The silver PS3 looks awful, and I own a PS3 myself.
I'd have a silver PS3 over a black PS3, but then again the white PS3 would best both of them. Oh well, opinions, opinions.
While a silver PS3 supposedly would match the rest of my gear, I think I would go with a black one anyways... it looks more stylish. It's nice that Sony is giving people a choice though: Get a black one or move to Japan.

Silver ps3 is newer than white ps3 which looks cool too. i'd go wit the silver one.(the new mgs4 steel ps3 is okay too)
