You might recall The Onion breaking the news back in October that the Apple backlash was
set to begin as of today, and if The Onion says it, it's got to be true. Right? Sure, the Cupertino fruit company's been riding high as of late, but if America's Finest News Source has it, we'll all be looking at our iDevices like bellbottoms and Betamaxes soon enough.

I was just thinking today how Apple's goal to take on Microsoft used to be to hit high and low, or be the mercedes and the toyota with their products. The have their high-end products (ie. Mac Pro and Macbook Pro) and the value products (ie. the macbook and iMac). It seems they really have a secret goal in mind and that is "sucker you in and take advantage of you" and those products would be Apple TV, iPhone, Macbook Air... I started to realize this while reading that ridiculous Macworld article "Loving the Macbook Air"
http://www.macworld.com/article/132582/2008/03/macbookair.html
How crazy is it that you buy this machine which requires you to have their subscription to .mac to store your data!? I've had a subscription and have contemplated getting rid of it for so long since there are so many free web options out there. And the interfaces are getting better so .mac steps it up enough to make me think I need to pay the $99 dollars. What's with the all the 9's anyways.. - ok, here come my true rant - the macbook air 1.8ghz cost as much as the macbook 2.1ghz and the macbook pro 2.4ghz combined! that's $1100 + $2000 = $3100 (forget the damned 9.. $1099 $1999... $3098?! ...98?! WHAT !!! (hmm. it really must be worth the macbook and macbook pro?!)Damnit Appple!? THAT's insane! You really think that thin, slow thing that fits in an envelope is worth 2 great computers??! When you start to have the ridiculous thoughts "Hmm. let's see what I should put on this?" or "umm. how am I going to use this computer?" then you know you've created a hard sell!!! It's only lots of hype and some thoughtless journalism that can convince a couple suckers to buy it. NO WONDER they didn't want the 8 CORE MAC PRO at the MWSF when "Something is in the Air" yeah.. something slow and environmentally conscious! I do love the earth, but that doesn't mean you pay more to get less. Yes, I've seen it's beautiful little seductive case, but I didn't get married to just any beautiful bimbo. A product needs substance! Loving the Macbook Air is kind of like loving the Mac Mini but the Mac Mini actually outperforms the Macbook Air and is a quarter of the price. The Mac Mini actually makes you feel like you got away with something, but I'd feel so dishonest with myself getting a macbook air. The Macbook Air really needs to be somewhere around the $800 dollar mark for it to make any sense, so... $799! Even wealthy people who can afford one aren't going to like it as much as their iPhone.
BRING BACK THE OLD APPLE WE ALL USED TO ROOT FOR!!! I admit it.. I used to walk into Apple stores for the fun of selling people on their products. I probably sold over 200 Apple products with all my "Apple" boasting to friends, family and other random people I'd meet.. But you better watch out now. Last time I was in a store to see the Macbook Air some guy was looking at the one next to me and we both tore it a new one. And other people were all listening in. I think we had a crowd going, luckily no Apple employees were in our area to break it up. I don't have anything good to say about apple lately. I feel like a sucker and frankly we all are. We all helped Apple get the good name and now they're taking their cake, eating it, have big bellies.. and I'm sorry to say that's why they're not the underdog no more.
I can only hope Google goes further and makes a free platform that works on any machine and blows Apple away; just like they will do with Android on phones. That's who I'm rooting for these days. Freeeeeeeeeeeee cuz apple broke the bank!
Peace
Man thats a lot of text in one post. I didn't even go past the first line.
Engadget is starting to become a waste of time.
Then quit reading it Stunta, we don't care if you read it or not.
Thanks Bob, I'm glad you said it. Engadget is only a waste for comments like stunta's
I have to say yes with the recent jamming Safari with Quicktime along with Itunes
"Did the Onions predict an Engadget flaming today?"
Well if the voting polls were computers running linux, the big voting fiasco last time might not have happened. But since the only thing the local government can program in (and I use that term loosely since a wysiwyg editor hardly constitutes programming) is MS based, its no wonder the voting polls are so screwed up!
I love Apple. There different, inovative, creative and passionate. I know that if really need help there at the end of the phone. I spent one hour with a specialist on the phone, and he really helped, and i was having problems with my Windows PC! The poor guy had to try and find a windows laptop in his Apple Help Centre. Thats what makes me love them, they do care. Not just about me, but about making truely great products. Amazing products that change things. Products that make me go wow, and I don't get that from Sony or Microsoft. A turn around? I don't think so. People with have their fingers crossed, especially those at Redmond, but if you really hate Apple so much then don't use their products.
Apple isn't a charity, is a company. iPods are not iPhones, there completely different products, with completely different money making perspectives. Yes, i have to pay to get 2.0 for my iPod Touch, but my god is it worth it. When i bought my iPod did i think, actually this £200 isn't worth it for just 10 apps, no i didn't. I thought, bloody hell this is amazing. So, yes, it may seem unfair to those who decide that the system is not for them, but Apple is providing honest people with a way of creating apps and those who decided to break the rules have made their beds, and now has come the time to lie in them.
I love Apple, and really cannot wait for WWDC. A 4D Dock? A real life Time Machine? I somehow don't think so, but i seriously cannot wait to see what they come up with. Technology changes all the time, but always follows the path that Apple has set.
i really hate engadget and it's "no linking directly to the source, instead linking to yet-another engadget article to drive revenue and hits" policy. c'mon engadget, there's more to the internet than your website, or so i'm told. not that i'd know it visiting your site...
Onion was having a laugh with the article, However on a serious note, I belive the alleged backlash started with IPod and Itunes for Windows, Boot Camp, Safari for Windows and Iphone. These features brought Apple out of the wall garden effect of the Mac OS and into the general public of Windows based computing.
There's no doubt this direction as brought Apple more profits and brand awareness, But I belive the small, underground Mac OS community that Apple once depended on in the past is slowly disapearing, And I fell sad about that. Please note I am not against Windows OS or it's users, When it come's to computing you make your own choice, But it's just the way I feel.
Would I get my Mac laptop out in a coffee shop to work on?, I am not so sure nowadays, there's too many of them about. I never thought I would think like that in the past!.
ahahaha, right when i clicked the vote button (MBP updates needed) i got a forced "update" request for safari on my windows machine... they're watching everything...
"We need something to say we're gay AND a computer company."
And behold they gave us the flamboyant Apple logo.
Hmmmmm, I got a Dell Vostro 1400 with an Apple sticker and I oncw had a flat white at Starbucks 2 years ago,OH MY GOD!, I'm a transvestite!
