Ultra SpaceStation 6 offers up 12GB flash drive six pack
Apparently catering to the few folks out there that feel they have too few USB flash drives, Ultra Products recently let loose this so-called SpaceStation 6, which comes with no less than six tiny thumb drives that can be neatly concealed and used as the mood strikes. Of course, there's no hub action going on here -- which would be convenient -- and the slots likely won't play nice with your current stash of flash drives. If you're still interested, however, you can grab either a 12GB version (consisting of six 2GB drives) or a 6GB version (with six 1GB drives) right now for $90 or $60, respectively.

Cool..
Now if you could set up them in JBOD, then maybe we're talking. Maybe.
A HUGE second to that!
more like a raid 0 so you can get the performance boost
This is a pretty cool. Hopefully someone can figure out a way to combine the drives in a RAID-sort of configuration to make them a few entities.
i'm afraid i don't see the point...i can go buy two 8gb drives for the price of the 6gb system...
I have one of these. It's call a "USB hub".
Why don't you just try to read the article first and post afterwards?
That would keep you away from any embarrassments since you could display at least signs of understanding. Like not claiming simple things that have been explicitly explained contrarily before.
OK, im stupid myself. It is a hub.
@Dirk, stupid twice over. "There is no hub action going on here". It is just a dumb container with six minimal profile USB drives slotted in. Okay for somebody who wants to toss them around like candy, but with 1GB drives worth around $5 - half this price - the big question is why.
I would rather see a maxi hub that can be used for all the 16MB and other old CF/SD and other cards I have lying around, to turn them into a single drive of at least, oh 1GB...
The only possible use for this would be a huge xtian family with multiple mobile computers and one or two central desktops at home. I weep over the fact that there are enough of those to actually turn a profit off this device. /cry
Apparently you've never had someone discover your porn stash when you let them borrow your flash drive.
haha...i had it even worse, when i let the guy borrow my drive, and he used it to store HIS porn
so, that's basically 6 really small flash drives with 1 quite small usb hub.
That's what I said!
It's just a hub!
TigerDirect has been selling this thing for a few weeks now. Old News.
BOO!
Seems like someone should create a security solution in raid where all drives have to be connected for a program or file to be unencrypted...Defcon anyone?
EPIC FAIL, MORE EPIC THAN THE HALO TRILOGY.
Hahaha
POTM
Ugly, but I'd still get it
Typo much? this is not a DRIVE HUB, its just a friggin card with 6 slots to hold 6 drives...damn there isnt even a usb to plug this into anything
Yeah come on engadget. Any description you search for says it's just a way to conveniently store 6 drives in your wallet.
I thought about using a gumstix board to try to make something like this as a RAID for USB based storage devices.
Then I realized it was a pointless waist of time.
once again comment system attaches to wrong post

Great. Spelling mistake and a double post. Fun. :-)
Some sort of RAID array would be cool
You could give 6 people one drive each and the data could only be read when it was all brought back together
Kind of like a secret geeky club
now i would buy that
You could do that with a Software RAID, like in OS X.
Similar to people RAIDing several Floppy Discs, Zip Disks, or iPods together.
TEG
Hell, I think you could make an alright movie about that. As long as the drive has the meaning of life stored on it and the 6 mini-drives are spread throughout the universe...
@ Reader
I think thats the plot for National Treasure 3
@Sam
Its also a Star Trek TNG episode and probably an episode of every Sci-Fi show ever
No its transformers 2.
seems pretty useless to me
So it basically takes a USB drive, splits it into 6 different drives, and adds 20 dollars or so to the price? I don't get it. No thank you.
IT IS NOT A HUB. IT ONLY HOLDS THE SIX DRIVES.
he's right.. i dont see any way of plugging that into a computer?
If you check the Ultra website (http://www.ultraproducts.com/product_details.php?cPath=90&pPath=691&productID=691), you'll see that it is only a hub. The quoted article is also wrong. Seems the authors mis-read the writer's desire for it to be a hub (http://www.ohgizmo.com/2008/03/13/ultra-spacestation-packs-6-usb-flash-drives-into-compact-package/).
I'm sorry, but what is the point of this?? It's basically just 6 USB flash drives in a Hub, right?
Does nobody else have a problem with all six drives looking exactly the same? How do tell which is which when they are loaded up with (what I would imagine is different) stuff?
I think you people are missing the point. When faced with a formidable adversary, you need considerable firepower. In standard mode, the USS6 (Ultra SpaceStation) is not too impressive. But you need only to simply enter the command to deploy the satellite USB drives in various configurations, multiplying your effective tactical ability.
Or not. Yeah, it only wishes it could be as cool as the Vic Viper.
When will somebody build a hub like this with an onboard raid chip that works with different speed flash drives, so we can plug in a bunch of cheap usb flash drives and have ultra-fast, cheap, usb raid storage!?!
it's not even a hub, how can you do RAID? 6 USB ports?
and there is a thing called "folder" to help you organize files. you don't need 6 flash drives to do this. Imaging you only have 2 or 3 USB ports on your computer, you can't even access all your files at the same time. accessing different folders is much faster and easier. Unless you have like a 10-port usb hub, this is just wasting money.
I've been looking for something like this that holds SD cards. Something ultra thin for the wallet, that holds 4-6 SD cards. Anyone know of a product like that?

I actually find this pretty cool. Seems like a good way to store multiple flash drives, each with their own purposes, in a small, organized space. And they come with labels to clearly mark what each one's for. I kind of like it.
I actually would like one separating files for work and personal use
What caught my eye from that website is that it says it's vista memory boost ready or something.
Hmm maybe fill out every USB slot that I have and see if that doesn't create chaos...
It's be cooler if you could plus this card thing into your computer as well to have nice big 12GB card. Or even better allow them to snap together for some terabyte fun.
