Announced in early February, both the
Silver Satin PS3 and
Xbox 360 Arcade are now on sale in Japan. The SS PS3 is a spec-for-spec equivalent of the existing black and white Japanese models. However, this is the first time the entry-level Xbox 360, already available outside of Nippon, makes an appearance on Japanese soil. Guess which one Japanese gamers are
more likely to buy? Right, the Wii.

The silver PS3 looks awful, and I own a PS3 myself.
ssuk @ Mar 7th 2008 6:28AM
I'd have a silver PS3 over a black PS3, but then again the white PS3 would best both of them. Oh well, opinions, opinions.
Whaleman @ Mar 7th 2008 6:33AM
While a silver PS3 supposedly would match the rest of my gear, I think I would go with a black one anyways... it looks more stylish. It's nice that Sony is giving people a choice though: Get a black one or move to Japan.
fred @ Mar 7th 2008 11:45PM
the silver ps3 is beautiful
EricTheRed @ May 12th 2008 2:47AM
Silver ps3 is newer than white ps3 which looks cool too. i'd go wit the silver one.
(the new mgs4 steel ps3 is okay too)
David W. @ Mar 7th 2008 1:51AM
how about a white ps3? so it matches with my other consoles...lol
Alex @ Mar 7th 2008 1:53AM
It is already out.
David W. @ Mar 7th 2008 1:54AM
ah...well we don't have it :( lol
Alex @ Mar 7th 2008 2:55AM
Ha, indeed... IF I were to buy a PS3 I'd totally want the white one.
IF... ha.
yui @ Mar 7th 2008 5:26AM
same here...
White PS3 also matches my white Bravia X, my white TV shelf, and my white wii. haha
the truth is, I got a black one since its launch....and I do love its embeded EE+GS...
ssuk @ Mar 7th 2008 6:31AM
You expect Sony to care about any region but Japan? I mean, they barely care about America. How do you think us Europeans feel? I really feel for the Aussies as well. =(
I LOVE THE CAPS LOCK KEY @ Mar 7th 2008 1:56AM
I could careless about the colour, bring back the Emotion Engine with reverse compatability. Then Sony you'll have yourself a new customer; I don't mind paying the extra $20-30 to get it.
Krish091 @ Mar 7th 2008 1:59AM
I like my black PS3. Any gadget shiny and black at the same time is gorgeous in my opinion. Well, if the design's nice anyhow.
Jaime Garza @ Mar 7th 2008 2:08AM
If only the PS3 Silver console came with the original Boomerang Controller... :p

"Guess which one Japanese gamers are more likely to buy? Right, the Wii."
It's funny, 'cause it's true.
rockstar @ Mar 7th 2008 2:41AM

lysernix @ Mar 7th 2008 2:51AM
note to microsoft: releasing arcade in japan does nothing for you. they already hate your console, giving them a *worse* one doesn't help.
Gun Barrier @ Mar 7th 2008 11:30AM
cool avatar.
hmm it depends on if they prefer cheap over functionality. we'll see in a month if a cheaper 360 pays off in japan. Hopefully it does! it would be interesting to play a halo match with an asian person.
John @ Mar 7th 2008 3:14AM
I like the look of the Sixaxis/DualShock 3 in silver. I don't, however, like it on the PS3.
batfastad @ Mar 7th 2008 8:18AM
Why don't these companies make consoles that have sizes and shapes similar to other AV gear so you can stack them?
Down @ Mar 7th 2008 8:47AM
The PS3 is too big for me to even consider buying it. Additionally, it is also too expensive and too boring.
Matt B @ Mar 7th 2008 9:13AM
Sooo Boring. I was bored with it for 3 hours straight last night.
Timmy @ Mar 7th 2008 9:09AM
Note to Microsoft:
We need a new version of the xbox360 for lanpartys and call it xbox360 Lanparty
Features:
1. No DVD - games will run off Full 360 as a server.
2. No hard drive - Lan unit players can use USB memory stick for saving game files
3. 2 network ports or wireless - 2RJ45 for daisy chaining units for the "lan"
4. Ultra Thin - big components are not used so size can be small.
5. Ultra Portable - easy to take to your friends house for an impromtu lan party.
6. Cheap at About 150.00 - making it easy for a person to buy a main unit for home play and secondary unit for travel.

"Sooo Boring. I was bored with it for 3 hours straight last night."
Lord of the Rings on Blu-ray, huh?
That or a 3-hour attempt at getting in a non-lagging game of Warhawk maybe?
I kid by the way... don't no fanboys get your g-strings twisted over my comments.
Matt B @ Mar 7th 2008 7:00PM
Actually, MLB 08: The Show.

I thought Microsoft had previously released various bundles of the Arcade/Core (non-hard drive) models in Japan?
