XPERIA X1 shows AT&T graphic at CeBIT -- what could it possibly mean?
So it seems the X1 being shown off at CeBIT following its MWC debut last month is equipped with a particularly curious panel in its software load. Anyone care to take a guess? No cheating and looking at the one we've circled now. Yeah, okay, it's that big AT&T logo front and center, which makes an appearance in several of PHONE Magazine's shots of the interface. We'd like to believe that means that AT&T is a lock to pick up one of the hottest Windows Mobile devices ever manufactured, and indeed, it probably does -- its 3G radio is certainly ripe for the job -- but it's entirely possible to think that Sony Ericsson is still in the process of selling carriers on the device, and is simply trying to get 'em to crack a smile by loading their logo. Keep your fingers crossed, ladies and gentlemen.

My iPhone is crying in my pocket :P
My iPhone is jealous because I traded it for a Tilt! Its with an over protective white guy that needs to loosen up!
i love my tilt, and even though it laughs at the iphone it is weeping for(or at, not sure) the x1.
It weeps because it will have the new smart good at everything jock[phone] next to it in ts travels!
I'm so disappointed. Why oh why 65k TFT??
I'm still getting it.
james cameron : you won't see a difference between this and a 16M colors TFT on a phone, big numbers are just marketing..
Forget your iPhone, it means I just may cry with delight.
I mean, at&t never picks up Sony Ericsson's sweetest phones!
@andi
You can see a bit of difference between a 65k vs 16m and it usually depend on the images and screen size. You will see color bending in 65k. As for 256k vs 16m, that'll be a bit harder to tell.
AT&T probably the worst carrier in US in terms of customer service and cost of service! No Thanks!
your kidding right. att destroys sprint thats why everyone is leaving sprint
Let's see... they're a little better than Verizon and almost as good as T-Mobile in prices and:
I'm getting tired of people "expertly" comparing technology companies' customer service. Technology companies have bad customer service, that's just the way it is. They ALL do. And no, your "GREAT, GODLIKE" CS experience with company X and horrible experience with company Y doesn't count for anything. I guarantee you I could find people from all the different carriers with both good and bad experiences.
I agree somewhat, but disagree on one company: T-Mobile. I've never, ever, had a bad experience with them. Their service is so pleasant that you almost want your phone to mess up...they're that nice! Look up "Sue Nokes," it'll explain a lot.
@ Pavan
You kinda just missed the whole point mate. :-)
I've used Verizon, Sprint and ATT in the last 4 years; and ATT has had by far the worse coverage and unreliable connections in my area. I haven't had stellar customer service any of those companies.
Does giving the government unquestioned access to all their logs and records count as slightly worse customer service than the other carriers?
@Darkest Daze
No...no it doesn't. But thanks for asking.
I really, really want this phone, but..
If it's not for t-mobile I'm not getting it. My family and almost everyone I know has had terrible experience with AT&T here in the bay area. Been with T-mo the last few years and the only complaint I have so far is the lack of 3g, but that'll be fixed eventually (at this rate, as soon as other carriers have some fancy 4g network -_-) But the good prices and unmatched customer service, as well as lenient unlocking practices really make up for that.
Are you serious!?! Comparing at&t's coverage map of the Bay Area with T-Mobile's coverage map of the Bay Area makes me weep for T-Mobile users. Obviously I'm not from there, but I go there about every year. I was just there this past winter with family all around the 680 corridor and one of my cousins with a Shadow could barely get a signal around San Ramon. Meanwhile, my iPhone had atleast 3 bars my whole week there, and about 75% of the time in the Bay Area had 5 bars.
Over on howardforums they're saying that this is already a locked in phone for T-mobile when 3G is ready. Dunno how reliable that is.
It may just be that they're making deals with BOTH AT&T and T-Mobile. That'd be fine by me. But I wouldn't ever take an AT&T contract -- their data plans/policies suck ass.
Any phone that I'd plan to use with data would have to come from T-Mo or Sprint (the only ones with true unlimited data tethering plans). Verizon and AT&T have too many limitations for their data plans.
T-Mobile Europe. . . . not America. T-Mobile Europe has 3G. Unless this is gonna be the device that T-Mobile will release along side the 3G net work that is supposed to start out this year or next year.
Not only does AT&T have just as lenient unlocking practices, but if you call they'll either WALK YOU THROUGH setting up an unlocked phone using ATT settings as well as pretty much no hassle on unlocking a phone. They even have instructions on their website.
