Dreamcast demo display shows up on eBay
Man, remember when the Dreamcast was all the rage, but no one actually had one, so you could only play on in-store demo units while fending off enraged Software, Etc. employees? No? Trust us, it was quite the thrill, especially topped off with some rockin' TCBY and maybe a pensive moment at the back of Spencer Gifts -- and now you can relive it all in the comfort of your own home, here in the future. Yep, a working Dreamcast demo station has just popped up on eBay, for the shockingly low current price of £230 ($456), although you'll have to be in the UK to pick it up (or be really, really dedicated to Sega). The Dreamcast is actually eminently hackable and still has quite a following, so you're well on your way to impressing your friends high-school style. Just try to not revive those raver pants while you're at it, slick.

red spiral of death?
I think the whole lack of security was due to the fact that the saturn had a really overbearing secruity system in place. BTW to this day I still own more saturn games than PS1 games, if you like RPG's saturn had some killer ones from working designs, and in house, not to mention the best version of SOTN, and fighting games.
Despite being 10 years old, my DC still shuffles on. Although mainly the kids use it as a SNES emulator. :)
I still have my Dreamcast -- CRAZY TAXI! Skies of Arcadia! But mostly Crazy Taxi!
My brother is autistic, and we got the driving system to go with it, and he LOVED it! He's the reason we get all the video game systems, and he was glued to this one forever!
One of my favorite gaming systems ever.
The Dreamcast did have some good games but it came out too early and overall it was a very poorly designed system. Outside of the shoulder triggers the controller was terrible and the console itself looked like a toy. I know people will say that the Dreamcast controller was the best, just like people say they loved the first XBOX controller, but the controller was an ergonomic nightmare. A lot of people that played the Dreamcast on a mall kiosk walked away liking the game they played but hated the controller so much that they would never buy the system. Later on the lack of DVD meant that storage was a big issue with making games for the Dreamcast just as it is becoming an issue with the 360 now.
Games are only one part of the equation of a consoles success. Overall design and marketing mean more for the early success of a console than the number of games available. Sega failed with those. If number of games was truly the motivating factor the PS2 never would have taken off like it did, or the Wii. The PS3 nearly matched the 360's first year with a higher price and massive competition without a huge game library. Even the 360 itself, the proclaimed king of gamers consoles, barely had a hadful of games at launch and only had its first truly compelling title a year later in its lifecycle.
The only "ergonomic nightmare" of a controller ever created has and always been the PlayStation controller. Way too small and doesn't fit your hands, and has horrible stick placement.
Also, the 360 had a much more respectable game library earlier in it's lifespan than the PS3.

Really, this is pretty annoying- sorry for the triple post.
I can honestly say me and my buddies still bring out the ole' DC for a couple of hours of Worms World Party.
Doesn't anyone remember Bleamcast! and how it was able to render PS1 games better than the PS2?
There were two things that killed Dreamcast:
1) DVD
2) Piracy
And the VMU was awesome even if its sole purpose was multiplayer play-calling in NFL2K.

i am the proud owner of a dreamcast! i am not biased as to which console is the best, i like them all and see them as their own.
if i had the money i certainly would put a bid on that, it just brings back so many memories!
hey, i still play my dreamcast on a regular bases, games like under defeat, ikaruga, powerstone, soul caliber, shenmue, karous, psyvarian and bangai-o! i have just as much fun with my mates on this compared to when we play on my mates, 360, wii and ps3!
I still have my Dreamcast!
Fave games on it was Shenmue I, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (really good frame rate compare to PS2 version), and Phantasy Star Online I&II (First time experiencing MMORPG through 56k modem) ohh and Typing of the Dead!
Their controllers are a bit hard to use but after a while I got used to it.
mitchell and webb! man that tour was good.
numberflan!
oh yeah.....dreamcast.
ahh....the Dreamcast was one of the best NES emulators you could get. Reads CD-R discs. and Crazy Taxi, Panzer Dragoon, Soul Calibur were the best games...
I have one of these...but not the UK one. I have the small black one that was used in the US if anyone remembers it. Black with orange trim. Love the thing :D
dreamcast was the best "last gen" system. i dont care what anyone said. that system was revolutionary.
Sexy looking things, with cracking games. I had one along with a PS2 and traded it towards an Xbox 1. I miss the 2 player Virtua Tennis and MSR. Annoyingly, my Dad now has a Vauxhall Astra Coupe and MSR was the last game it appeared in.
Wow who would've thought there would still be news about Sega Dreamcast...
The DC always keep me thinking what good games I could have if Sega didn't given up on in pre-maturely. It will always have a place in my heart.
