It's only just
turned three, but it looks like the PlayStation Portable is now at the center of new rumor mill concerning yet another possible revision, with this one sparked by Sony itself, no less. It doesn't come from an over-talkative exec or anything, however, but rather a curious placeholder image that was turned up on Sony's online instruction manual site. As PSP Fanboy reports, not only are there the expected images for the original PSP-1000 series and the slimmer PSP-2000 series, but there is one for a hereto unheard of 3000 series as well (no 4000 series, though). Of course, it's entirely possible that the image is nothing more than a mistake or the work of someone trying to be a little
too prepared, but we have a sneaking suspicion that won't stop the
speculation from spinning out of control.

Let there be Rumours!...
or if it's true..
I want one!..
But still too early.. IF (Note: Big 'IF') PSP 3000 is in the works (could be in initial stages) it won't be seen till 4th quarter of this year (in your/my hands)...
Thoughts?
Tony Rayo @ Mar 28th 2008 5:00PM
Well, I was going to buy a PSP-2000 so I could directly capture game footage (although it would still technically be analog > digital) and produce my own previews/reviews, but I might just sit on that for a couple of months. In the mean time it will give me a chance to figure out how to capture both video and stereo audio from a DS and/or DS Lite (if anyone has any information, including breaking apart the handheld itself PLEASE get in touch with me - I am well versed in electronics; specifically the PIC line of micro-controllers but don't know much about the DS/Handheld Platform in general). Thanks!
oshidori @ gmail dot com - subject "DS Capture" or something close to that.

With the "10 year cycle" the 3000 is gonna appear sooner or later.
Ken Kutaragi @ Mar 28th 2008 3:50PM
let me introduce the PSP Phone
.... with 2 HDMI ports!
NHAnimator @ Mar 28th 2008 3:53PM
They SHOULD be working on a 3000 series. You think they AREN'T working on a PS4 already? Sit on your laurels and you lose in this business.
(not really sure what laurels are, but whatever)
Anthony @ Mar 28th 2008 4:00PM
bushy tree thing. i wouldn't want reason on them either. probably pretty prickly.
Jon Doe. @ Mar 28th 2008 5:30PM
I don't think its their laurels that Sony is sitting on with the PS3.
Frankenstein Black @ Mar 28th 2008 3:55PM
PSP-3000 & 4000 = The PSP Phone. Just sayin ;^)...
Joe Anstine @ Mar 28th 2008 3:59PM
oh boy, another portable system to steal all the good titles away from the consoles. go suck an egg sony
peacebyanymeans (AKA: Moorio) @ Mar 28th 2008 4:05PM
Wait... what?
Tony Rayo @ Mar 28th 2008 4:53PM
First off, it's an update to an existing handheld and second, there is a LARGE difference between handheld and console titles. That's like saying an audiobook is stealing from a paperbook. No, in fact, it's even stupider than that.
thethirdmoose @ Mar 28th 2008 6:00PM
So if all the good titles are on handhelds, why not, ya know, play handheld games?
Arkweld @ Mar 28th 2008 4:05PM
the P-3000 series will be made of liquid metal than can change into the shape of other peripherals.
Unfortunately it will still only be able to morph one thumbstick.
mphayvanh @ Mar 28th 2008 4:13PM
Hahaha. Yea, please come with a 2nd analog stick for a decent FPS action for a change. Hate turning around like a turret in SOCOM and Syphon Filter.
PhilxBefore @ Mar 28th 2008 4:11PM
No no no. Thats not the P-3000 thats the T-1000!
Close though.
Arkweld @ Mar 28th 2008 4:31PM
T-1000 is old school and was defeated too easily.
Everything in the future gets smaller, even deadly assassin robots masquerading as portable gaming units with only one thumbstick.
You'll never see it coming.
Especially if it relies on swapping out UMDs for mission updates.
Rob @ Mar 28th 2008 4:09PM
WEll, take out the UMD player, sell your games via online using a pc or PS3. Use the UMD's space for a flash storage. Who cares anyway. I'm using the PSP-1000 and I'm pleased with it.
conor @ Mar 28th 2008 4:20PM

So wat i like my psp if a better one comes out ill mod my current one with an 80gb hard drive and get new one also
Sharakar @ Mar 28th 2008 4:41PM
psp 3000 is gonna use the apx 2500 and add 3 extra 400 mhz cores making it a quad core, it's gonna come with a touchscreen like all gadget's these days , it's gonna come with a blueray version umd just so it can suck more of that 4000mh battery it has. it's gonna be as thick as the first psp but it's gonna come with 2 ministicks or something kewl to replace em , + the kewlest thing it's gonna have is it's gonna play MKV videos
release date first quarter 2010
Tony Rayo @ Mar 28th 2008 5:01PM
Honestly I would probably buy it... comes out in less than 2 years and I have lots of mkv videos =).
Michael @ Mar 28th 2008 8:15PM
and then you woke up, and had to change your semen stained sheets
Christopher @ Mar 28th 2008 5:04PM
Ive seen one person suggest it, and one person jokingly suggest it so I hope other people who think the same will read this.
NO UPDATE TO THE PSP WILL HAVE 2 ANALOG STICKS, it will mean that games released using 2 sticks won't be work on older versions and it would mean that certain games wont work on a different version of the same device. It would be a hugely stupid idea.
Any actual successor to the psp (like a psp 2) might see this, but new versions of the original won't. It's not that it wouldnt be great to have 2 sticks, its that Sony can't really do it in anyway that wouldn't piss lots of people off.
Kyanges @ Mar 28th 2008 5:17PM
I'm not sure if this is really clear, but, I don't understand this position.
Why would games released for a "PSP-3000" really have to work on the PSP-1000 and 2000?
Sharakar @ Mar 28th 2008 5:18PM
U are absolutely correct, it's just that we are hoping psp 3000 is a typo for psp 2
Christopher @ Mar 28th 2008 5:21PM
Because this is not a new psp, its a revised version of the psp.
Are there games that work on the PSone, but not on the original playstation?
Are there games that work on the slimline playstation, but not on the original?
Are there games that work on the 80gb ps3, but not on the original 60gb one? (Although funnily enough, in terms of backwards compatability the oposite will happen soon)
The 3000 is to the 1000/2000 and the slimline ps2 is to the original ps2.
Kalen @ Mar 28th 2008 6:11PM
If it did ship with 2 analog sticks, then you could simply make newer games have the option to take advantage of 2 sticks. If it is running on the 1000 or 2000 then the option would not appear. But put it in a 3000 and it would. Like enabling a rumble or progressive scan feature.
I think Sony ate enough crap for not including 2 sticks in the first PSP. No sane person would make the same one twice...oh wait
zepheroth @ Mar 30th 2008 10:04PM
The psone relesed with no analog sticks.
Kyanges @ Mar 28th 2008 5:18PM
Ack, nevermind. I just understood your post a little more clearly.
Christopher @ Mar 28th 2008 5:22PM
Ah okay :)
kyle allen @ Mar 28th 2008 5:58PM

tekdroid @ Mar 28th 2008 11:11PM
3000 series mention and no mention of Sony locking down Pandora? I'm surprised :)
gabe @ Mar 29th 2008 3:22AM
How about just some more quality games sony?
forget about revisions
Valgas @ Mar 29th 2008 6:53AM

joe @ Mar 31st 2008 2:39AM
the psone had games that didnt support analong since it was a new technology, remember the old original playstation controls without the analogs???
Schfelzerberg @ Mar 31st 2008 12:54PM
They better have Gran Turismo 4 Mobile when this thing comes out. It's been forever...
