Samsung intros five new SyncMaster LCD monitors under $400
Just in case Samsung's slate of new T-series LCDs weren't enough for you, the outfit is also introducing five new commercial desktop displays for under $400. The SyncMaster 743BX ($239), 943BX ($279), 943BWX ($269), 2043BWX ($309) and 2243BWX ($359) range from 17- to 22-inches in size and all provide a height adjustable stand, an ultra-slim (15-millimeter) bezel and a dynamic contrast ratio of up to 8,000:1. You'll also find an HDCP-compliant DVI port, the firm's own MagicColor technology to "enhance color automatically for areas that need color correction," and a suite of touch-sensitive controls to boot. The whole lot even comes with a three-year warranty and can be had for your office right now.

I might have to finally retire my CRT.

I want to know what happened to these:

I have put off buying a new LCD because this thing looks so beautiful. Wasn't it supposed to be out months ago?
Sigh.

I wouldn't mind that 22" but I wished that someone would make a 24" 'square' lcd monitor. I like widescreen but for whatever reason, I like the ol 4x3 config better..

really? i just dumped my old 17-er i had running next to my 15" MBP as an extended desktop. it's a westinghouse 24" 1920x1200.. it's so much space i just leave the 15" screen off.
anyway, i find that the 24" widescreens have all the vertical headroom one could want.. i find myself making windows narrower and taller on this new screen so i can fit 2 apps side by side... i.e. i don't feel like i'm missing anything without the extra couple inches on top and bottom.. there seems to be diminishing returns on stuff in the vertical dimension

I like the widescreen for multiple apps, but prefer the 4x3 for single application use. Call me wierd..

You're not weird. 4:3 is still the only way to play classic games properly, and of course all new games run properly in 4:3 as well.
I've got a 1600x1200 Samsung 204B, and it's a fantastic display.

Got a couple of these at the office last week, they sure are shiny.
Eh @ Mar 3rd 2008 4:40PM
why are they still making 4:3? Actually I dont think its even 4:3, it looks like one of those horrendous "almost" square LCD's.
tekdroid @ Mar 4th 2008 12:45AM
most still cameras are still 4:3. Others are 3:2 (wider). Very few are widescreen.
I see nothing wrong with 4:3.
Keep in mind the 'square' LCDs made before widescreen became cheap/popular were actually even more square than 4:3; 1280x1024 resolutions were common for many years there. I'm sure lots of us still use one. THAT is far more squarish than 4:3.
1280x1024 = 1.25:1
4:3 = 1.33:1
3:2 (DSLRs, etc) = 1.5:1
Myself, I find each aspect ratio useful for certain things, none being perfect.
tekdroid @ Mar 4th 2008 12:49AM
..and you're right; the pic is one of those horrendous things you speak of :)

This reminds me, I need to get a new monitor. After spending 2 grand on a pc I forgot to upgrade my old 19in.

I wonder if this time they'll again put samsung panels in all review samples and chinese replacements panels in half the retail ones.
P.S. I like the 8000:1 dynamic contrast, if it works.
