BattleBots headed to an ESPN near you -- now with less suck
Maybe we'll never know how Comedy Central could run a show like "BattleBots" and not have it be the greatest thing ever. Lucky for us, the concept is getting another shot at life thanks to the fine folks at ESPN 2 and ESPNU. The new show format will have an increased emphasis on the behind-the-scenes nerdmergencies in the "pits" when the bots need tweaking or full on repairs. They're also going to do away with the annoying wedgebots (similar in principle to this Microsoft bot up above, just more annoying), beef up the arena hazards and add a new experimental class for featuring other bot types competing in what are hopefully equally destructive forms. The show was going to start up in June, but is being held back a bit while the 150 or so participating college teams prep entries, and the mayhem is now slated to begin in November.

Well, hot damn! I had a couple of BattleBot designs I never got to build because they went off the air before I got everything I needed. Now I hope I have enough free time to start chasing down parts to go ahead and build at least one of them.
Sounds good. I still have my robot army from UK series 2 3 and 4. Waiting for the call...
You sound like you haven't competed before so check out this.
www.buildersDB.com
It's got almost every robot ever registered for competition in the United States as well as a list of upcoming competitions.
Scorpeus, check out www.buildersdb.com or www.botleague.com - The sport is bigger than ever, 50+ comps per year.
Yea, but I want National TV Coverage!!!
Anyone remember Robotica on TLC?
robotica was actually better than battlebots, I'm sad that is gone too. It showed off the robot talents more.
I competed in Battlebtos IQ after Battlebots went off the air from comedy central. I've been waiting for it to go back on the air so I could compete again.
I think wedge bots have their advantages though in robot combat I don't know why they would do away with them.
Seriously, in the lightweight division, no bot was as awesome as ZIGGO
The only way to beat Ziggo was to either strike first from above or to hit Ziggo and then attack right away again before Ziggo got back up to fighting speeding
I remember the Toys that sold (From Canada?) I still have the one for ZIGGO
I would watch this show every day if it was on (Gotta love TIVO)
BATTLEBOTS OOOOOOOOOOO MY GOOD , en serio es mi serie favorita estoy muy contento que lo vuelvan a pasar como no recordar las viejas peleas de Overkill , Ramnstein , Biohazard , Tazbot , Mechadon , Frenzy y muchos mas pero ahora de nuevo , no veo la hora que empiese, saludos ESPN Viva Battlebots !!!!!!!!
For the poster who complained about Robot Wars damage only being done by washing machines and bowling balls, that was the utterly lame last season. They also pretty much showed you who won and lost in the beginning bloody titles!
I also thought all the way through that the house robots should have been built to the same max weight as the competitor robots - let's see just how tough you are now, Killalot!
But I loved Hypnodisc (memories of the destruction of Splinter, V-Max and Ming 3 still haunt me!), Razer (made a colander out of Matilda), Chaos 2 (tipped all the house robots, yay!) and Terrorhurtz (maniac driving, very entertaining!)
The early series ruled!
