Chinese LionKing800 cellphone claims 1-year standby
We have no way to confirm the claim, nevertheless the LionKing800 boasts a remarkable 365 days standby or 3-5 days talk. The source of that power is a 16,800mAh lithium battery -- that's about 10x the juice of a standard cellphone battery. Take that Philips! As to the rest of the specs, the GSM900 / DCS1800 dual-SIM phone costs $145 and packs a 3.5-inch, 320 x 240 pixel display, 256MB of microSD memory, Bluetooth 2.0, and a pair of rear and front-facing cameras into a 120 x 65 x 20-mm shell. wtf!? how small is that battery?! 16800 mAh? no way!!!
mike @ Mar 13th 2008 5:59AM
It is 16800 mAh. But the initial charging lasts 10 years :)
Secret Squirrel @ Mar 13th 2008 4:57PM
Yeah but i'm sure realworld estimates only come out to a mere 182.5 days of battery life ;)
Boostjunkie @ Mar 13th 2008 10:07AM
Plus, if it's anything like the Chinese knockoff ebay batteries I've had lately it will only work for a few weeks before it swells and pops the back off the phone. Can you imagine the explosion this battery is going to cause.
LondonConsultant @ Mar 13th 2008 10:35AM
I'm going to take the battery out of one of these phones - and run my Tesla Roadster on it...
tutut @ Mar 13th 2008 5:38PM
@ Boostjunkie
This is what you wrote : " like the Chinese knockoff ebay batteries I've had lately it will only work for a few weeks before it swells and pops the back off the phone. "
This is what I ask : Why are you still alive ?
Ron @ Mar 13th 2008 8:21PM
Imagine what a mess it would be if this battery decides to have a little fun and "explode"
MPman @ Mar 14th 2008 4:26AM
Actually, in traditional chinese culture, cheating and dishonesty is considered a virtue.
--quote on--
the Chinese are “cunning and dishonest, and have a great dislike to Europeans;” Arabians “subsist in a great measure by plunder;” Pictures of All Nations, with Simple Descriptions. London: Darton and Clark, n.d. [1840s].

@PMman
and many American academics and such were still justifying slavery in the 1840's also. Maybe reflections on race from that period aren't exactly reliable sources of objective information?
Totalfixation @ Mar 13th 2008 5:13AM
This is so hard to believe especially coming from a Chinese company.
wazzup @ Mar 13th 2008 5:18AM
Agreed, i mean seriously, next they'll tell us they have a 1mm cubed nuclear micropile that can run for 2000 years ... i mean, really ... :/
ray @ Mar 13th 2008 6:48AM
why? as the second country who sent mankind out to the space?
w @ Mar 13th 2008 7:30AM
but they invented the hiphone!

Faar @ Mar 13th 2008 8:05AM
China second country in space? You mean, second country after RUSSIA? That'd be extraordinary news to, well, pretty much everybody on planet earth. Except you then Ray, I guess.
Yes, it's true. America wasn't the first at everything ever conceived, despite popular opinion to the contrary. Yuri Gagarin was the first man in space, did it in the early 1960s, and though you probably weren't even born then doesn't change that it did happen. Btw, I wasn't born then either, but at least I got myself a bit of education. :P
Wwhat @ Mar 13th 2008 12:51PM
I recently heard about an invention that would tenfold the capacity, so this could be true, and a case of industrial espionage? perhaps they found it while hacking into yet another 'secure' american mainframe :)
I'd wait for a few months before getting it to see if the thing is stable though.

"The manned space program began in 1968, and China became the third country to put a human in space in 2003." wikipedia
Flo @ Mar 14th 2008 1:07AM
Ray - it's the third country and USA is the second. Russia (URSS on that time) was the first.. just fyi.

