HTC Advantage X7510 now up for pre-order
HTC still hasn't gotten official with the exact price or release date for its HTC Advantage X7510 handheld, but that hasn't stopped a number of retailers from putting the device up for pre-order, and at quite a range of prices to boot. As Pocketables points out, UK retailers Clove Technology and eXpansys each have the X7510 up for £595 and £700, respectively, although neither are making any promises about when it'll ship. US retailers are also offering the device at similarly varied prices, ranging from $800 at GearTrade to $1,300 at Smart Mobile Gadgets and On The Go Solutions (Google Product Search even turns one retailer by the name of PrestoMart listing it at $550, although that link unsurprisingly goes to a blank product page). For its part, Pocketables speculates that the $800 price tag is closest to the official one (which probably isn't too far off base), but we'll just have to wait for HTC to give us the final word on that.

why? Will anyone buy this at that price, with Atom and Isaiah ramping production up? Yesterday's tech at tomorrow's prices.
It may be portable and useful to some, but no way is it $800 useful.
the box it is enclosed in should have on the side "Video Drivers not included"
FIRST!
not fucking likely
FAIL!
@First Guy
I thumbed you down instinctively, but in retrospect, I think that you are probably a genius.
@Wolfticket
When I initially came upon First Guy, I stopped and thought for a minute. Then I shot him a quick and dirty THUMBS UP. Way up.
Funny, First Guy.
This is the second page I've seen you FAIL in the span of a day. I'm sure there are Many, many more examples of FAIL if I read the archives.
EPIC FAIL.
Well, another example of failure would be your hackneyed overuse of weak internet slang cliches.
Scale it up a bit and it would be a pretty sweet eee sized tablet pc design, esp. if the price was right. As it is, it's pretty much a niche within another niche.
a niche niche ?
Having used the earlier model, I can confirm this is a totally impractical form factor. Set back full stroke keyboards, like that on the ASUS EEE PC make a huge difference. Else, best to get a very small phone and a regular or compact laptop.

battery life is still better than any eee pc and it has inbuilt gps and size and weight still smaller.
I guess this is what people pay a (sizeable) premium for. Slightly different set of needs/uses, really.
Although a significant ammount of overlap for sure.
I'm still loving my HTC advantage 7501, gps, 5inch screen, 3g works great cept for the video drivers which suck big time
No way is that worth $800. My EEE PC is half the price and comes with the correct video drivers and runs Windows XP! I think I'll pass HTC.
JAmerican
just how many of HTC's products don't have the correct video drivers? I keep hearing about this...
Seems really odd.
Actually, it is just people being snarky when they falsely claim the Advantage doesn't have the correct video drivers. The problem is with the HTC devices using Qualcom chips. That does not include the Advantage.
Actually, many of the HTC Advantage models do not have the proper video drivers. Dopod customers seem to have them more often than HTC customers. I know my unit and at least several other people's units do not have the video drivers in question.
Lloyd, please do not make untrue and unverified statements that might convince someone to spend their money on a device that may not perform as expected. I can only imagine that you saw a post in a thread at a BBS that claimed the video drivers were present, then ignored all other claims of unexpected, poor performance. Perhaps, a better way to make your statement would have been "Some users have verified the existence of the video drivers in question, but others have been unable to verify their existence and have noticed unusually poor performance from their unit."
Now I go'a be goin' and listenin' myself some o' dat Liter o' Tears theme to do me some 'memberin'.
No thank you ill take an EEE pc over this POS any day.
It looks very nice to me :>
I was going to purchase this right out but now I'm waiting to compare it to the HP UMPC first.
If I could estimate what it 'should' be worth, I wouldn't say anything above $500.
I agree that HTC is overpricing this one.
3G , GPS, 12 meg, did i mention 3G, plus you can use it as a modem, bluetooth, 5 inch screen or hook up to monitor, did i mention 3G
pffft How many pounds?.. crazy. gigabyte m528 will be 700 euro , same screen , gps hsdpa etc , windows xp.. better keyboard ..
Whenever I am at a show, or out and about using my 7501 camera function, people are impressed by this magnificent brick. PDA/Phone/GPS/Camera (ok, camera it's not great but good enough for work purposes..)
Sooner or later there will be a 1.0" 32 and 64gb SSD's that can be retrofitted. Only thing lacking is video performance.
So why would anyone get a $800 Pocket PC? It doesn't even run Windows or Linux.
Read up on the Advantage. It runs both Windows Mobile AND Windows Vista.
That's kind of like asking why someone would buy a Sony UX.
Of the HTC can actually make a phone call, the Sony UX and Asus Eee can't.
What's your number? I'll call you from my Eee via Skype right now. I hope your Advantage has video though, because the Eee does.
Just saying your statement is false. I call people via my Eee all the time, landlines, or not.
The Advantage does NOT run Vista or XP. That's the Shift, which is twice as expensive. You HTC fanboys are amusing.
Yeesh...and people thought the Palm Foleo was a doomed product. With the Asus EeePC out now, and all its clones, this thing has zero shot at selling enough for HTC to recoup its dev costs, let alone make much profit. A for effort, D for timing.
strange typo theyd let slide on the official page.
"Highlights
16MB of internal flash memory to hold more files than before"
Seems like a real cool gadget. Looks cool too, just needs to be able actually work on the internet with windows, ect... T

Why are you guys keep comparing this to the EEE PC? Is the EEE PC a phone? I don't think so!
Eee PC + Nokia N95 = Approaching the cost of this monstrosity.
WHAT!?!? No 3g Data?!?! What is the state of the art coming too? Fiber optic adaptive proccessing smartphones with 100kbps data connections?? I am still unsatisfied with evdo...I am going to throw up now. :-o
Obviously, this is the "wrong" form factor for lots of folks, too big for a phone too small and expensive compared to the eeepc. A few (me) find it perfect. This thing will provide a much better web experience than any phone and is more portable than a laptop.
How will it provide better web experience than a phone? It still runs shitty old Internet Explorer, which I have to suffer through on my HTC Touch.
It will run Opera... and it has 4x the screen of any phone.
Hmmm I wouldn't mind buying this. I dunno why everyone would rather to carry a lot of gadgets rather than one working thing. I have compared this HTC to EeePC and it is much much smaller, almost half the size and much lighter. As for the price, well, the $800 might have the 16GB memory which is a lot for a device like this!
It is not sold as an entertainment centre, so I wouldn't worry as much about the videos.
It makes phone calls like a cell phone, meaning I don't have to connect it to any wifi, open the skype window etc. I don't even have to take it out of my handbag, I can just voice call from my bluetooth earphone. And I wrote a lot of articles on the job, so I prefer this to my SE P990i because of the keyboard.
I guess it's really about what you want to use it for.
