Apple finally let us know how we're going to grab all those snazzy new
SDK-developed apps: App Store. The application will run right on your iPhone or iPod touch (it's going to be included in the next firmware update) and lets you choose your apps and download them straight to the device. Unfortunately this will be the "exclusive way" to get new apps, which might not sit well with the "free, as in free speech" crowd. Apps will include an electronic certificate, and if a developer does something malicious, Apple can "track them down and tell their parents." Porn is also a no-no. Developers get a 70% cut of revenue, while Apple takes 30% for store "upkeep," though the company claims it does not plan to make money off the store, and if developers wish to release their app for free they can certainly do so. You can also sideload applications you've purchased in iTunes, and updates can be pushed automatically to your app by developers.
paid or free, uploading apps costs $99, after than its up to you.
It would be pretty gay if you have to pay for a copy of Windows Live Messenger or other programs of the sort given that they are free on PC and Mac.
Apple is really scared of Google's Android platform. That's the main reason why they are letting 3rd party/sdk's come and have stuff for the iphone/touch. When Android finally takes over the cell phone software platform....it will be "iphone whaa?"
"I've had an app store for my Windows Mobile touch screen phone (which has GPS, 3G and other useful things, by the way) for years"
..... Right, but iPhone & iTouch users will get that functionality on a device that is elegant, well-built and makes access to this functionality a WHOLE lot less cumbersome and annoying! There's the difference. I've had Pocket PCs, Palm devices, smartphones and they are all a God damned pain in the ass to use.
I built my first PC, and I've walked the Micro$oft path for YEARS.... Functioned as a tech support guy in my office, which has nothing but Windows....
I switched in Oct. 06 to Mac, and I'll never look back. I still use WinXP (through Boot Camp) for gaming.... but that's it. Music production, PhotoShop, browsing, newsgroups.... I boot it into OSX, baby.
if you'd watch the video, he says that if the dev makes the apps free, they're free on the app store
I was wondering if anyone knows when the new apps are coming out? Today is April 1st & I can not find the "App Store".
Thanks!
Well, i don't beleive it is unreasonable to susspect a host of new FREE fantastic apps in the new store. Jailbreak apps were free, and they could have charged by making you donate before using it. They did not, and anyone who feels that developpers will be stingy with their products underestimates the kindness of humanity.
I don't care if I have to pay for an app that I can download and use without needing a wifi spot. I have an I touch and I just want some cool apps that I can use without being online!! Web apps are cool and all but what about when I am on the road or all wifi spots are locked down? I will pay for the hard work and ingenuity that goes in to apps I have no problems with that!
When will it be working
like when will it show up on my phone app store
the paid for apps that are good will be thrown onto installer.app cracked/free
loler
donation only or gtfo
I develop mobile games and I can tell you first hand that most of us don't make a dime on our efforts. Most of us do it as a hobby and or the hopes that our hobbies might be noticed and absorbed into the ecosystem. I'm sorry to you kids out there that believe everything is owed to you at a free cost. People spend months/years on developing this content and to expect it all for free?? That's naive at the least. Sure some developers will want you to test their products so they can get user feedback to make it better(which is where you will see the majority of the "FREE" stuff). When you do see a charge do remember someone spent many many hours developing it and are most likely making a lot less that you assume...
I'm hopeful we can adopt a pay per play ethic and support the people who spend hours on end developing the atmospheres you all have learned to love and respect.
