ECTACO's jetBook reader will purportedly change your life
ECTACO wants you to know something: it's about to change the way you read... forever! That's right, as we journey into the future, nothing will ever be the same about books, reading, or reading books. According to the company, its jetBook reader will allow you to, "Kiss your old-fashioned, dusty library goodbye," and you can rest easy because, "Not a single tree was cut down to make it!" The "completely amazing" bright red device houses a 5-inch grayscale display, and features multi-language support, bookmarking ability, playback of MP3 files, and an SD slot. The game- and life-changing reader -- which will crush and dismember your stupid, old, and ugly real books -- is available now for just $349.95.

but u cant upload ur own ebooks on it, but there's quite a few on installer...ya know...
This is most intriguing:
"Can't find the book you want?
Let us find it for you!
All you need to do is enter the title of the book you want and your email address, then sit back and let us do the rest!"

That raises more than a few questions...
my life has changed just reading this
I'm not buying an e-book reader until they look like the datapads from Star Trek. That's the real future of reading!
Excuse me, but those datapads are correctly called "PADDs." (Personal Access Display Device). Not to be overly picky about it, but I'm a rabid trekkie and seeing the PADDs called anything other than their proper name about gave me neural metaphasic shock.
how does it differ from Amazon's proprietary Kindle?
not the PRICE...

You can't expect people who rip off a product (Kindle) to come up with an original name or logotype can you (JetBlue)?
It doesn't just look like the JetBlue logo, it is set in the same typeface (it's DIN) as the JetBlue logo.
Woeful failness.
In every way.
So where's the slot to shove my old paper books in?
The lack of EVDO and e-ink comes to mind. But it does manage to be uglier and there is something to be said for that.
When will these companies learn? Until they get the price down to $100 or less these will fail.
e-book readers will fail until all the major publishing houses get together and say "We will support this device by releasing every book we publish for it. We are also going to go through our vaults and begin to sell our back-catalogs for this device." This WILL NEVER HAPPEN.
sign loosk like jetblue..
Strange Coincidence? The new ECTACO jetBook that plays music, is bright red and has an SD expansion slot is awfully close in design to the fabled "Swindle ePad Book reader" that was released on November 20th for $397.

Is life imitating art? What gives? Is the jetBook really a Swindle in disguise?

Just to clarify, this unit uses LCD display, with NO backlight. Battery life is over a week of intensive usage. Currently doesnt support any DRM ebooks. Plays MP3 as well as JPGs. Options include WiFi, touchscreen and text-to-speech - not sure if ECTACO chose these options or not.
ugh..what about the amazon kindle or the sony reader
Wow, this is SO awesome! As soon as the price comes down by $345, and they make sure I have a way of permanently archiving my e-books, oh, and moving them between devices so I can lend 'em to my lady and my friends... I'm *ALL* over this, you bet! WOW! Totally AWESOME!
You are better off buying a Sony eReader, its cheaper and looks a million times nicer.
That and you can listen to an audiobook on it and read at the same time oooo its not like there the first people to have such a gadget.
