Polaroid intros 60GB Freescape 4360 WiFi-enabled PMP
If you were wondering if you'd ever hear another peep about that Freescape digital media ecosystem that Polaroid trumpeted in January, here's your answer. Quietly launched on the firm's own website, the Freescape 4360 (also known as the MPU-043315B) is a WiFi-enabled portable media player packin' a 60GB hard drive, a rechargeable Li-ion good for 16 hours of audio playback (just 4 hours with video), a 4.3-inch 480 x 272 resolution LCD, an FM tuner, TV output and support for MPEG4, WMA, WMV, MP3 and JPEG formats. Mum's the word on a price or release date, but without handling a few more formats, we can't see any Archos / Cowon / iriver lovers switching sides for this.[Via ShinyShiny]

The world has enough media players.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Well, fingers.
Why do companies bring products into a flooded market with nothing new to add?
I think it's time for media players to leave 480x272 behind, and begin showing us some HD love.

Not to mention the pitiful 4 hours of video playback.

Actually I feel the complete opposite. As the consumer, you should welcome any and all competition. Unless you actually like paying more for your gadgets. More serious competition is what the industry needs. Nobody is doing much as far as innovation goes. The last major step was so long ago when Archos started making a decent PMP with touch screen and WiFi, and then after a while Apple followed suit and did the same thing and added it to a phone (and then came out with the touch).
The more companies that enter the market the more the major market share leaders are forced to try and innovate and keep that market share. I'm pointing out the obvious here, but apparently it sounds like it may not be that obvious to some. Players in Asia are inexpensive because they have to be. (Yes I know a lot of them are crappy, too, but a lot of them are quality too)

Why do companies keep making PMPs with 4.3" 480 x 272 screens? 800x480 is the norm in Archos and Cowon players.

Where's the slot the picture comes out of?
For that matter, where's the camera?

every market needs a ceiling and a bottom... and fortunately polaroid is that bottom we all so desperately need.

All that's left is the picture frame, the set-top boxes already passed FCC:

Yeah, Polaroid, right... It's just a failed brand that the Petters Group Worldwide bought to capitalize on their brand name. They have no interest whatsoever in the companies history or anything else. All they want to do is print Polaroid on any sort of product. Wouldn't be surprised if this thing is just some rebranded crap.
