HTC's Dream again rumored to be first Android phone
We've been hearing about the HTC Dream (likely not pictured above) for what seems like an eternity on a tech timeline. Now "a person close to the situation" tells InfoWorld that the Dream is indeed HTC's Android phone. Remember, HTC is widely expected to be the first from the gate with a retail phone featuring Google's open source OS. The Dream is said to measure 3-inches wide by 5-inches long and feature a full QWERTY keypad that "either slides out or swivels." Right, exactly what Forbes told us 5 months ago. Still, it's always a good sign when the rumor mongers align. Whatever happens, we certainly expect the first Android phone to be exceptionally spec'd as a showcase of the OS' power and possibilities to come.

If it's not pictured above, they should change the design.
Sean @ Mar 20th 2008 5:03PM
dear phone manufacturers, people like all things symetrical do not under any circumstances offset from center
Jeff @ Mar 20th 2008 7:21PM
Dear phone manufacturers, please ignore Sean; he may think that he speaks for everyone in the world, but he does not.
(not that offset is always good, but it certainly is not always bad.)

Sexy design, IMHO.

HTC's Android, Dell's Android, SE's Xperia X1.... all great dream phones. But in the end, they all pale in comparison to Nvidia's APX 2500 powered phones.
I'm sorry but I just can't get the APX 2500's ultra-beautiful, ultra-fluid, ultra-3D UI off my mind. It's taking over me.
Frankenstein Black @ Mar 20th 2008 8:47AM
Woh dude, pull your pants back up...
Jeff @ Mar 20th 2008 7:30PM
that UI is really pretty and looks pretty bad ass... but the interface looks totally impractical, and the device looks *enormous*
Hopefully the concept will evolve. ...into a phone available on Sprint. :)
EdgeOne @ Mar 20th 2008 8:50AM
Exciting possibilities for the OS!
A lot of people are giving Palm a lot of crap for remaining stagnant in their development, but I have yet to find a phone I can operate as quickly, and with one hand, as my Treo 650. Taking the time to open the screen and then having to type using both hands (reaching one thumb over that wheel) does not seem intuitive at all.
Raheem @ Mar 20th 2008 9:04AM
Yeah seriously, what is with that?
prisoner 01 @ Mar 20th 2008 9:38AM
doth thou readest english?
THAT IS NOT THE PHONE
Raheem @ Mar 20th 2008 10:05AM
Yes but that whole design, whether it's not THE phone... was still concocted. So I stand by, "What's with that?"
jamie @ Mar 20th 2008 8:58AM
Hmmm... There seems to be a bit too much one handed phone fondling this morning...
MindstormMaster1 @ Mar 20th 2008 9:29AM
I would kill for that phone pictured above!!!!!!!!!!!!
HTC should make it the first Android and the first device that can dual boot Windows Mobile and Android.
I would really kill for a dual booting phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PistolPeet @ Mar 20th 2008 10:35AM
You need to get some therapy, that's two things you'd kill for right away. Where does it end?! ;)
MindstormMaster1 @ Mar 20th 2008 11:14AM
I would kill my self working so hard to try and earn money to buy one!!!!!!!!!
crho85 @ Mar 20th 2008 11:41AM
Killing for a phone? Think of the children... won't someone please think of the children.
Jeff @ Mar 20th 2008 7:26PM
This guy would probably kill for some change for the meter.
yikes.
anyway, why in the WORLD would ANYONE want to dual-boot a phone (into WinMo?!?) ...unless you expect Android to suck an incredible amount... i can't fathom what you'd need WinMo for.
y3k.nik @ Mar 20th 2008 11:08AM
with the phone pictured above, I dont really see the QWERTY practical, because it is probably 3 inches diagonally.
So, as great as the phone looks, I am hoping the real thing is a bit more practical
Scott @ Mar 20th 2008 12:49PM
Xperia what? 10 year old (and shows it) Windows Mobile who?
On first glance, this phone definitely looks like it's worthy of the "Dream" name.
nxtiak @ Mar 20th 2008 1:05PM
Wow, for a second I thought it was the "Zune Phone"
Looks exactly like the Zune 80gig, especially the circle pad with the chrome trim, and the huge screen.
DonatoM3 @ Mar 20th 2008 1:33PM
But the Zune is all about the squircle now. They've gone away from the circle. But otherwise I do see your point with the phone closed it does look like a Zune esque phone.
Ryan Pierce @ Mar 20th 2008 1:32PM
*Starts chanting*
"Multi-touch. Multi-touch."
stankychicken @ Mar 20th 2008 1:47PM
that phone looks amazing.

iphone + slide out keyboard + 3g + android os = my dream
I just hope it's theirs too.
Jeff @ Mar 20th 2008 7:23PM
+ Sprint.
that's my dream. :)
DP @ Mar 21st 2008 4:30AM
+Sprint is essential.
egotman @ Mar 20th 2008 3:18PM
Dream on!
I kid I kid....
Ace b @ Mar 20th 2008 3:20PM
Ok...So correct me if im wrong, but those specs seem like ...the SE Xperia X1.
Slide out keyboard?Check.3g?Check.Manufactured by HTC?Check.
I mean,if you really think about this logically,it seems highly realistic.Aren't they also being released round the same time too?Or maybe they will be coming out with a Windows version, and an Android version?
Austin @ Mar 20th 2008 6:06PM
When? WHEN! I can't wait to take a look a an HTC device running Android. Really all I care about is that it leaves my roommates iPhone in the dust.
Jeff @ Mar 20th 2008 7:22PM
hahaha - got something to prove?
i, too, want a beautiful HTC Android phone, but for Sprint. (Or an iPhone for sprint, that'd be okay too.)
Jeff @ Mar 20th 2008 7:20PM

Love the design. I love the tilt screen. I love the keyboard. And most of all, I loe the BIG hi-res touchscreen. Wow.
Perfection. Now if only they were able to beat Motorola into licensing TAT's Cascades UI, this would have been really a DREAM phone.
