Homebrew Bejeweled game used to initiate marriage proposal
Although this is far from being the weirdest union (or proposal, for that matter) we've ever seen, Xanga user p3ng decided to throw tradition to the wind (at least momentarily) when proposing to his now-fiancée. Put simply, he built a custom version of Bejeweled (the lady's favorite game in the whole wide world) in which a pixelated engagement ring scrolled onto the screen once a certain score was hit. Needless to say, his awestruck girlfriend could barely contain her excitement as she uttered "yes," and we absolutely expect the Guitar Zeros to be the house band at the forthcoming reception.

I now know someone famous!!
Biff @ Mar 7th 2008 2:20PM
That's awesome and very romantic. He went thorugh all that trouble working the code inorder to present his virtual right to his fiancée. That's a very clever way to propose. Idunno, that's pretty hard to top. Congratulations p3ng!
vaudeve @ Mar 7th 2008 2:25PM

Lets turn this into a drinking game. Every time a (supposedly) female commenter post a comment containing "aww", have a shot.
Seriously though, that was really sweet of him.

I think it's cute and clever. "Bejeweled," and all that.
Yeah, it's sort of nerdy, but in an endearing sort of way, which is what I think he was going for.
Congrats to both of them. :)

Dimplemonkey @ Mar 8th 2008 9:02AM
That was very cool. Not necessarily the Bejeweled part as much as all the time he took to get all of that set up. Geek love, you can't byte it.
silverblackvoid @ Mar 8th 2008 9:27AM
nerds rule!!! congrats.
Drew @ Mar 8th 2008 11:23AM
I did something like that once. Except it was to ask a girl out. This girl I really liked at the time LOVED to draw using this one application on my Treo. So that sparked an idea. Why not write "will you go out with me" on the coloring pad application on my Treo. Then I though how should I get her to open it? So I invited her over to watch a movie and said "hey it's kinda cold in here. Let me go run and fetch some blankets real fast and I'll be back." but then I said "oh and here's my phone if you want to draw on it" which made her happy. When I was out getting blankets I heard "oh my god... YES!!" coming from the room indicating she found the note. She loved it, and she said yes too! ;)

This is why computer engineers are 10x sexier than rockstars!
ZeroCorpse @ Mar 8th 2008 12:55PM
That's very sweet and romantic. It's a good thing she didn't suck at Bejeweled.
And now a personal message to p3ng: RUN AWAY! It's a trap! You'll be much happier if you remain single! Don't let romance blind you! Your single life is about to end and everything you enjoy or like about yourself will be crushed under her boot-heels to make room for more throw pillows! All your stuff will be in a garage sale or closet, and all her stuff will be EVERYWHERE! Your friends will be driven away when she feels threatened by them! Your social life will be terminated! You're looking at countless nights of arguing, silent treatment, and wondering if she poisoned your drink because she saw you chatting with a cute girl at work and is now acting weird. Flee! Flee before your spirit is crushed and your dreams are forcibly abandoned. Run!
Sorry. I just think every man deserves this warning before he gets married. If you're still certain after that, then I guess congratulations are in order, and I hope you're happy together.
