Typo - 1pm Eastern, not 11pm (though you have it right in the headline)
Why didn't Engadget cover the Mix keynote yesterday? I find it incredibly lame that you didn't.
Why does it say 11:00PM for eastern? Did you mean 1:00PM?
pretty awesome that there is some sort of time warp so that I can view it at 11:00am here in New York. Go AAPL
Please, please, please, let there be a SlingPlayer client.
I agree! It was rumored that Sling Media may have got their hands on the SDK early. I just hope we don't have to surrender an arm and a leg/first born child for a Slingplayer!
sucks for tokyo! get your days right suckaZ!!
Do you actually think that anyone in an Asian country actually cares about the iPhone? Their phones are years ahead of ours.
Those lucky Koreans.
Yes, they do. While the phones might be more advanced, they lack style and "wtf, that's cool" factor.
Oh yeah, tell that to all the asians coming into my Apple Store buying 5 iPhones at a time to send them to singapore, china and other countries over seas. Then we'll see who's right.
Riiight.. because as we all know the whole world spins around USA and Japan is just too cool to comply w/ the standards...
Asshat :/
Not to mention all of the iPhone knockoffs.
You don't hear someone say "those lucky Koreans" very often. I wonder if you're referring to the North or the South :)
The US has it's failings, but I sure as hell am glad to be here over 95%+ of the nations in the world...
I'm in Tokyo, there are pretty cool phones here, but if they release that SDK, I'll get me an Iphone.
The iPhone won't work in Japan or Korea so I don't think they care.
finally. I've been waiting for the SDK. Maybe there'll be more too. SDK isn't just enough for me
Flash please--that's all I want. I'm sure some business people would like Office and gamers would like... games.
Not happening, sorry.
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/03/05/steve_jobs_pans_flash_on_the_iphone.html
Yeah, not happening.
maybe when the SDK platform is released, someone could make a flash browser?
I didn't think we'd actually see it tomorrow, I'm just hoping that it's in the pike.
Funny how that Apple Insider article states that mobile devices don't have access to websites that use embedded Flash (i.e, YouTube), and/or that it would be unfeasible due to the processing and battery requirements that are currently lacking.
To my knowledge, the Nokia n95-2 has this feature, and also has a considerably slower processor than the iPhone and a slightly less powerful battery, as well.
Come on Steve, enough with the excuses.
Nokia N95 has Flash Lite 2, which is NOT the same as full-blown Flash 9 on your desktop. It misses out on many things, such as streaming FLV playback.
This lack of "decent" mobile flash is not a problem limited to Apple! This is an industry problem.
@ Scott
I believe you are mistaken. Nokia brought in-browser streaming FLV support to the N95-2 within a previous FW update (I believe v15).
Here's a good example: http://www.symbian-guru.com/welcome/2008/01/new-firmware-fo.html
Flash is a pointless waste of time on the iPhone. It would be used for 2 things, videos and games. Perhaps you would like to have your porno on your iPhone, in which case I suggest websites have links to the H.264 stream instead of having people complain about a pointless waste of energy that is Flash.
As for games, shit, wait for the SDK.
@stupidnoduhdude
It looks like you're right about Nokia recently offering FL3 embedded into a FW release of one of it's models (not all N95's are eligible), however the point still stands that this is a mobile industry problem, not just iPhone. iPhone users just happen to complain the loudest. :)
FL3 also only supports desktop Flash 8, which means Flash 9 only apps (rare as they may be) still won't work even with FL3.
Personally, I think Flash-only web sites were a bad idea to begin with, and now that mobile Internet has reached a usable state, we're now experiencing the results of this poor choice on a wide scale.
fanboys
haters
people with an obsession of technology that crosses the line
blast! Too early in london for em to make it... tell Mr Jobs i'll call him in the week.
Dang it. Clock, move faster.
I guess I can check in during lunch.
Are we ever going to see this live or will it always be blogging?? Can't they get a video camera and stream it live??
Don't forget 2pm Atlantic and 2:30pm Newfoundland time!
Yeah! Anudder East Coast b'y? Yer fadder doin' good d'es days?
Bring The Sling!!!! My Slingbox is lonely, although I wonder if it'll perform well over EDGE...?
Faslane out.
Music would probably be decent....but Video wah wah wah
I use EDGE and Orb for music and it works fine, it's nice because I can listen to my whole 200+gb music collection wherever, video sucks though.