Plus the whole NO-3G thing is an instant turn off for T-Mobile, oh and coverage too.
Tito:
yes, which part of "when 3G is ready" did you not understand?
Well, I dont want to wait that long and I am stuck in a contract so I cant get out anyways. If this is europe 1st, and they have a release date with in the next month I will sell my tilt get a prepaid and then get that phone.
@RC I'm talking from personal experience, not coverage maps. When I travel around the bay I generally have better signal than my friends with AT&T Customer service is what really turned me away from them. Some people have had good experiances with them, sure, but I felt as a customer they treated me and my family like crap, so I switched to t-mobile and the rest of my family switched to verizon. T-mo's customer service has been amazing to me.
And like I said before 3g isn't a big deal to me. I don't use my phones browser often and when I do I don't mind waiting a few more seconds when I know I'm getting better customer service and a cheaper monthly bill than I would elsewhere.
Don't know where you are but in my part of the bay area, T mobile has the WORST coverage. You can't get a signal inside buildings, while on ATT you can. May be just my area though. In terms of CS, I agree ATT is crap. They have always been crap in CS and continue to be crap in CS.
Is that not a T-Zones screen/launcher to the right of the at&t screen? The phone does have the 1700MHz band, if I'm not mistaken.
Too bad the pic is low res... but I think that it is tmo...
I would love for this to be on at&t!!
Me too. I test phones for a living and I can’t wait for this bad boy. I’m gonna be all over it like "stink on shit"-su...
Same here, if it's not for T-Mobile, then no dice for me.
The fact that it's not possible for Verizon to have this phone makes me want to firebomb their offices.
Why so they can limit the OS and over charge on data?
Well, that just makes me want to firebomb their offices and piss in the ashes. You know?
Go with at&t then :). They have better phones and all the phones have their own OS so there is a learning curve and its funner to use. Rather than already knowing what to do, but just getting a different look.
come on! verizon! please! for the love of god! must we get screwed with all of these second rate phones? please sony! cingular's service may be a little worse than verizon's but they get all the good phones! the voyager?! are you kidding me?
It depends on where you live. Why is everyone a Verizon lover? They LIMIT every phones OS, so there is no differences and no point in getting a new phone because you will get the same OS with a different phone body. Basically your buying a shell.
@tito
jeez don't remind me. i HATE (read: absolutely, passionately, deeply DESPISE) the verizon phone os. i swear it was written by a 4 year old.
Yea, if they got this phone they will do like they did with the q . . .
I agree that Verizon OS is utter nonsense, but between a stripped OS and AT&T's questionable coverage, I'd say the former is the lesser of two evils. IMO, of course.
I also can not stand the buzzing noise from GSM over the radio, etc.
Yeah, I'd hope Verizon get better some phones too. They do that one of those HTC phones similar to the tilt and the t-mobile wing. It is definitely their restrictions that's keeping the phone manufactures away from them. I think they also turn down a lot of the phones themselves. The only reason I stay with them is for their coverage, which is although, the whole point of a cellular phone.
The real question that's on everyone's mind is... Will this one actually come to Canada?
The real answer thats on everyones mind ...when was the last time Canada got a bad ass phone like this?
Guess I'll just have to go down to the 'states, buy it and bring it back up here like I did with the iPhon--- I mean, I'm on AT&T!
It's Sony Ericsson so it should be coming to Canada. Fido and Rogers will definitly have this. It's not like the iphone situation.
Certainly not, at least not for a great while. Rogers' new $20 unlimited data plan only covers WAP (yes like 1993) browsing! Seeing as they're the only ones up here with 3G and that they're greedy as all hell, I highly doubt we'll ever see the X1. That being said, Rogers did pick up the Tytn a year late...and crippled its wifi.
Ya we'll get it... long after everyone else.
Really hate payin $50 a month for unlimited data on Fido, and my Treo 680 is really showing it's age, but unless I want the Touch through Bell I see no alternative but to keep with it.
I'd kill for a phone like this with reasonable data rates. Not literally.. well... probably not.
If you follow the link it seems clear that the above reference to AT & T is nothing but a thumbnail link to AT & T website on the new xperia-x1

Nevertheless it seems a subltle indication for things to follow

Dont worry guys, the panel right next to it looks like a Tzone panel.
Compare that upper left hand icon on the panel to the right of the AT&T to this icon of Tzones.
