InnoDisk intros 128GB FiD 2.5-inch SATA 10000 SSD
If you were impressed with OCZ's latest 2.5-inch SSDs, chances are you'll be thoroughly enamored by InnoDisk's FiD 2.5-inch SATA 10000. 'Course, it's certainly not the first 128GB solid state disc we've seen, but it does boast a rugged metal enclosure and promises sustained read / write rates of up to 110Mbps / 90Mbps. Reportedly, this SLC NAND flash drive will see its way out to samplers later this month, and it should start shipping in volume sometime during Q2.[Via FarEastGizmos]

::Yawn::
Another one?
Still 8 to 16 times as big as I need. I'm not paying for that.

"Still 8 to 16 times as big as I need."
Hmm...
128 divided by 8 is 16GB and 128 by 16 is 8GB.
You mean you can survive with 8GB to 16GB? Wow, you're amazing! What do you store in there?
I think he means just for his system drive.
I agree, I'd want an 8 or 16GB SSD for my / partition, and then a higher capacity hard drive for /home or somesuch for storage
"Still 8 to 16 times as big as I need. I'm not paying for that."
You are really obsessed with this 8-16 thing aren't you? You know they probably make them in that size, shut up and buy one. Just because you aren't doing anything useful with your computer doesn't mean everyone else wants to suffer.
Without a price, this means nothing. Here's some more news: the first 256 GB SSd drives will be shipping out by early February. Why aren't I hailed as a seer? Because the only thing people care about is how much it's going to cost. 512GB, and multi terabyte SSDs are inevitable, and when they come out and from whom doesn't remotely matter.
How much it'll cost, and also the fact that very few SSDs are actually available for purchase to consumers.
seriously, how much?
Some number that will make you wish that you're dead.
(sarcasm)
whatever it costs, i'm going to cover it in swarovski crystals and resell it to some rich asshat for a cool $40k. for charity, of course.
@ m
You still won't make your money back.
DO WANT =D
You know the expression...If you have to ask you can't afford it! Well here goes.
How much is it? (I am sure it will be more than the 250G Seagate I bought a month ago, that died in 3 days after a complete re-install)
It may not be the first 128GB SSD, but it's over SATA 9000.
...I'll be quiet now.
My guess would be somewhere around 2k.

110/90 Mbps is incredibly slow...
Was MBps actually stated, or is it actually MB/s?
If it really is 110Mbps, it must be using extremely slow MLC.
That is extremely slow. I guess they just mistaked MBps for Mbps.
Does this mean...that soon enough creative might release a 64 Flash based mp3 player?
its over nine thousaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand!!!
So I imagine this is the first Raptor equivalent for SSD?
Nope.
M-Tron have been making similarly-specced, lower-capacity SSDs for ages now.
110Mbps or 110MBps?
110Mbps is quite slow, Sony's SxS Express cards can read at 800Mbps (100MBps).
It's MB/s for gods sakes!!! Who the hell measures disc transfer speeds in Megabits per second?????
NO ONE. Thats the answer. And NO, this is not the fastest SSD. See Mtron et al
For a moment there I thought it was a 10,000 gb SSD :p
way to put my hopes up... ...and kill them a second later :(
EEEK THAT AVATAR SCARES ME!
Adblock...
Go SSD, just bring price down!
Dont get me wrong i love vista but:
SSD is like vista, its all very well, but it doesnt offer much over the preious generation. For instance, yes nice transparent GFX are nice, but who cares when it makes games a bit less nippy?
Wow this drive writes fast, oh crap i filled it up in a day because its so goddam small!
Peace out man.
You may believe it or not, but I think my EeePC's 4 GB SSD (which is one of the slowest on the market) is better than any HDD, even enormous ones, like 500 GB.
Why? Because I don't need to store thousands of songs and movies on my notebook. I need it to turn on and off and work very fast. And no HDD can do that.
I'm not saying 4 GB is enough. It's not, I have to use external storage (SD card) to help me.
But my point is that a 128 GB SSD is way more useful than a 1 TB HDD when used as a primary disk.
On a desktop, nothing stops you from using a SSD + HDD combo. This will probably be common on big (13.3"+) notebooks too.
Faulting SSD drives for not holding a lot of data is like faulting a Porsche 911 for not holding as many groceries as a slow, gigantic minivan. It's true that it doesn't hold as many groceries, but the minivan isn't anywhere nearly as fast as the Porsche. In other words, it's not a fault if your comparison is completely invalid.
Different applications require different approaches and believe it or not, not everyone is pursuing the same exact applications as you.
I won't even go there with how odd comparing SSD drives to Windows Vista is. But maybe you actually don't know what sort of usage these drives are meant for.
SSD = Vista??? Are you kidding me? Thats the most idiotic comparison I've ever seen.
Doesn't offer much over older technology? Apparently you've never read a review or seen benchmarks from a highspeed SSD. And this particular model is not the highest capacity SSD, even if most of them happen to be smaller than their equivalent 2.5" hdd. If you have the money, they do make 2.5" SSDs that hold 800GB-1TB

You mean like yours is? Unlike the SSD, a 911 is actually faster than a minivan. Today's SSDs are only faster at a few things and are not faster overall for many applications. SSDs will be more interesting when they are more affordable, more roomy, and truly faster than HDDs.
Meanwhile, a 911, in fact, holds fewer groceries than a minivan and you can fault it for that. At least you didn't say an Apple was like a BMW.
This drive will be around 250 to 280 $ I guess.
SLC \o/
I agree with eggothewaffle.... Most of you are missing the point...
This is not ment for playing games or storing all your movies and rubbish. if you read the article it says target markets are... "enterprise server, military, aerospace, commercial aviation, and industrial markets under harsh environmental conditions".
It can withstand 1500G of shock!!!!!! thats what solid state is all about. We put them on industrial machines and they are way beter than any HDD. You can ship them around the world and know they will work when they get there. they are not ment to replace desktop mass storage.
8Gb is enough as with this kind of device normally you would run XPe and have a rock solid machine, if you want mass storage .. go buy a hdd they will always be cheaper and bigger (for the forseable future anyway) however 128Gb is great for datalogging in the target markets.
At the moment you can buy them for the wrong side of $4000 but they will come down.
