WWDC 2008 kicks off June 9th for Mac, iPhone devs
Mark your calendars, Apple fans -- WWDC officially kicks off June 9th this year (running until the 13th). Expect Mac, iPhone, and IT tracks for your varied Apple platform development needs. No official word yet as to whether El Jobso will be taking the stage at this WWDC, but it certainly wouldn't be an Apple event without him.

iH8Engadget @ Mar 13th 2008 10:54PM
Dude! There's ALWAYS clues in the banners, or invites, or whatever it is that apple uses to advertise their event. Like remember, before MacWorld '08, the banner read "There's something in the air." Well, it was the macbook air.
And back a while back, i remember one ad reading "showtime" well something with movies came out on iTunes.
There's always clues in those ads. And here, we see 2 golden gate bridges, and if you look closely, if you see the cars, their blurred as if moving quickly. I wanna say the 2 bridges represents II as in iPhone II. (aka second gen) and the cars represent 3G (since their obviously blazing over the bridge)
That's gotta be it!
JAmerican @ Mar 14th 2008 2:31AM
If you ask me, I'd say the bridges represent MULTITASKING for developers or it should.

uh...it says "everything mac, everything iphone"...it shows a landmark bridge x2, and says it's a landmark event in more ways than one...i don't think it's so subliminal- i think it's just about the mac and iphone, well i guess everything mac and iphone.
Cahlito @ Mar 13th 2008 4:27PM
are they going to have new macbooks anytime soon?
bob @ Mar 13th 2008 4:31PM
er, like about 2 weeks ago? :s
phanbouy @ Mar 13th 2008 4:32PM
hi bob. there's a non-pro version of the macbook pro. it's called "macbook". it's less I R Soo Expensive
Cahlito @ Mar 13th 2008 4:39PM
i meant like a real update...
pundit @ Mar 13th 2008 6:44PM
Phanbuoy, you surprise me. Usually you're up on everything in the Apple world. The "non-pro" version of the MacBook Pro was updated 2 weeks ago. It now sports a Penryn based processor running up to 2.4GHz with a 3MB cache, the same as the basic Pro model. It also sports a bigger hard drive than the first Pro model, but a crappier graphics card (though better than before) and a smaller screen and other little things.
A real re-design though? Wait 'til June, when the rumour mill says they'll bump up to a true 45nm processor, the Nehelam, which unlike the Penryn will ship on a smaller board. That's what you're likely waiting for, but if you want a decent bump, go to the website.

