Rumor has it 802.11n Airport Express due out soon
MacRumors is reporting that a long overdue 802.11n version of the Airport Express should be landing soon, possibly as early as this Tuesday. Apparently it'll run for the same $99, so keep an eye out for Apple Store downtime in a couple days.Update: TUAW's reporting the 802.11n Express also appeared on the Swiss Apple site, lending credence to the theory.

This is probably not a rumor considering the MacbookAir launched with an 802.11n built inside. I just wish Microsoft would create an 802.11n adapter for the 360 that doesn't cost $100 - and that SONY would start producing PS3's with 802.11n.

Were you not here for the whole thing about there being N included but disabled in the Intel Macbooks when they came out?
Chuckles McGee @ Mar 16th 2008 2:29PM
"Get N or Get Out", to harken back to the Nintendo days of yore.
Maestro @ Mar 16th 2008 3:30PM

Hmmm, I'm just glad that it is becoming a standard. When I was in a store a few months ago I saw so many options of wifi that I just chose not to buy a new WiFi router alltogether (I've got a Dell D830 which has a .n adapter).

*a-hem*
Hate to be the grammar police here, but:
ru·mor –noun
1. a story or statement in general circulation without confirmation or certainty as to facts
Engadget's use of the word is proper, since we have not gotten confirmation yet. But, yes, I agree with you that this rumor is likely true.
Rob Conway @ Mar 16th 2008 4:48PM
haha, i thought they already had them, being as the iMac and MacBook have had 802.11n for a while built in so i just assumed. and you know what they say about assuming. it makes an ASS out of U and ME. okay maybe just me.

*ahem*
Hate to be the English police; you're not arguing grammar, but semantics.
packetsniffer @ Mar 26th 2008 10:33AM
I wasn't trying to pick a fight; I was just pointing out the proper use of the word. Again, I agree with your statement.
darkroom @ Mar 16th 2008 2:02PM
i just wish apple would upgrade the iMac already... hopefully that will come on tuesday as well.
Steven @ Mar 16th 2008 2:31PM
Apple already did a major upgrade to the iMacs barely six months ago, it's way too soon to see another.
Darkroom @ Mar 16th 2008 5:50PM
we'll see about that: http://www.macrumors.com/2008/03/07/penryn-imac-and-mac-mini-updates-soon/
Mr. Gremlin @ Mar 16th 2008 2:06PM
"Soon" has come to mean "next Tuesday..."

Sukhminder @ Mar 16th 2008 2:26PM
Love the combination of "Vista SP1, SP1 toilet paper hit japan" and "oooh new shiny thing from Apple" right behind it.
David Vogt @ Mar 16th 2008 2:40PM
You act surprised.
ryan10ad @ Mar 16th 2008 2:47PM
It's a Sunday what do you expect, people have to take time off from making stories that would go into the middle of these. Engadget is just reporting the news as it gets it, so be quiet.
Neebs @ Mar 16th 2008 3:00PM
News...this is a rumour. If this was slashdot, this would be tagged !news.
chris v @ Mar 16th 2008 2:42PM
"n me baby"
weak.
Dillon @ Mar 16th 2008 8:32PM
It seems like it should really say "n me up baby", but even that fails to :p
AlphaTeam @ Mar 16th 2008 2:45PM
Maybe this time it can stream video too?
Michael LaFramboise @ Mar 16th 2008 5:33PM
Probably not since that would be stealing some of iTV's market...
Raheem @ Mar 16th 2008 2:48PM
"So keep an eye out for Apple Store downtime in a couple days." I know I don't have to Ryan, I have you to do that for me... every... single... second. I'm just kidding, I know how to scroll past stories I care not for :)
Andrew @ Mar 16th 2008 4:18PM
Then why are you posting here? ;)
Raheem @ Mar 16th 2008 4:57PM
Coz I am interested and it was a joke. I feel bad for you and all around you.

It's even capable of wasting an entire outlet.
Dyranios @ Mar 16th 2008 8:56PM
omg is that a chocobo too!? ^.^
Sirius @ Mar 16th 2008 9:04PM
Which is y u plug it into the *lower* outlet... same as with Apple's power adaptors for the portable line..
Or just get one of those outlets that line sockets up horizontally and not vertically :)
Patriks7 @ Mar 16th 2008 3:49PM
btw u guys didnt post "Apple Store is down!" last tuesday :(
Neebs @ Mar 16th 2008 3:52PM
Oh noes!
Netmagix @ Mar 16th 2008 3:54PM
Who thinks it is high time that engadget should be named 'iGadget'?
This is getting quite ridiculous really. Each time Apple farts, engadget smells (blogs) it.
Didou @ Mar 16th 2008 4:23PM
They need to bring all the non Draft-N devices up to par then: Mac Mini, iPhone & iPod Touch. The Airport Extreme doesn't work quite well when you set it to accept 802.11G connections (as well as 802.11N) & I'm thinking that the Express version will have the same "attitude" in those conditions.
Mark @ Mar 16th 2008 4:39PM
Geezus Ryan, I sent this rumour into Engadget a few weeks ago - my own sourcing too.
I was placing a huge order for Apple stuff online thru their website, AppleTV, Time Capsule, a couple of shuffles, some cables, etc... and an Airport Express. The Airport Express was out of stock (unusual, usually for a regularly listed Apple product), with deliver sometime in the distant future. So I cancelled that part of the order, and started phoning around to all the Apple places in Vancouver (we're still waiting for our Apple store). Three of the stores speculated that it's out of stock, and has been for some time because it's getting an "N" refresh, and that I should hold off on buying it. So I wrote you guys, TUAW, etc about it. ;)
Not a huge, earth shattering announcement, but it's good to see Apple's making their whole line N capable.... oh wait. The iPhone and the iPod Touch ain't there yet.... :)
Raheem @ Mar 16th 2008 4:58PM
People would probably expect much more than a 10% return on that investment, fyi ;)
Raheem @ Mar 17th 2008 6:25AM
Lol, why leave this post up when it's clearly not related to anything since you deleted the original?
KarlW @ Mar 16th 2008 5:19PM
Apple should add a DSL modem to the Airport while they're at it. Customers just expect it to have one, then get a nasty surprise.
fourthletter @ Mar 16th 2008 5:33PM
So this isn't a scam which is why you want to give money to complete strangers on a message board.
Why don't you just drive to Germany or France and stop posting crap like this.
aoi tsuki @ Mar 16th 2008 6:23PM

The download speed is killing me!
JP @ Mar 16th 2008 10:34PM
My sister just went to the Apple store today to buy a new Airport express, and the people there told her that they had all been pulled off the shelves because there was a refresh due "next week". I'm glad to see some supporting evidence. Here's hoping they'll actually let us download the latest Airport admin software once this is released.
Lin @ Mar 16th 2008 11:52PM
Shoot I just got one two weeks ago...
