This has got to stop, people. We just can't stand to think of all these bits and bytes -- not to mention their offspring -- crammed into something like this
Buffalo LinkStation Mini NAS. Dual 500GB 2.5-inch hard drives were just never meant to be in this close of proximity. Oh, it has RAID 0 / RAID 1? We suppose those 1's and 0's will just have to suffer. The LinkStation Mini LS-WS includes an FTP server, DLNA and iTunes capability, can share a printer of USB and reads memory cards and other mass storage devices. Buffalo plans to ship it in March for 85,000 yen (about $824 US).

bob sakamano @ Mar 5th 2008 9:05AM
i bought one of these for my little boy (only 3 years old) from walmart and there were some half eaten hashbrowns from mcdonalds inside instead of the hard drive, he has been crying ever since that moment, i think it has scarred him for life. can engadget buy us a new one? it was autographed by bill gates and steve jobs too.
Marty @ Mar 5th 2008 9:06AM
How long you been waiting to bust that one out.
Ignatius @ Mar 5th 2008 9:06AM
Congratulations, Familyguyrokz. You blatantly made an ass of yourself by being another first-spewing idiot.
Why don't you comment on the article rather than racing to be stupid?

Sigh, if you're gonna put a 0 in it, at least have the decency to spell it 'pr0n'. Don't go halfway on the 1337z0rZ, d00d.

LondonConsultant @ Mar 5th 2008 9:18AM
It's 40x135x80mm for 1TB RAID 0/1...
Ghoti @ Mar 5th 2008 9:22AM
Pretty cool, but over $800????? You have a serious addiction if you pick one up at that cost... :)
sunz @ Mar 5th 2008 9:25AM
What does ITunes capability mean?
-sun
Nick @ Mar 5th 2008 10:25AM
it means that instead of using a computer that will need to be left on all the time on your network inorder to be a centralized iTunes sharing node.. put your iTunes library on this NAS and it will broadcast as an iTunes node that everyone on your LAN can stream from.
Evan @ Mar 5th 2008 9:27AM
I seriously like the concept (but not the price). Why? Because it should be QUIET! Potentially quiet enough to install in your living room or bedroom (or both if you live in a bachelor apartment) without being noticeable.
mister_s @ Mar 5th 2008 9:34AM
hehe...cant imagine a guy sitting wid his finger on the F5 key for that...hehe...wat an ass
Derek @ Mar 5th 2008 10:12AM
Um, what are you talking about Engadget?
Having 2 2.5" drives close together is FINE. Go take a look at all the new storage servers from Rackable, Dell, HP, and IBM using 2.5" drives in "close proximity" before you imply bad design.
Colin @ Mar 5th 2008 10:20AM
It was a joke, not a comment on design. That's a ton of storage for 2.5" drives.
Derek @ Mar 5th 2008 10:24AM
Nope - it was definitely a comment about the design... "Dual 500GB 2.5-inch hard drives were just never meant to be in this close of proximity. Oh, it has RAID 0 / RAID 1? We suppose those 1's and 0's will just have to suffer."
Bill @ Mar 5th 2008 10:43AM
Hahahahaha.... they're talking about the 1s and 0s as if they're people... like they're all crammed into this tiny little space.
If you think the post was written seriously you need to to start looking for your sense of humor because you've obviously lost it...
Saosin @ Mar 5th 2008 10:22AM
How is it powered?
I guess 1 USB port would be impossible, but 2 ports and no external power would be awesome.
Steve @ Mar 5th 2008 11:04AM
It's a NAS, so it's intended to stand alone... therefore, external power is probably a safe assumption.
riggs @ Mar 5th 2008 12:16PM
Dude...he likes family guy, give him a break :(
b33eazy @ Mar 5th 2008 12:37PM
2.5? so this means this would work with ps3? too bad the ps3 isn't hacked cuz u could run over 90 ps3 games on the hdd,Or over 50 depending on how big the games are.
PeterF @ Mar 5th 2008 4:18PM
It means that there is 2.5" hard drives inside of it. It does not mean it is a 2.5" drive. Does that look like a hard drive to you?

Hey guys! Posting from November 2009, via time machine. So what is this thing? It has the capacity of the PicoSD cards that come with our new 12TP cameras... you know, those "throw away" cards that only hold a few pictures.