WWDC =? WWJD =/= WWF?
ok... WTF?
phanbouy @ Mar 13th 2008 4:48PM
fun with acronyms phil. glad to see ya playin' along ;p
ryan10ad @ Mar 13th 2008 4:53PM
WWDC without El Jobso is like Engadget without Ryan Block. Yes it works but it's so much better with him
a ham sandwich @ Mar 13th 2008 4:54PM
o god 3g iphone. i mean, they better.
Zak @ Mar 13th 2008 6:23PM
WWDC is not a hardware show. It's a developer's conference.
a ham sandwich @ Mar 13th 2008 6:37PM
@zak
puleez. yes. it is a dev conference. but seriously. they've NEVER announced any new hardware there?
Zak @ Mar 13th 2008 6:54PM
They didn't do hardware announcements until 2003-2006 (in 2005 they just announced the transition from PPC to Intel - no computers), and last year they stopped again. Probably because they didn't want to keep announcing hardware at a developer's conference.
Mike @ Mar 13th 2008 7:20PM
I am in no way posing as an expert in this field but:
When else would they announce it this year?
And ya know, 3G DOES have an effect on development...
Maybe a stretch?
Zak @ Mar 13th 2008 7:35PM
They could pretty much announce it any time they want to. They've announced something almost every Tuesday since the first week of January. They announced the new Mac Pros a week before MWSF. I mean they've already announced that 3G will be coming to the iPhone so there's no need to announce it at an event.
Phil Perman @ Mar 13th 2008 5:04PM
Slightly off topic, but would I be right in thinking that this is the first Thursday this year that Apple haven't announced something? Unless announcing the date for WWDC is big enough to count
helloUser @ Mar 13th 2008 5:09PM
Where is my Geforce 8800 GT for my first generation Mac Pro? Its been months since Spin Doctor Jobs has known about the matter and has done nothing about it.
Zak @ Mar 13th 2008 6:26PM
Yes, I'm sure it's all Steve Jobs' fault. Just ignore the fact that nVidia was the one who made the public announcement that they were working on a solution to this problem.
Husar @ Mar 14th 2008 12:38AM
Yeah, im more hoping for a nvidia 9800m, as it should be released well b4 june, a pissibly upgrade of processor to a quad core (if it will be released ona mobile platform) and a significant decrease in cost to upgrade to 4gb ram, as the current $500 is absurd.
nikhil @ Mar 13th 2008 5:12PM
does that mean dat they r goin to launch new macbook and macbook pro`s
phanbouy @ Mar 13th 2008 5:16PM
you must be ^this tall^ to post on engadget
w00t @ Mar 13th 2008 5:26PM
No that won't help then it'll get flooded with posts from tall idiots!
How about a mandatory IQ test? :D
Alfredo H @ Mar 13th 2008 5:29PM
After all the lawsuits, the iphone locks, the mac air with no drive, the poor updates on the other mac's, well, i'm starting to feel less atracted to the the mac world, sorry mac lovers, but there is not enough inthere for me anymore, do you feel the same???
phanbouy @ Mar 13th 2008 5:43PM
sorta. i could give two shits about the lawsuits though. could care less about the Air; not my niche. my 2-yr-old MBP works like a charm still. wait a minute...... i see what you're doing there!
Big John @ Mar 13th 2008 6:09PM
Set wallets to save, folks!
Zak @ Mar 13th 2008 6:27PM
developer conference = no hardware announcements.
pundit @ Mar 13th 2008 6:50PM
Besides, well let's see: Mac Pro in 2006 and PowerMac G5 2003, as well as a few other minor things. Intel based Macs were also revealed there in 2005.
Zak @ Mar 13th 2008 6:56PM
... and nothing last year. That was intentional, because Apple isn't doing hardware announcements at WWDC. They never did it before 2003 either. And in 2005 they announced they were transitioning from PPC to Intel - they didn't announce any computers.
Big John @ Mar 13th 2008 7:54PM
Who said anything about hardware?
Fenway Beer Man @ Mar 13th 2008 6:53PM
what's with the two golden gates? is it supposed to be symbolic of something? Or did the stoner marketing firm open up photoshop and say "you know what would be F'n cool man!?!? What if their were TWO golden gate bridges. But here's the trippy part. THEY'RE RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER OMGWTF. WHOOOA MAN, I just blew my own mind. I'm so high right now."
Dull @ Mar 13th 2008 7:19PM
Ohh good. Thanks for noticing the two bridges. I didn't think any of these nerds saw that. Thought I was trippin, again.
The only thing I can think of is that may-be the iPhone is going dual-boot.
http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/13/iphone-dual-boot-solution-surfaces-not-for-the-faint-of-heart/
John @ Mar 13th 2008 8:28PM
Or maybe firmware 2.0 /facepalm
erik.louis @ Mar 13th 2008 8:58PM
Its because they can now talk about developing programs for both os x and the iphone at WWDC
Callum Alden @ Mar 14th 2008 1:21PM
two platforms... two delivery systems something like that: dev. your apps for the Mac AND for the iPhone. is what they could be saying here.
WWDC is not a hardware show. so the earlier comment relating two bridges to an iPhone Mk. II is right off, if you ask me. as for the marketing firm getting high and messing around with photoshop. hmm, marketing that isn't. its a teaser -and probably comes straight from the top it doesn't say enough --doesn't relate to a larger audience than devs.. OR its classic RDF thang. i mean, there are two bridges, aren't they? no, i'm sure they are... there are TWO bridges. :D
Matt @ Mar 13th 2008 7:00PM
a landmark event... "in more ways than one"? Perhaps it's just wishful thinking on my part, but I think that is about a clear indication we are going to get from Apple that a new and improved 3g iPhone is coming. They will probably announce it at the developer's conference, and then it will be ready for purchase a couple of months later.
paulwlee @ Mar 13th 2008 7:07PM
Look at the whole poster. The conference will be about developing for the Mac AND the iPhone. Hence more ways than one. (Two.) Hence the two bridges. No need to read way more into this than necessary.
Matt @ Mar 13th 2008 7:31PM
I know, I saw that, but I can still be optimistic. We know a new phone is coming, we just don't know when. But the president of AT&T told us this year. so I'm holding out hope.
cromas @ Mar 13th 2008 9:24PM
WRONG! Obviously they are going to be adding Steve Jobs' face into Mount Rushmore.
...followed by a conspiracy theory movie starring Nicholas Cage.

Neil @ Mar 13th 2008 7:31PM
