Custom-built Xbox 360 joystick gets lit with LEDs
Oh yeah, we've seen homegrown Xbox 360 joysticks that we would love to wrap our digits around, but ShaolinDrunkard's latest creation is almost too pretty to touch -- almost. The Xbox 360 Classic Led joystick sports the prototypical stick / button layout, but also includes that iconic green swirl and a smattering of lovely LEDs to really get the oohs and ahhs flowing. The handmade oak chassis isn't too shabby, either, and as much as we'd love to see these being offered up to those with more dollars than creative genius, we've all ideas this is a one-of-a-kind. See kids, sometimes evolution DOESN'T work.
Kizorblade @ Mar 21st 2008 10:24AM
Darwin, why have you forsaken us?!
dj-kenpo @ Mar 21st 2008 11:14AM
Darwin hasn't forsaken us.
we've forsaken him by not going to this kids house with stones. natural selection no longer works because we let the 'l33t' survive to stupify another day and others around them.

@ kizorblade
darwin hasn't forsaken us, with a sense of humor like that i'm pretty sure he won't be reproducing anytime soon...
ScareyJ @ Mar 21st 2008 10:21AM
Just dream'n, but that combined with MAME on the 360 would be perfect.
mark @ Mar 21st 2008 10:27AM
ben heck eat your heart out!
Hooterman @ Mar 21st 2008 10:42AM
Wrong, Ben could do this with his eyes closed.
This guy has some good wood skills, but other than that this is pretty simple.
dj-kenpo @ Mar 21st 2008 11:16AM
if ben heck did this the 360 and an lcd would be included in the case. and the case would be 5x smaller.
UKNigel @ Mar 21st 2008 11:31AM
Ben heck would have made the whole thing controllable with your mouth, so that even quadriplegics could play Halo.

Speaking of him and Ben Heck, he just HAPPENS to also post on Ben Hecks Forums.

"we've all ideas this is a one-of-a-kind"
...what?
TubeTop100.com @ Mar 21st 2008 12:05PM
we've all ideas this is a one-of-a-kind
PhilxBefore @ Mar 21st 2008 1:20PM
I stumbled over this sentence too.
I think it makes better sense as "we all have ideas this is a one-of-a-kind."
rawd @ Mar 21st 2008 1:22PM
They're short another red ring
med1320 @ Mar 21st 2008 3:55PM
Why would they do such a stupid thing like this? Makes no sense at all.
ulovemikeroch @ Mar 22nd 2008 2:16AM
Oh you mean make a cool custom joystick that helps them play fighting games, yet at the same time is very aesthetically pleasing? The only stupid thing here is you.
CraigJ @ Mar 21st 2008 3:57PM
now I just need a copy of Galaga for my Xbox...
ManekiNeko @ Mar 21st 2008 5:16PM
Reminds me of the film Joysticks, where the main character played Satan's Hollow with a giant, shiny red disco ball.
ZeroCorpse @ Mar 21st 2008 5:51PM
...Because there's nothing that enhances a game more than having a green glowing light shining in your face while you're trying to play.
ulovemikeroch @ Mar 25th 2008 9:00PM
Right, because the stick is right in your fucking face when you play the game, and you also happen not to look at the tv. Good Job.
ShaolinDrunkard @ Mar 22nd 2008 10:01AM
I love how positive everyone on the internet is. Zero: I made sure the leds weren't too bright. Hooterman: If its so simple, you make one.
Later everybody.
ulovemikeroch @ Mar 25th 2008 9:00PM
Dude, I love your work, I've seen your stuff at Stick Vault and even SRK maybe, and I got to say it's some kick ass shit. Keep it up.
dennijr @ Mar 27th 2008 5:53PM
sorry to burst your bubble, although its a nice lookin mod, but i doubt it would be that hard to recreate. if its big enough( looks to be 1 foot width by 3/4 foot long by 1/4 foot high? ) then it would be easier still, basicly all you would have to do is put a controller board inside, remove access parts and custom wire-up the 6 buttons and single joystick
dennijr @ Mar 27th 2008 5:59PM
forgot the LED part
*the wiring of the LED's could be separate from the controllers power, depending on LED's, 2 x 1.5 to 1 x 9v battery would work, like i mentioned before, the space inside would help, joystick would be the most difficult part, but still not overly complicated.
