AMD missteps result in 5% work force reduction?
Rumors are rampant this morning that AMD is in the throes of a silent slash in global head-count. An estimated 800 or so employees are expected to hit the soup lines -- a number which reflects about 5% of its total work force. Not a surprise given the global downturn in the economy coupled with AMDs recent missteps in its epic battle with Intel. AMD has not made the layoffs official yet. However, the bad news is expected when their Q1 results are announced, if not sooner. [Via The Inquirer]

Well at least they get government cheese ;0)
well, they can always force the CEO to take a pay cut. Judging by the way he has run AMD to the ground, it's probably justified.
intel is killing them... here comes the freight train wooh wooh chagachaga chagachaga chagachaga
weird... I couldn't help but rank you up.
Made me feel like dancing.
@Chewba, you're comments frequently make me snicker. thanks.
Meh, never cared for AMD, but I still don't want to see them go under. I don't understand how that same CEO is there. Where I work you get fired if you do a shitty job, I thought that was pretty standard.
I have a boss at another job that had $200,000+ stock options that prove you wrong. Doing a shitty job at a low level = bad. Doing a shitty job at a management or higher level? Perfect! At least that has been my entire experience.
Even though overclocked Q6600's are truly wonderful things (and ironically reminds me of the AMD 2500+ XP Mobile speed demons from 4 years ago), without the threat of some sort of competition, we would be stuck paying high prices for substandard chips with low performance.
This generation has been tough for AMD :[
Will they please give Mr. Ruiz his pinkslip and tell him to GTFO.
AMD is the best.
See this is the blatant fanboyism that I hate. Yes, I can understand you liking AMD better, but saying they are better is just stupid these days.
I meant saying they are BEST is stupid, because they aren't.
