Acer not developing game console after all

Comments made earlier this week from Acer senior VP James Wong had the intarwebz ablaze with hunches that the firm could be entering the console market in one way or another. Now, however, a UK spokesperson has clarified that there "was a major misunderstanding," and outrightly asserted that the outfit was "not going to release any game console." Instead, the idea is to "develop a high-end PC targeted at the serious gamer." So yeah, you can take that Xbox 360 off of eBay -- looks like you'll be needing it for awhile longer.

I'm not suprised another manufacturer doesn't want to enter this console race or future ones. If you start now, you have to take a major loss for the next console to be somewhat successful. Even if you do that, that doesn't guarantee anything.

It's really not Microsoft slamming, they are saying it's the game machine people have (although they are also saying Acer would make a quality gaming console, which they don't have the resources).

Btw, I hate both the capitalist companies(MS a little bit more for screwing PC gamers), I only buy games for my Dreamcast..

Dude your life is surrounded by 'capitalist companies'. In fact isn't the word 'capitalist' redundant when referring to companies? My point is: get over it. You can't play the DC forever and if you do choose to, you'll be missing out on some quality titles for all consoles! I don't have a PS3 myself (yet), but Bioshock, Mass Effect, MGS (upon release), GTA4... I'm sure there's something you like and you've gotta take a step into HD, man.

I'm not lecturing I just think maybe you're missing out? To be fair, if you bought a 360 today you'd have a very small chance of RROD, hell I've had 360s from launch and never had a problem! Just waiting for a PS3 killer app or price drop now :)

Trials and Tribulations of a Gamer in the "other" part of the world:

I am doing "da HD thang" on my PC.. Played COD4, one hell of a game.. UT3, Crysis(!!),Gears of War,etc..

I mean, i'm like an active importer.. Well,i've got to be - I live in India(Btw, i'm NOT your tech support guy!) And the thought of an Xbox 360 has been in my mind ever since MTV unveiled it, and don't even get me started on the PS3, i used to dream about the KillZone trailer(Really).. I can buy the Xbox 360 within the blink of an eye. But, i chose not to..

Reason: I plunked down $500 on my new rig (then) for a 8800 GTS 640MB only to get done in the rear by a 8800GT later [Wanted to be Crysis-Ready =(].. Still unfazed by Vista's(I bought Vista Ultimate) lackluster game catalogue, I was on the edge of buying a Xbox 360 from Play-Asia, until MSFT India announced their intention of coming into India, and then rumours of a black Xbox 360 started to revolve in the interwebs, officially known as Xbox 360 Elite.. Had to wait for ots launch.. Suddenly, i keep on hearing about them RRoDs all across the web.. Got a bit stressed-out, i really wanted that 'box. Thought that i'll get that uber-cool Elite. MS announces $1bn for repairing consoles (Breaking Point!) I really didnt want my console to get break just months, or even weeks after buying it. I personally feel it weird to buy a console only to find it sitting in the repair centre, and as I mentioned i'm an Importer, Y? Coz, the costs in India are.. simply said "IDIOTIC".. Lots of effin' taxes.. And what if my Xbox breaks, do I send it to HK to repair it?? And in India there are no HDMI equipped Xboxes, only the Elite and the Halo 3 Special Edition Xbox.. But from what I'd seen in the Xbox forums was this guy.. Mohit Anand, Country Manager(!!) - Home & Entertainment Division, Microsoft (The same guy with the Unibrow) telling that there was no need of HDMI equipped Xboxes in India due to low-HD penetration in India (Fine!).. And the Xbox Core costs $400, Premium costs $500, PS3(40GB) costs $600..

So, there you go! Screw MS, Screw Sony.. Until I get Dollar-Rupee equivalent consoles i'm gonna wait.. I'd wish..

[But actually I'm gonna be buying one when I go to UK - Thanks to India being a PAL country :(, else I'd have got one years ago.. Part of my family is American .. Still i'd be getting the gun-metal PS3 Bundle too..]

Try spinning this into a story and try to make MS or Sony to even fart to this incident.. Hell, no they would'nt..

Fair enough mate, I see your point. Glad you are playing the latest games with your PC rig, sounds pretty good. In terms of the £ equivalent, we pay $400 for a Premium here in the UK (thank God for the recent price changes). A PS3 would set me back £299 ($600). Tell me, just out of interest, what is the HD uptake like in India? They say by 2010, about half of UK TV-watching households will have an HDTV.

HD Uptake is pretty decent.. We've got Samsung pushing out 720p LCDs pretty fast.. Maybe thats how they got their world-wide market shares up!..

As of now HD programming is non-existent.. :(, But as i said "IMPORTING FTW"..

Btw, I think Gaming PCs will never ever take off.. Y? Cause, Microsoft loves the rear of a PC gamer and devotes all of MGS(Microsoft Game Studios) resources to develop for the Xbox 360.. So, PC Gamers are stuck with 360 ports and half-assed games (Crysis anyone?) and Multiplatform titles..

hmmm. how come nobody has mentioned the idea of not buying any console, but instead spending your money on sports equipment or a dirt bike or something like that? or (if you're old enough) go out to a bar or club with your friends. you know, there ARE some ways to have fun outdoors doing real things too =P
