USB bomb brings new meaning to "plug-and-play"
Looking for that perfect weapon of mass destruction to pair with The Button? This USB Bomb designed by Joel Escalona should fit the bill nicely. Unfortunately, it's just a concept at the moment, but we're sure with a little bit of Styrofoam and a whole bunch of black crayons you could get yourself on the FBI watch list in no time.

So... what does it do?
Clasifyd @ Mar 14th 2008 1:38PM
Just storage.
Bomb-drive FTL...
JAmerican @ Mar 14th 2008 5:55PM
I think Engadget meant to say
Plug and Pray
Flashpoint @ Mar 14th 2008 12:18PM
How about a little plastic guy with a vest made of 100 kilos of Semtex?
Jhongerkong @ Mar 14th 2008 12:20PM
"Honey, I bought you a new USB drive. Now im off to work."
Ryan @ Mar 14th 2008 12:23PM
Or you can just spray-paint a Christmas ornament black, it's a lot easier.

soo... does it explode when plugged into a laptop? is it a flash drive?
does it turn into suger cube robot when plugged in?
Brad @ Mar 14th 2008 3:51PM
It does...nothing. It's just some "artist" trying to make some "statement" - expect the tag line to go something along the lines of:
"This piece is conveys [deep brooding emotion] over the [increasing/decreasing] importance of [social value] in modern society. It shows the [isolation/abandonment/fear/apprehension] that we all feel, and how technology is ruling our lives. Hang on, my iPhone is ringing."
Isak? @ Mar 15th 2008 1:54AM
Brad, you win at life. Seriously. Your comment made me laugh for a good three minutes.
y3k.nik @ Mar 15th 2008 6:58AM
I dont think there are many artists who roam the pages of engadget, so I will just say it..
Artists, stop frigging making "technology" that does nothing except add another $1000 to our already overdrawn credir cards!!
First there were artist versions of the MBA(at least they worked) and now a USB bomb that wont even explode???
I might buy an MBA now, seeing how it has a higher chance of exploding than this actual "bomb"
Chaj @ Mar 14th 2008 12:35PM
That thing is da bomb!
Esat @ Mar 14th 2008 12:45PM
Yes. Yes it is.
Zak @ Mar 14th 2008 12:52PM
Way, way too easy.
Andrew @ Mar 14th 2008 1:13PM
Haha, man...I almost low ranked you for that comment.
But I realized I was just jealous that you beat me to it.
Cheers
System48 @ Mar 14th 2008 12:44PM
The final design should have a lit USB cable that turns off from the plug to the bomb so it looks like a burning fuse. It should have a flash drive in it that has a few various virus bombs.
Newman @ Mar 14th 2008 12:46PM
Somebody set up us the bomb!
...
...hello? This thing on...?
rob @ Mar 14th 2008 12:54PM

How are you Gentlemen, I have been kind and not taken your bases. Instead I have left you a charming hamper basket and hope we can take long walks by the beach and write poetry together sometime.
Kizorblade @ Mar 14th 2008 2:12PM
@ssuk
You ruined it!
I hope you're happy.
crho85 @ Mar 14th 2008 3:57PM

PhilxBefore @ Mar 14th 2008 12:55PM
I want one that is more bowling-ball sized. This looks tiny.
Macdelaney @ Mar 14th 2008 1:22PM
i totally agree!
who would you scare with one of thesee?
also, WTF is it?
Backlin @ Mar 14th 2008 12:59PM
You'd think this bomb could be more discreet, since it's the 21st century and all...
Magallanes @ Mar 14th 2008 1:04PM
If don't work then it's ACME.

Just provided a reference, not every one reads Engadget on a minute by minute or weekly basis.
N30 G30 @ Mar 15th 2008 10:49AM
I guess you're right. Not everyone reads head comments in chronological order. I didn't know there's people like this but apparently you don't do it.
michaelportent @ Mar 14th 2008 2:07PM
I'd feel like lobbing this across the office at particularly annoying co-workers. And that would probably hurt the stored contents after a while...
Sam @ Mar 14th 2008 2:18PM
Yeah, but DOES IT BLEND?!?!?!?

Hmmm.. I don't want to go in a airport with that.

I would totally buy this if it turns out to be priced rather cheap. I've always wanted to say "Ya, my hard drive is the bomb!". Although I don't know how I would transport it to and from home without the police wanting to ask me a few questions...
Steve @ Mar 14th 2008 7:12PM
what a coincidence....I've always wanted to punch someone who said their hard drive was the bomb...

If by new meaning to "plug-and-play" you mean plug-and-not-play then yeah I see what you're saying (since it doesn't seem to do anything).

Imagine adding say 4 of them to a usb hub such as this one...
