Although PlayStation 2 / 3 and Xbox 360 owners have been living the dream
for months, Wii owners can finally circle a date on their calender to undoubtedly be sick: June 22nd. As we
expected, the title will indeed be adding Nintendo's darling to its tour 'round the consoles, but just like those pesky Ticketmaster fees, things aren't going to be all peaches and cream during the checkout process. For starters, Wii purchasers will be forced to swallow the "no downloadable content" and "no online multiplayer support" pills, and after those are down, they'll be forced to shell out $169.99 and know that their Wiimote won't have anything to do with the instruments (unlike Guitar Hero III's Wiimote-controlled axe). And no, your GHIII guitar most definitely won't play nice with Rock Band. Yes, that
is the sound of your expectations being crushed.
Update: The crew over at Joystiq got in touch with Harmonix, who hooked them up with this pic of the white Wii drumkit and a
few additional deets: although a lot of features got axed, including character creation and Mii support, Wii rockers will score wireless guitars out of the box. Sure, but we'd rather have GHIII compatibility, you know?

At the same time though, younger kids will probably see their older siblings playing this and want one, so they probably wouldn't know the difference anyways... (neither do most parents either, as long as it looks relatively similar and works)
This really sucks. My brother wants to buy my Wii...... I think I am going to sell it and jump to another console. 90 bucks for the WiiFit and crappy versions of GHIII and RB. I can almost understand lack of DLC but even stripping out character creation, online play, and use of miis.... Terrible job Harmonix...
Hm... DLC and online on my PS3... or No DLC and online on my Wii...
Decisions, decisions...
GAAH the crushing irony.
PS2 version for me!
They suck equally, but I already have two PS2 guitars.
Eh, I guess I'll just be going over to my friends' place to play rock band. I only have a Wii because I think the console is fun, but I wouldn't pay this much for a stripped down rock band, that's for sure.
I know this is off topic, but it would be awesome to have some A Perfect Circle in this game
this has like completely ruined my day, i was so excited that rock band was announced on wii. but no compatability for GH3 guitar, thats y i bought the dam game, so i could freakin use it with rock band. and no DLC sux all the more. harmonix hasnt realised that theyll make so much money from DLC on wii. no multiplayer either? if it could work on GH3, it could work on rock band dont u think?
if some jackass from harmonix is reading this, i suggest releasing some cds with songs that we can install considering we cant download. like $50 for 50 songs. id buy that and im sure a lot of other people would to. try make it up to the people u screwed over.
5 xtra songs for no multiplayer, no DLC, no compatibilty for GH3 controller isnt worth it. pick up ur game fellas. (literally, pick it up and fix it)
I'm actually not that bummed about the lack of DLC and Online multiplayer. Nintendo never has been strong in the online department of the console gaming business. What really irks me is that my GHIII axe won't work with RBWii. I've played RB on 360, and the axe that comes with it sucks - the strum bar doesn't have the definitive click that helps me maintain rhythm on tricky songs. Here's hoping for an Activision/Harmonix truce so I can use my GHIII axe on RB!
That's the reason I like the guitar from RB, I don't really like the annoying click from my GH3 controller it messes me up sometimes. It would still be nice to have compatible guitars so you would at least have an extra guitar already for RB. Still undecided though as to whether I want to get this or not, I really liked it when I play it on the PS3, but with no DLC, no online game play, and with no customizable charachters WTF!!!.....maybe it's time to get a PS3.
that really stinks that u cant use the GH3 guitar but i really dont care about the online thing-at least wii users will get to have rock band. and its really expensive! i better start savin up!
I am very upset... My husband will be coming home from Iraq for his mid-tour leave in July - and our plan was to buy the Wii - since he's always wanted a video game system, and me (being a non-gamer) can really enjoy playing the Wii games. This was supposed to be the 'best of both worlds' but being able to download wanted songs for Rock Band is of high importance. This is truely a bad move.
im excited except its gay how you cant play online does anyone kno if they will ever change it so that you can????
