they end up calling it (Eee PC 900 is rumored), it's certainly for real. The battery impact of the new display is said to be "negligible," with 2.5 to 3 hours of battery quoted. ASUS wouldn't let us turn it on since it's all so very secret at the moment, but they did confirm some release details. The 9-inch Eee will hit in the "middle" of 2008, with that
€399 pricetag for the 12GB version, but other capacities available (we saw an 8GB on display). No word yet on US pricing, but we're trying to pry it out of them.
I'm in Taipei right now. Wish they had it available so I could just pick one up in the store. Wouldn't mind the dual-language keyboard.
I hope that it would be possible to run Leopard on it at least as good as we run OS X Tiger on the Eee 701.

I'm typing this from my 7" epc right now....
Oh well. I knew the day was coming, and I really love this computer. Honestly, it's worth being an early adopter.
I think that's a great PC!

HOLD ON!!! the res is 1024 x 600!!!! its higher!!! yes!!!! woooooooo!!! http://www.eeepc.net/
I want a 9-inch, 8 gig Surf. Forget the stupid webcam, and cut down on the thick bevel around the edges. Sell it for $400, and I'd buy it in a second. Maybe by Christmas 2008 they'll have it....
Does anyone ever really NEED a webcam, especially on an ultra portable? Seems like an easy thing to cut out and save money on, and nobody would miss it.
its available now at http://www.pccorner.com.ph/products.do?action=showproductdetail&categoryid=57&productid=4243
but in an overpriced EDITION hehehe
you're right, the placement of the right shift key is the biggest problem i see myself having with the keyboard... won't stop me from getting the 900 though :p
one reccomendation: download a key remapping program, like KeyTweak, and make Up Arrow the same function as Right Shift. (I've had to do this after my Dell laptop enter key fell off, RightCtrl is now my enter ;)
