As CeBIT continues to struggle with its enterprise vs. consumer identity, one thing remains constant: it's always a freak show. Alligator girl knows it even as she schleps it. See what we mean after the break.
As far as I can tell, and I'm surprised I even understood anything, some company at CeBIT is showing off durable computer products...but the idiots decide to joke about durability by having a fake mallet hit a monitor, and a cable in the mouth of a rubber crocodile(why not a rubber ducky?). But seriously though, Engadget is this really news worthy, there's not even more than two lines of text in that post. If that woman in the video, read Engadget right now, I bet she would have the same expression on her face as she did in the video, you know the one that says thats so stupid looking.
I've always watched from the sidelines as people complain about the newsworthiness of some of the articles here on engadget, undecided - but this is just ridiculous.
Does this have something to do with the Alligator biting the cable? So an abrasion/crush resistant cable from a company that makes rugged military pcs? Im still lost.
Don't you guys get it?! it's so very obvious! They are selling durable computer products and they are showing it by having a fake gator chewing on the cable and a weak hammer hitting at the screen and a ugly woman drinking coffee in the background not caring. Gee! do I have to explain everything to you people?!
"As CeBIT continues to struggle with its enterprise vs. consumer identity, one thing remains constant: it's always a freak show. Alligator girl knows it even as she schleps it. See what we mean after the break."
Allright... who's passing out the hallucinogens at CeBIT???
This is what happens when you give a news team unlimited space. Now that they don't HAVE to cut anything, they don't think that they should... They thought wrong.
It looks like she might have rolled her eyes when the demo started, but the video quality is too low to see it. YouTube sucks, it's fine for amateur stuff, but I really wish commercial websites would stop using it.
Military grade PC equipment... ok... woohoo Rubber mallet.. I would be more impressed if they would shoot it with a 22cal. She's really excited to be at Cebit.. Marketing dollars well spent!
I think the point here is this is a WTF moment. Kind of like moments of zen on the Daily Show. That in the midst of all the cool technology hotness there is a girl sitting behind a desk with a fake alligator and a motorized mallot tapping a screen. We don't know what it means, engadget doesn't know what it means and most likely even that girl doesn't know what it means.
I think this is an encoded signal of something much, much more sinister. I think that girl has been kidnapped! The alligator is chewing the cable, which means that her ties have been severed. The mallet to the monitor signals that she's a goner unless we save her. If you look at 0:08, she brings the coffee mug up to the side of her face rather than her mouth. That means she is "beside herself."
She is the one who make the hammer hit the LCD. I guess this video contuine, but some reason we can watch half. She controls the hammer with rope and feet. That's why she rolls eyes then hammer start to hit LCD. Haha Suckers Nobody think that
I laughed for ten minutes after watching that. Then I watched it again. @Sintax: I also like turtles. And bunnies, lots of bunnies. Pink bunnies. With ears. And brains. Braaaiiiinns.
Fine, Engadget. You can have the short, pointless post. And you can have the silly joke. And you can even have the coffee lady in the background, if you really need her *and* Veronica Belmont.
But you don't get to make a movie that's 40% title screen. I'm sorry.
I was an exhibitor at CeBit last year and got a chance to walk around a bit. There are all kinds of weird booths. I though that CeBit covers WAAAY too many subjects. You stand around for 7 days (only 6 days this year) and you get 2 or 3 leads a day. I would prefer to go to a smaller more focused show for 2 or 3 days, not a whole week. On the plus side we did get good German beer at the booth at the end of every day.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
I don't get it. My brain hurts now.

HA! Give that man the $10,000... funniest post of the year.

You can find her video podcasts on iTunes, if you must.
wait, what?
I've always watched from the sidelines as people complain about the newsworthiness of some of the articles here on engadget, undecided - but this is just ridiculous.
does alligator girl have a point to make? cos this post sure isn't making one

I'm so confused right now...
Why is this on Engadget? Why is this anywhere on the Internet?
It's not News, it's Engadget.
Don't drink the Kool-Aid.
I like turtles...
Did I mis something? like the point of that?
Does this have something to do with the Alligator biting the cable? So an abrasion/crush resistant cable from a company that makes rugged military pcs? Im still lost.
Maybe there was something encoded in the article? Or maybe he's hitting on her in a REALLY nerdy way?
awesome
that was riveting
not even sure where to begin. will there be a follow up article?!
hammer proof, but will it resist the bite of an alligator?
can I have those 5 seconds back please?
Don't you guys get it?! it's so very obvious! They are selling durable computer products and they are showing it by having a fake gator chewing on the cable and a weak hammer hitting at the screen and a ugly woman drinking coffee in the background not caring.

Dude. She's drinking tea. And I think that's a crocodile, not an alligator...

I think its a joke about how everything has become touch screen?

It looks like she might have rolled her eyes when the demo started, but the video quality is too low to see it. YouTube sucks, it's fine for amateur stuff, but I really wish commercial websites would stop using it.
My cat's breath smells like cat food
i spotted the hammer, but the fake handbag passed me by the first couple of times...

Wait....when are the pancakes coming in the mail?
Military grade PC equipment... ok... woohoo

I feel sorry for that hammer. :(
I would pay great amounts of money to see that alligator and hammer batteling.
Slow news day?
This is...a ridiculous way of getting the "Times Viewed" counter on the youtube video to go up. I think I watched it 10 times before getting it.
Its not funny, either.
I laughed for ten minutes after watching that. Then I watched it again.
@Sintax: I also like turtles. And bunnies, lots of bunnies. Pink bunnies. With ears. And brains. Braaaiiiinns.
Says Bruce Wayne: "You know how it is. You're at a wild party, someone starts passing around the weaponized hallucinogens...."
coffee drinking alligator lady drinks coffee
Who puts a tea bag in their coffee?
most pointless post ever
