PosiMotion's G-Fi: another WiFi GPS accessory for the iPhone

Although we just saw the Nav N Go / Gomite prototype demonstrated yesterday, a company called PosiMotion claims that it has the "world's first wireless GPS" accessory for the iPhone. To prove it, they've launched a two-page website. Fishing for some of that iFund dough are we boys? Anyway, according to the site the G-Fi WiFi GPS receiver will support the iPhone and iPod touch and is expected to ship this summer. Really though, how much confidence will VCs have in an upstart still running on the ol' Cingular network?

smart guys but il wait till the 3G iPhone comes out to buy one. By then it should have a 1terabtye hardrive and a solar battery. And we will be in the year 2_11

I wish Ryan would've asked about bluetooth profiles instead of wasting it on the stupid SIM card question. That (better profile support) would solve a lot of common complaints (bluetooth sync, A2DP, bluetooth GPS, file transfer, etc)

Oh great, now we're going to see like 20 GPS solutions for the iPhone on the market.

Just wondering when someones going to get a seperate 3G card for the iPhone (either over WiFi or the dock) and get it to go without paying any extra monthly fees to ATT.

Currently, NO.
But that is the logical solution, not GPS over WiFi.
This is something that Apple would have to sanction for it to happen.
I'm sure the guys over at iFund could help $negotiate$ this for a third party looking to make a BT solution.

Quite off topic, sort of... but a thought just occured to me as I read this... I don't know a single person with an iPhone. I have gadget-geek friends who don't even have an iPhone. I know people w/ iPod touch, but not an iPhone.

Ok... so those are my friends... but I haven't seen ANYONE with an iPhone. No one at my job (we're talking 300+ people on just my floor) have an iPhone.

Friends and family of my friends and co-workers... no iPhone.

Even out on the street, in the mall, etc. Never seen an iPhone.

I have seen an iPhone out in the wild only twice so far: The first time was here at the local Apple Store on the DAY it was released and there was an insane line of people waiting for it it. The second time was at a Nas concert where some dude was trying to take pics with it.

For as much hype and popularity this phone gets... I find it odd that I don't see them more. Just a random thought.