I'm Flying to Hawaii so I can be first!!! Wait, that wouldn't work would it...? LOL
Faslane, please be out tomorrow and not just talk of next month or something..Purdy Please!!!!
Please excuse my ignorance, but what is SDK???
Software Development Kit. It allows third parties to write software for a platform.
There's been SDKs for Symbian, WinMo, Palm, etc. for years.
Software Development Kit
software development kit
allows programers to bring out third party application for a certain platform
not optimistic!
Do you actually know that Tokyo isnt in Korea like you said?
:s that should be a reply to Jesse S above -.-
Confirmed no flash. Strike 1.
If the SDK isn't released tomorrow and there are crazy restrictions on what can be done with apps (no accessories etc) that could be strikes 2 and 3.
did anyone notice that Ryan always gets to write the good stories
he is the best though
-i like the thought of a slingplayer, except battery life would be approx 3 minutes.
-AIM (obviously), maybe true because of their recent news of opening up the program, but i also sometimes doubt it because they like to make money off of text messaging
-real gps
-games
...thats all i could think of for now
09:00AM - Alaska
Don't forget Alaska!
They ALWAYS forget Alaska.
Except when they call us luddites...
http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/17/alaskan-luddites-are-50th-state-to-get-e-prescriptions/
there better be some good apps coming out, i think and office app would be pretty nice. :)
One thing is for sure, I will not be paying for any apps that they release. I am sure hackers and these free open source developers can make the exact same replica of that app but FREE and possibly better than what does. This is just to say if they do make people pay (just speculating here)
My prediction: SDK test version released now, then full one at the wwdc?
then +5 from EST...?
How about a time for those in Australia? We're GMT+10 on the Eastern side of Australia...
WE WANT 3G IPHONE!!!
Yep!
Steve Jobs said that apps will cost anywhere from free-7.99 each. Widgets free-2.99. That's what he said in his keynote anyway
What were you smoking that morning?
He never said that. Ever.
Bonus $100 price-cut on the 16GB announcement please .
That's what I'm holding out for.
Flash is an industry problem dumbass....it's not Apple. Palm doesn't have it, no one does, with exception to a few (I think) I'm just saying don't blame it on apple, blame it on Adobe if you need to point a finger!
Something occurred to me a few days ago regarding this event. I used to work at Best Buy and I left in July 07. I remember them telling me then and when I go in occasionally that they would eventually start selling iPhones. I already have an iPhone. But I think tomorrow that along with everything else, they may announce that they are now allowing 3rd Party Retailers (Best Buy, Fry's, Circuit City, Target, etc.) to sell iPhones. This will definitely be good for the Apple's Stock. Also perhaps they will announce a portable battery back up that actually works (like the Griffin TuneJuice 2). There was something else that I wanted them to announce as well as everything else, but I forgot. Some of you guys may have already thought about the Retail sales and portable battery parts of my post. But whatever. Tomorrow is going to be interesting. :)
AT&T just confirmed that there will be a 3G iPhone, take a look at this "http://webpages.charter.net/zk93353/iphone.jpg"
I found it on the iPhone Page of AT&T

he's not kidding
anyone know if it's always said this?
This just in! Something's happening tomorrow! Stay tuned for more details...
does anybody think Steve is BS or is it just me?
thanks to put all the time zones in Europe because with all the time zone you have in the United States it's complicated.
It should be a great event. By the way, does anybody know if Steve Jobs will be hosting it or not?
Also, where's Sydney on the list of times???? Surely Sydney is as significant a time zone as the others! (Actually, I don't live in Sydney, but in Melbourne, Australia, which is in the same time zone). Should be considered for future posts on this great website that is engadget.com
Just a reminder: the iPhone has cell tower triangulation, not real GPS, so this roadmap might be miles off-course. Plus, since it's based on Google Maps (not the paragon of accuracy), don't be surprised if it asks developers to travel inexistent roads or even jump off a cliff.
:D :D :D
Roll on 18:00 UK time......Roll on SDK.....I dont think we are going to get much? will there be a version 1.1.5? released too?
we get bummed in london, iPhone 8gb costs $560 USD and 16GB costs $660USD
How about we see what they have to say about it before making erroneous judgements. Sheesh!
20:00 pm in Greece! Woohooo! The perfect present for my b-day if the sdk comes out today!
Cmon Engadget! Sydney is at least significant enough to put on that list. From now on why can't you just have one extra timezone for Sydney.
8:00 PM Athens, Greece (GMT+2)
