Looks like Apple's been passing around a new working version of the iPhone 2.0 beta firmware -- not too many changes since the
last release we saw, though. So far, from what we can tell the build is now officially 2.0 (before it was
registered as 1.2), the Cisco VPN settings got some tweaks, and the root-level mail / ActiveSync settings have been reshuffled a bit. We'll let you know if anything else pops up.
Update: Oh hey, Safari apparently has a YouTube plugin now!

Good thing this has already been "Pwned"...
Zorn @ Mar 30th 2008 5:44PM
Is this out there leaked on the internet in any fashion?
Rich @ Mar 30th 2008 5:48PM
Is this really worthy of Engadget and not just Engadget Mobile?
srw985 @ Mar 30th 2008 5:57PM
nothing else to read on a sunday
Homeboy @ Mar 30th 2008 6:18PM
My exact thought. Just when I thought we were going to have an Apple free Sunday this "news" pops up. This is clearly something highly insignificant which IMO belongs to Engadget Mobile
Seth @ Mar 31st 2008 12:37PM
People are just upset because they don't like reading about iPhone news because they don't own an iPhone.
Besides on a Sunday, even those "XBOX Live Is Down...AGAIN!" posts would entertain me.
CUBSWILLWIN @ Mar 30th 2008 5:54PM
Finally, news after 6 hours!
g33k @ Mar 30th 2008 6:17PM
go outside!
CUBSWILLWIN @ Mar 30th 2008 7:01PM
dude, in case my avatar and name don't give it away, I'm from Chicago. Know what's Chicago's nickname? Windy city. You know why? 'Cause it's pretty darn cold in times like MARCH!! :P Sorry, coudn't help it.
Robot Overlord @ Mar 30th 2008 10:54PM
actually, the nickname references the politicians, not the actual weather.
austin @ Mar 30th 2008 11:21PM
@ robot overlord-you took the words out of my mouth
devin.lieberman @ Mar 30th 2008 6:15PM
And I thought yesterday was a slow day :)
DaftFunk @ Mar 30th 2008 6:49PM
I've been coding for this for the iphone for about 3 months and I just succeeded in loading up a custom firmware for the iphone. It doesen't have call support but it does have built in emulation for snes/nes/gba/gbc and genesis. It's still in the alpha stages but heres a video of it in action

Backlin @ Mar 30th 2008 7:04PM
I've seen that URL plenty of times before bro.
YoJIMbo @ Mar 30th 2008 7:26PM
Wow, that is a great video of your Firmware inaction!
Sanchez @ Mar 30th 2008 9:12PM
Damn you, that's the third time today!
*note to self* "practise random link clicking restraint".
Abuzar @ Mar 31st 2008 12:18AM
Hah! I didn't see it. I LOVE tabs. I just clicked it with my center mouse button and in the Far corner it said Rick Rolled! I don't use my speaker for web browsing anyway, so the jokes on you!
Steffen Jobbs @ Mar 30th 2008 6:52PM
So this update doesn't have the "point-to-point transporter" firmware. That'll probably be included in the next update.
On a slow day, any news will do. Since it's Apple iPhone news, it's that much sweeter.
SARCASM ALERT!!!
Argelius @ Mar 30th 2008 6:59PM
Cool! Copy and Paste will be coming to the iPhone!!!!
Most excellent.
Oh, wait. Nevermind.
cookedart @ Mar 30th 2008 7:11PM
I've been told there's a YouTube browser plugin?
Jamma @ Mar 30th 2008 7:40PM
that's been there since release.....
In other news, I heard Blu-ray might win the format war...
cookedart @ Mar 30th 2008 7:57PM
I said Browser plugin, as in YouTube works within Safari.
Luigi193 @ Mar 30th 2008 8:32PM
You mean FLASH
Alan @ Mar 30th 2008 8:42PM
Erm not necessarily.. they could have done some H.264 code voodoo that lets the youtube video load inside safari like a quicktime video.
Tom @ Mar 30th 2008 9:41PM
No, but it already redirects youtube links to YouTube.app
Alan @ Mar 30th 2008 10:02PM
Yes I am aware that this is the current way it works. I'm not saying that this is true or even useful if it is, just that another site was reporting that a youtube safari plugin might be a supposed difference, and one that the original post did not outline (the title of the post, after all, suggests that there were few changes).
jonathan @ Mar 30th 2008 7:30PM
Why cant any of these leak already...I still cant get over that!! Apple must have this locked down pretty good.
dagamer34 @ Mar 30th 2008 10:15PM
Beta firmware comes with disabled phone features so that it users like you don't foolishly install it.
Shmalec @ Mar 30th 2008 7:35PM
apple sucks anyway
Abuzar @ Mar 31st 2008 12:19AM
Yeah, NO.
I personally don't use ANY Apple products, but still. They must have done something right to keep on going. I think Microsoft funded them for a while, but they came out of it.
Competition is good.
SOOPERGOOMAN @ Mar 30th 2008 7:45PM
We've become an updating society. ooh updates. lol
Crash Gordon @ Mar 30th 2008 11:57PM
Just to let those of you who want it leaked. first off they way it is installed and registered, at least the official version, it would be very difficult to leak due to the registration process required to install and activate it on your phone, plus from the sound of the apple docs if you try to install this on a non-registered iphone it will brick the phone.
second, its neat all the features are cool, but unless you are actually using it for development purposes it sucks right now. very unstable, contacts are messed up and the itunes restore is screwed up to. i suggest you just suck it up and wait.
plus why is this on here now? this came out days ago.
David @ Mar 31st 2008 1:20AM
so does anyone have a way of downloading it...like...now?
MJZimmer88 @ Mar 31st 2008 3:57AM
Yeah, you can download it here: __________
Oh wait, never mind, like everyone else alive, you still gotta wait.
Or you could freeze yourself. Careful not to get aids. I
MJZimmer88 @ Mar 31st 2008 3:58AM
*That last line should end with "I (heart) b00bs"
william @ Mar 31st 2008 6:56PM
can someone fucking leak this already?
i want enterprise wpa and activesync
Matthew Fleigle @ Apr 1st 2008 12:13PM
The firmware has leaked onto Bittorrent according to several iPhone blogs!
