Dell's M209X portable projector announced, reviewed: "better bring your sunglasses"
Dell's got another portable projector coming by way of its M209X. As successor to their 3400MP portable, the M209X weighs just 2.6-pounds yet pumps a rated 2000 ANSI lumens from VGA, S-Video, composite and HDMI connected sources. Available in the "next few weeks," according to Dell, although review units have already hit the street. The cats at GCN rendered a 1,220-lumen image (1,100 at the corners) from 10 feet which they claim makes it suitable for impromptu presentations in almost any environment. It also includes a laser pointer and PowerPoint controls in the included remote control. Bottom line: the M209X offers "excellent performance" and portability for $999. Or so they say.

The higher end Dell projectors are actually pretty good. I bought a 2400MP for our church that throws a 25' wide image from about 50' and is still bright enough to be seen clearly, even with a fair amount of ambient lighting. It's not ultra portable, but it comes with a great padded case, lots of accessories, and can be mounted on a standard camera tripod.

I have a Dell 3400MP. It's a shame they got rid of the Trackpoint on the remote - it's pretty neat. I'm also mildly disappointed that it still has an XGA resolution - Optoma has an ultralight with 720p, but I guess it's still a business machine. The carrying is no lower as padded but is slicker. Still, the lower sticker price and technical improvements makes up for the compromises.

Correction: "the carrying case is not as well padded"

If it's anything like other Dell ultra-portable projectors I've seen, it'll be bright, for sure, but the colors will be HORRIBLY washed out, and the image will be accompanied by enough DLP rainbow effect to make you sick.

We have Dell projector in http://shop.it.ee and it's just fine piece of presentation equipment. The reason to purchase Dell was due to cheal bulb price. Interestin, is it still so?
