Hands-on with 2.20 PS3 running BD-Live
Now that the 2.20 update for the PS3 is out, our well-heeled brethren at Engadget HD had a chance to take BD-Live for a spin. As significant as this initial salvo into the Blu-ray 2.0 spec is, we'll have to wait just a few more weeks for the first more BD-Live releases before the impact of this update is fully understood. Until then, head on over to Engadget HD for their first look.

Too bad BD-Live is hacked already.

What does mean exactly?
Salacious @ Mar 25th 2008 7:21AM
I think you mean BD+ not BD Live

Hope they will add sub title for DiVX (.sub, .srt .txt etc) play back in the future
Dyson @ Mar 25th 2008 6:38AM
Did you read the update before installing it?
When listing the features of this update, below announcing that DiVX files > than 2GB can now be played, it added that subtitles could now be played with DiVX files.

I have tried after the install but no success playing DivX with sub (.sub and .srt).
Also I have tried to use same file name and under same folder still no success but the sub work in VLC Mac.

Have been reading up on this... people have been saying it IS working (Kotaku) and some are saying it is NOT working (ps3forum). I guess it is hit and miss?

I haven't had a chance to try the patch, but I'm pretty sure that ATRAC, Sony's own proprietary format, still isn't supported. Sony stated in an email from their support desk that ATRAC 132kbs is supported, but when I tried it the unit said "no supported format." Stupid. I actually like ATRAC as the sound quality was top rate and the compressed file sizes were really small. I was able to fit 45 MP3's onto a 1Gig HiMD at 64kbs compression. Though they weren't music files they were more than adequate for listening to voices.

ATRAC is supported. If you had, perhaps, read the manual, looked through the settings, or done something other than bitch, perhaps you would have noticed that there's an "Enable ATRAC Playback" option in there. However, you are going to have to find it yourself (or, god forbid, google for the location) as something of an "idiot tax".

ATRAC option was turned on from day one that I received the PS3. The option, for your info, is for encoding your regular CD's onto the PS3 hard drive under ATRAC. Any more bright ideas? I tried creating an ATRAC CD and playing it on the PS3 without any luck. So, wise-ass John, looks like you opened your mouth and inserted you stinky foot into it.

Who cares. Give me HD movie downloads instead of trailers Sony!!!

forget this BD live garbage, being able to resume a blu ray disc after stopping it is a feature that's been long overdue. wish ps3 could do that with BDJ discs though.
