Is 300lbs (or about 136kg) really an issue? I mean, anyone over that weight, of any height, is clearly obese at the very least, so surely this won't affect the vast majority of people? Or have things really got that bad in the US?
@Mattb90- The 300 lb limit is the maximum weight which the wiifit will tolerate. I personal am nowhere close to that limit, but would be interested to shape up a bit.
My obese friend will be very upset when he sees it and told not to get on it.
Yes, it will be a bit of an issue. Average weight in 2002 for male adults was 191 lbs. It's probably gone up a little by now, near 200 I would bet. Hmm...I can't find the statistics I'm looking for, but I wouldn't be suprised if 10% of the American people weigh 300lbs.+ This also can vary greatly by region something instereting I turned up was the percent of obese people by state and how it's changed over the years:
So yes, we have a lot of fatties here in the US. My ideal weight is probably about 20-30lbs. lower (5'10" and I weigh ~205-210), and I'm lucky I have a pretty high metabolism, otherwise with what I eat I'd be a lot bigger.

I heard that thing can only support up to 300 lbs, Has that been super-sized to the American standard?

Perhaps getting light enough to play Wii Fit will be a motivator in itself for the morbidly obese to drop some pounds.

They don't want to adjust it for americans, they want you to buy 2 wii fits, one for each shank of a leg, and capable of holding (most) americans.
