Phenom 9900-powered case mod could lift off at any moment
You know that potent 2.6GHz Phenom 9900 CPU that quite a few folks are waiting for? Apparently, exactly one of said chips has escaped the labs (with AMD's blessing, of course) and made its way into the sponsored (and recently completed) Project: Phenom gaming rig. Of course, the design here is way, way over the top, and while folks allergic to chrome and not so fond of blatant overkill may be scrunching their noses up right about now, there's no denying that it's packin' a nice set of internals. Hit up the read link for a gazillion and one images along with a number of construction videos -- just slip on your shades beforehand, cool?

That may be the best looking mod I have ever seen.
Though, it is a modded version of the best looking case I have ever seen. The Thermaltake SwordM.
god no
Wait, it's based on a Thermaltake case? They made an ugly case into a fugly case.
geek
The Thermaltake Armor is NICE. They make good cases.
You drive a riced civic?
No, I do not. Hopefully I can save up enough money to buy an E46 M3.
Bah. Audi.
hey, atleast you didn't say Mercedes.
As for the Phenom, Why can't they just release it to the public?!? And why an "AM2+" socket. god. I had to buy a new motherboard to go AMD 64, why cant you give me an excuse to go to PCIe 2.0!!! I promise I'll buy a couple 3870X2s...
For now, back to my Audi.
Audi TT is too girly of a car.
I want to see a video of this thing opening.
I want to see a video of this thing get launched into outer space.
I was able to read it once, but when I went back, it said I was banned :( I didn't even do anything. /cry
EPIC.
All that work and only 2 gigs of ram....
its guna be funny in like 10 years when we start seein stuff like this, and the beaver case, and that sweet tie fighter. at peoples gerage sales for a couple o bucks. and well all be like, "oh dang, i remember those days... back when 64 bit processors were all the rage, and everyone used windows lol. we were such fools.... doom, te he"
Guys, just check out the construction of the case on YouTube here:

This is a relatively old project, but nice none-the-less.
I for one welcome our Robotic Phenom Overlords
**looks like it came out straight from robot wars lol
Oh the huge manatee, that thing is hideous.
One can only hope the next Mac Pro will learn from this (brightly) shining example of elegance and subtlety.
Sorry, but this doesn't look particularly good. Stuffing an in-dash LCD screen into a case and bolting on some external wings just makes it tacky. There are weird combinations of colors, design styles. It looks like someone polished the hell out of a turd.
Gross. Just like AMD processors!
I can't wait to play doom on this... thats if it can play doom.
When I click on the read link, it tells me I've been banned from that forum - I'd never even heard of it before...
As for 'there's no denying that it's packin' a nice set of internals', oh yes there is.
The 9900 is out-performed by the Q6600 which is slower and will almost certainly be cheaper when (if?) the 9900 becomes available.
The hardware is from AMD's test lab. fyi: 2 GB give tighter times.
I have heard of lipsticking a pig, but somebody call PETA some SOB drop a pig in a vat of the stuff.
Reminds me of a Boom Box (Big boxy portable radios with cassette players for you youngins)i saw at the flea Market back in the 8o's
I'm waiting for a 3.2Ghz Phenom.
go minnesota!
I see someone likes them some Skinny Puppy. Not sure I dig the green fans, though.
Go Bill!
i respect that you all have an opinion ... but most of you are dumb blind n00bs who have no respect for the ridiculously talented Bill Owen .....
put minor details aside and just think how hard it is to design and build a case of that quality and caliber ... and be commissioned to do so don't disrespect one of the worlds best Modders
