Keepin' it real fake, part CXIV: the N95 FM radio... from Asaki
It's just what you've been waiting for -- a Nokia N95 running Windows Mobile. It looks like the rumors were true after all! What's that? This is not a real phone? It's just an FM radio with a sticker on the screen? Oh bother. Yes folks, thanks to eagle-eyed tipster Eric, you're looking at the next evolution in gadgetry -- the Asaki N95 FM radio. We're not sure what the going price for this is, but we'd imagine slightly less than $779, though the real N95 doesn't come with those totally pimped-out headphones, does it?

Auto scan? Is that like seek? What a feature.
mike @ Mar 13th 2008 8:03PM
seeing as how the display is a sticker, it may be damn hard to tune it manually...
ScareyJ @ Mar 13th 2008 9:12PM
Should read "Auto Scam"

Totally craptacular.

Usually given away as gimmicks, at stuff like trade shows (I have one I got free courtesy of Bloomberg) these small radios due to cost only have one potentiometer for controlling volume/poweroff, and one single button which changes the station. Due to the lack of a display, pressing the button just scans till the next station it can find.
The board inside is tiny, about the size of your thumb, and my unit's casing was not much more than two fingers wide. Works fine as a simple radio, but I found no use for it, as I don't listen to radio much; and the button cell battery in there eventually died and a replacement cost more than I was willing to pay. I'm pretty sure this thing is just one of those same generic boards stuffed into a bigger case.

Looks like Asaki is partying like it's Thursday, October 26 2006, and isn't planning to stop any time soon.

I have the same problem. Engadget doesn't care. Nobody cares.

Me too. I'm locked out from editing my avatar or changing my password. Looks like it's going to be with my hand-drawn dragon as an avatar forever! Hope they fix this.
James @ Mar 14th 2008 1:53AM
Same problem here.
Archmaester @ Mar 14th 2008 2:40PM
think this is temporary?
Bani-Banan @ Mar 13th 2008 7:56PM
I think I saw a Nokia n95 clone on youtube a couple of days ago.
It was a bit thicker, slower processor, lower resolution, less ram, less memory.
But, it has two, yes, two sim-slots.
- Edit: After a little research: It only costs $100 + shipping.
Worth it:)

I bet that Windows logo isn't licensed.
chickenator @ Mar 13th 2008 8:09PM

Hmm. Could be a good decoy. Kinda like carrying a fake wallet with a few dollars in it like some people do in the city.
But, the mugger would probably be pissed to get this though that he'd hurt out of spite.
lakiolen @ Mar 13th 2008 9:40PM
And it's even got Wireless Reception. I'm so in.
Marcham89 @ Mar 13th 2008 9:43PM
I want one! lol

I took this picture in Bangkok -- it was for sale for 100BHT (about $3) at the local 7-11. You see these amazing futuristic phones everywhere out there.
CP @ Mar 13th 2008 10:07PM
it's always charging, and always connected to activesync. perfect!
dvdivx @ Mar 13th 2008 10:36PM
I think it would have it's uses. If you get robbed of your "cell phone" you would just laugh. I doubt a thief is going to check to see if it's real unless these become popular.
palaboi14 @ Mar 13th 2008 10:42PM
lol..
we have lots of this at black markets ( i dont even think it's politically correct to call them "black Markets" since they're almost everywhere) and they cost barely less than $5, those are nothing but crappy plastics with an FM thingy inside.
It's like a thing for kiddies and the mentally challenged freaks! hehehe
L D @ Mar 23rd 2008 1:15AM
soon a N96 torch will be released!....eh?
Valgas @ Mar 14th 2008 2:40AM
Man. Why do I get really pissed off when I see one of these ripoffs... Is it appropriate to just want to smack the person who sells these?
mdkusn @ Mar 14th 2008 8:02AM
This has WIRELESS FM radio!
Dave @ Mar 14th 2008 11:31AM
This reminds me of an old AM/FM radio I had in the 80s that featured a facade that resembled a door of a micro-cassette recorder. Even looked like it had a tape in there, too.
It fooled nobody but damn, did it look cool--and way better than this thing.
Lemmiwinks (SSBBFC: 0903-2436-0891) @ Mar 14th 2008 5:53PM
Upon closer inspection of the picture, I think it actually says "9.5" and not "95" on the packaging.
