USB TiltStick opens up new world of accelerometer projects
It's not like the modding community at large hasn't shoved accelerometers within vehicles before, but conjuring up projects that utilize acceleration sensing just got a whole lot easier thanks to the USB TiltStick. Reportedly, the minuscule device features a two axis acceleration sensor and emulates a USB joystick in order to play nice with any USB-equipped host. In particular, a standard PC or Nokia's N810 makes for the perfect comrade, and what you do from there is really only limited by your imagination. Granted, only the DIY veterans in attendance should give this one any serious consideration, but feel free to jump on through the break to catch it interfacing with N810.

Mention of how this means the end for the iPhone in 5... 4... 3... 2... 1...
slyd3z @ Mar 10th 2008 9:11AM
*gasp* Is that the sound of a nail being driven into the iPhone's coffin?
Hmm, guess not...
ethana2 @ Mar 10th 2008 2:01PM
You with the nail gun: just aim for the head. Burying apple products alive isn't as easy as it once was.

Awesome, I want one of these for my OQO.
"a standard PC": Im having amusing visions of someone struggling to hold their monolithic desktop pc like a giant gamepad to play a game.

USB to Micro USB it, stick it in a SIXAXIS and you'll get TWELVAXIS baby.

i count 10. up,down, left, right, forward, back, plus the forward, back, left, right that the stick would offer? did i miss any?
a ham sandwich @ Mar 10th 2008 10:44AM
err technically, i guess the stick would offer left, right,up,down and not forward and back. but, then again, frame of reference renders that technicality irrelevant.

they should put that mac virus built into this so now PC and other mobile devices can have their screen items collapse on them... someone will at least eventually put this into a Eee PC.
ssuk @ Mar 10th 2008 1:40PM
Genius, give this man money now. And do what he said, I would pay good money for it.
ethana2 @ Mar 10th 2008 2:04PM
Viruses are only possible because of a few key security mistakes. XP makes all of them. Vista only makes like two. Viruses aren't normal, nor inevitable, nor guaranteed to have the possibility of being effective, they just want you to think that.
~another ubuntu user.

Can you use it in other model of nokia besides n810

ethana2 @ Mar 10th 2008 2:04PM
Can you use it in ____
Does it have USB ports?
yes.
supermeerkat @ Mar 10th 2008 10:24AM
My god! A tilt control device! Am I in the future?
ethana2 @ Mar 10th 2008 2:06PM
The beginning of the future will be market by WINE 1.0.
..we're close though.
ethana2 @ Mar 10th 2008 2:10PM
...my typos confuse qwerty users. Sorry, I was typing too fast to catch that and didn't take long enough to look over it before posting.
...I'll elaborate: ubuntu is better /now/, but market share can't go anywhere serious until application compatibility is nearly complete. We have a lot of winapi and directx functions to implement before that is the case. ...Adobe is evidently considering porting lightroom though, which is awesome, and WINE runs CS2.. I love google...
ethana2 @ Mar 10th 2008 2:13PM
Oh sorry, got off topic.. what I mean to say is, "Am I in the future?" is a question I find myself asking all the time, and the answer, for me, is yes. --But I do a lot of alpha and beta testing.

Watching this makes me wonder why so many people are trying tilt control. It sounds cool, until you realize that tilting your screen all the time makes it hard to read. Better to use a separate gadget like a Wiimote (which can be made to work with the N810 anyway).
kevin_ho @ Mar 10th 2008 10:52AM
Can it play quake?
jas0nuk @ Mar 10th 2008 11:34AM
But.. WILL IT BLEND?
mr nico @ Mar 10th 2008 1:11PM
Screw Quack, will it work for DOOM?
ethana2 @ Mar 10th 2008 2:05PM
Actually the blender community could make good use of this thing.
Ooooh, lookit suzanne; she's dizzy!
