Treo 800w shows up on Sprint roadmap for July release
At this point the Treo 800w has been outed by Bill Gates himself, so while the suspense factor is pretty low, it's nice to know that it'll finally be getting here in July. That's the word according to this purloined Sprint roadmap, which also indicates the newest Treo will have GPS and EV-DO rev. A -- but still run WinMo 6.0, which is pretty sad, especially if that revised version of 6.1 launches at CTIA next week as expected. Oh well, at least it's a new Treo -- let's just hope they can shake some more ugly off this thing before it hits the street.

I think stole some blackberry style, in a good way. Much better than my Centro. That said I'm not interested in WinMo right now (or palmOS, for that matter) they should probably work more on their next OS iteration instead of releasing these mediocre phones.
Windows Mobile & Enterprise is a very important sector of the market for Palm. Their next gen OS won't be competing with RIM and MS but will be more consumer-orientated.
The release date is most likely June for business sales and phone orders, but July for stores.
The device *will* also sport WM 6.1 much like its GSM sister-device "Drucker" for Vodaphone (and the 750 is of course getting updated to WM 6.1 as per Microsoft).
It also appears to finally have a micro-USB adapter instead of Athena.
It says July, doesn't it?
July and Sprint and WinMo6 ! :( That means Dec for VZW. :( :( Which means July = AT&T for me with iPhone or any other new phone. VZW is becoming so antiquated. Of course with their new open door policy maybe I could buy the sprint phone and use it on VZW???
Is it just me, or is palm super boring: no innovation, failed platforms, old operating system... I mean, the least they could do is make the damn things a different color, like neon green or something...anything to shake things up because no matter how stable and reliable they may become, a gadget needs to have some pizazz.
It is running Windows Mobile 6.1? how is that an old operating system? I think Windows Mobile 6 is actually a really nice OS...I am running it on my Axim X51V...
@ Mic,
Understand that is not a "real" picture of the 800w but a photoshoped mock up to give a very rough idea.
Wait at least till you see some real photos before making a judgment on style. As of today there have been no live shots.
AFA "innovation", this *is* a device for business users, so it will be toned downed somewhat in style and features. Having said that, a front qwerty device with
- 320x320 resolution
- Wifi
- Rev A
- GPS
- WM 6.1
Is a solid device in terms of specs--there is nothing similar in offered in the U.S. now or planned.
Too clarify I did not mean to insinuate that Windows Mobile 6.1 is bad...To be honest I haven't had a chance to use it so I will reserve the right to opine on that topic later.
Additionally, my rant was meant as a commentary towards Palm in general...but, with that said, @Malatesta, business shmizness, neon green is the way to go ;)
Doesn't the att tilt offer all that.
A Blackberry 8830 Curve...interesting...8830 Curve, 8830 Curve, 8830 Curve, 8830 Curve...Haha, just checking.
Man it's been a long time coming, I hope they will make it thinner.
Treo's were great in their day, I'd like to see them make a comeback.
hmm, my sero plan expires this spring/summer, maybe Ill upgrade my 6700 to that :)
I am really looking forward to this. I just hope that it is a solidly built machine (my 750's bezel broke within a week). It seems to me that Blackberry hardware is so much more solid than the Palm. Wouldn't it be great if someone comes out with a WinMo device on a Blackberry chassis?
Take it with a grain of salt.
It says that it's replacing the 700w. Trouble is, Sprint never had the 700w, only the 700wx. Could be a typo on their part, but it's worth noting.
Sprint asking PIC to remove the image does lend it a little credibility, though.
Nope, it's real.
Palm Info Center had to pull the image b/c Sprint complained of copyright and the thread got deleted entirely at SprintUsers.com.
Plus this jives with other independent sources.
Looks like a interesting device depending on the final look and size. People that want a smaller phone then the mougle might like this device
I know for a fast that the 800WX will launch no earlier then 3rd week of June, it WILL include windows 6.1. I know this because I talk with Palm employees daily, as well as people from HTC and Samsung. I work for Sprint as a Phone and Data specialist; I get to test equipment before launch. Getting this phone by the end of May hopefully
Nice to finally see some real evidence of the Curve. Now to hoping they do one in black.
Windows Mobile Rocks.
It's amazing how they don't advertise all the things the phone can do like Apple does.
I don't want the phone to be in weird colors or flashy. It's a work phone.