Why isn't this a "Keepin' it real fake"? It looks like a N95.
pdexter @ Mar 13th 2008 5:41AM
Looks a bit of N95, but i'm more amazed with that button cluster on the front....must be great.
Pdexter @ Mar 13th 2008 6:22AM
Havent really looked closer these things so what OS are they using? Looks a bit of Symbian, but i would think it's not.
CUBSWILLWIN @ Mar 13th 2008 7:35AM
It's probably a pirated version of Symbian just like china's pirated copies of winmo and etc.
Saad Rabia @ Mar 13th 2008 5:23AM
If this was true, then one of my dreams has just become true and finally some electronic handheld device company is offering a real deal batter life time, which takes us closer to the dream of having a device that will need one charge every year with full use! :)
Now, only if Microsoft, Apple, NOKIA, Samsung, Sony, etc would pay little bit more on research and bring us battery performance just like in this LionKing800.
P.S: I still can't take the name "LionKing800" serious! Why is that?
wout @ Mar 13th 2008 6:04AM
before bashing real companies, let's find out if this is true or not. And if it doesn't blow up in your pocket.
Saad Rabia @ Mar 13th 2008 6:09AM
Wout, Reality is the part of imagination that we believe in.
LordFarkward @ Mar 13th 2008 6:25AM
don't mind wout, he took the blue pill
at least that's what both evangeline lilly and kristin kreuk told me in bed last night. they say i'm smart and brave cuz i took the red one.
rokerovakero @ Mar 13th 2008 5:23AM
1 year? sure... IN THE HIMALAYAS!
Saad Rabia @ Mar 13th 2008 5:35AM
Pardon me, but, are you stating this as a fact or a joke?
LLKrisJ @ Mar 13th 2008 5:52AM
You look like Super Mario!!
Matt @ Mar 13th 2008 6:00AM
Looks like *regular* Mario to me ;)
Saad Rabia @ Mar 13th 2008 6:01AM
Silly you LLKrisJ, this is Super Mario after a Jeremy-look operation; Don't believe me, Google it!
Filip @ Mar 13th 2008 5:28AM
How long does it take to charge the battery, then? Two years? :D
Cedric @ Mar 13th 2008 5:32PM
Two years PLUS your dog dies and your kid gets lead poisoning.
I keed, I keed. It's made of those jellies that don't dissolve.
Paul @ Mar 13th 2008 5:32AM
How long will it take to charge this thing???
wazzup @ Mar 13th 2008 5:40AM
Lithium ion should normally be charged at 1C, which means a HUGE charger for 1 hour (plus about 20 minutes for the last bit of charge at steadily less than 1C). Shouldn't make much difference to the charge time compared to a normal sized lithium ion/poly, unless they don't have a charger that can produce this much in a small enough form factor to be practical. But if they really can make this battery, then the charger must be the least of the problems they've had to over-come.
AlexHD @ Mar 13th 2008 5:32AM
Woah I just can't WAIT to be King!
pscs @ Mar 13th 2008 4:01PM
you've got to be the lion first.
Dave @ Mar 13th 2008 5:33AM
The name for a device with that much energy in that small a volume is a "hand grenade"
Jack @ Mar 13th 2008 6:18AM
agreed, if you see this, stay the fuck away
John @ Mar 13th 2008 2:22PM
Either that or it gives you cancer 10x faster than a traditional cell phone
Blackster @ Mar 13th 2008 5:34AM
more power for the bigger boom i guess ^^
stevee @ Mar 13th 2008 5:48AM
hehe how long does it take to charge :) btw the price and the specs are nice
Atanas Boev @ Mar 13th 2008 5:51AM
My roommate in the dormitory left his phone in his room, locked the door and left for a holiday. The alarm sounds endlessly, starting 7:30AM. I really hope his battery wont last one freaking year...
Precision @ Mar 13th 2008 7:00AM
have you considered the possibilty that he might have it hooked up to its charger xD
thats possibly the reason he forgot the phone to begin with :p
enjoy ;)
Bob @ Mar 13th 2008 8:47AM
Wow... When I leave my phone somewhere, I instantly realize it, I guess it's because I use it so much, but you would think your roommate would realize he left it as soon as he got on the road...
DarkLightConnection Unbanned @ Mar 13th 2008 5:55AM
It would be quite a boom if one of these exploded..
(And I'm confident one of these will.. They're made in China)
Blackster @ Mar 13th 2008 5:59AM
but you know that almost all batteries are made there? ;)
technophobe @ Mar 13th 2008 6:15AM
Almost everything is made in China, that is not a reason fro doubting it. The fact that it is designed/developed by an obscure Chinese company should be the problem.
DarkLightConnection Unbanned @ Mar 13th 2008 6:32AM
Yes I know
Let me rephrase that:
(And I'm confident one of these will.. They're proudly designed and made in China)
Poom @ Mar 13th 2008 6:03AM
That's very impressive. Engadget, that's more like 15x rather than 10x. -_-" Hell, even 15x is an understatement.
One thing makes me wonder though, how long does it take to charge?
slackie @ Mar 13th 2008 6:15AM
Nokia n95?
