Original content coming to Xbox 360
We were kind of wondering when it was finally going to happen: Microsoft's inked a deal with a production company to do original content for the Xbox 360. The licensed back catalog of stuff is good and all, but this would fill that niche in between Xbox 360's digital downloads and long-promised IPTV. No word yet on when it's coming, just that we can expect the usual compliment of Hollywood pap.

Original Content? On MY X/b/ox 360?!?!?!?!?
I see what you did there
It's more likely than you think.
In other news today: Original Content coming to 4chan!

NOT
Well it can't be a bandwagon without a caboose. Or something.

Haha.
The old /b/ used to be the home of original content.
Now even r9k is rubbish
ill download a game or two so i can take my hdd back and forth between my moms and dads. i hope theyll have kotor up soon.
What kind of original content? And how much? I could care less if we get a single show that isnt very good and that we still have to pay for. However, if we get almost an entire channel's worth of programming that doesnt cost much to watch, yay!
Good question. Probably low quality content. I say this based upon the fact that they (Xbox) still have not responded to my proposed idea of an episodic FPF (First Person Feline) XBLA game. Now that would be high quality entertainment!
If all they have to do is top the crap on TV today, they have a good chance for success.
OMG "Feline?" wtf furries!??
@zevdawg:
It would be the best d@mn content to ever hit XBLA. Think "Doom", but with claws, and catnip, and cat-fight matrix like camera rip-offs.
In the future, people will no longer say "but will it play DOOM?!?!" .... No, they will say, "but will it play... ummm... [insert title]". And they will say it with much more reverence. Trust me, dawg.
I thought BT had IPTV using the Xbox 360?
I think the video rentals right now are too short. I rented Michael Clayton on XBL and it expired in 24 hours.
Rent it again, it's worth the excess money, trust me.
You get 5 days to watch it, but once you start watching it, it expires in 24 hours of you watching it. Gotta love stupid DRM schemes.
Yeah, keep plugging in your site! One of us might click eventually!
XBO anyone? Not quite as good as HBO (is sometimes) but it beats getting reamed by your cable/sat provider!
Not available in all areas, general rules of sarcasm apply, fees vary based on location and quality or lack there of in content please contact your ISP or Microsoft for details
You still can't run your own code on the-- oh look! Another bone! Go fetch!
That's what computers are for, idiot.
Game consoles are computers, but I know for the sake of my life not to debate with /you/, Zorque.
To be quite honest, if I could buy the exact same hardware with no OS on it for twice the price, I would have no problem whatsoever with this.
As it stands, I cannot. If they're not going to provide a means for people to get the hardware with no restrictions, I don't think they should be allowed to take any action against people ripping through the restrictions they would otherwise put in place.
You should chande the article and the headline. I was confused the entire time till I just realized it was about movies or something.
Me too. The only thing that finally made me figure it out was the "Hollywood" thing, but at first I thought it was a dig on multi-platform games (which would be weird, considering all the 360 exclusives).
my thoughts exactly, i thought they were dissing the endless supply of shooters, like they turned into the onion for the day
I didn't "RTFA" and found out when I read your comment.
Stupid headline. Mention that its original shows/movies.
New shows made only to be released on the 360, I just can't see this being successful.
why cant we just have a game console without all the extra BS. drop the movies and all that "original content" crap and make more games, or more DLC, or both.
*ahem*Wii*ahem*...
Gosh, excuse me, I have a bit of a cough.
@AR
I hear what you mean but the days where all a console does is play games is coming to an end. Game's should be the focal point but I like flexibility in my console. If I can play games in addition to pictures, music, movies, DVR, Remote Play, Browse the web and even install Linux I will take that everyday over a system that just plays games. The 360 & PS3 have really turned themselves into full blown media hub's and have changed the way I look at consoles forever. The PS3 is especially a sophisticated piece of equipment that is the definition of "Jack Of All Trades"... As I said the day that a console just plays games is over... Before anyone throws the Wi out there, let me just say that in my opinion, the Wii is a slightly upgraded game cube (hardware wise) + waggle controls... The Wii is cheap in price but still overpriced in terms of feature comparisons, games and online components.
@ John,
The purpose of a game console is to have fun, and the Wii fulfills that criteria beautifully.
There have been a plethora of people who have never touched a console in their life because they hate video games, come in to play the Wii and absolutely love the playability, 5 of which I know who further invested in their own console.
I am sure there are others out there who have had similar experiences.
As far as the PS3 and 360 go, they are consoles for people who have played games since they were born.
Doing a comparison between a Wii and a PS3/360 is unjust as the target market is completely different, and by adding all the extra features the 360 is just trying to make a footprint into the ever growing market of the Wii
Well, let's hope it's some good content. The more the better. I hope they get even more movies on the marketplace... It has some pretty good ones that aren't in theaters, this should just add to it.
don't they already have this? I see a few games up from the original xbox now.
They are talking about exclusive video content and not games...I think ;0
Ok so it looks to be something like XBL only SNL/MadTV or SciFi originals only a 1/3 to 1/6 as long or duration and at best 1/2 as entertaining. I could see this really working out... oh who the hell am I kinding, I see this crashing out in a month tops.
I can understand 10 words in that comment so far.
Ryan is the only one on staff today??
LOL!
JAmerican
That's "complement."
This is probably a preemptive strike before Sony formally announces it's catalog of titles and digital distribution service model and is also probably being done to take away the announcement of Wii ware (even though WW is only for games as this point). Wether it's music, movies or podcasts I want the ability to actually own the content and not simply for rental purposes. Lastly, If Microsoft wants to push the entertainment issue with the 360 they need to create a larger capacity and affordable HDD or release a new SKU with a large capacity HDD and a Blu-Ray attachment or a built in Blu-Ray drive. I hope Sony and Nintendo take cues from the Live service and also improve upon a lot of it's issues.
Original content? *I* got yer original content right here (heh, heh!)
Could be something to it.

After playing RockBand and COD4 for a while yesterday, I thought we'd download a movie for the kids since the weather was crappy. Only movies that caught their eye were Meet The Robinsons and Ratatouille, both of which were 480 MS points, or $6 for a one time view. Ya know what? I don't mind dropping the $450 for the Elite, $60 for each game and even the $160 for the Rockband peripherals seem to me to be fairly enough priced. But, for some reason, spending $6 for a downloaded movie made me feel like I was getting ass-raped... come on M$. Make this stuff at least a bit more reasonable. You'll find you'll make MUCH more in volume! geesh
Is $6 for a movie really all that bad? A movie ticket costs $9.00 where I live for adults and $6.50 for kids. Ratatouille on Blu-Ray is $27. For me the question is, am I going to watch this movie more than 3 times on my HT setup? If not the download is just fine for me.
Not sure why you'd compare video rental charges to seeing a movie in a big screen theater?? I could rent the DVD for $3.50 at the local store or buy it outright for $14.99. $6 just for the 'convenience' of waiting for the 4+ GB download via XBox Live marketplace just ain't gonna cut it. Like I said, I'm definitely not one who has trouble parting with my money considering how much I've already dropped for all things XBox, but M$ is going to need to do better than socking folks 480pts for the trouble of downloading non-streaming content that goes away after it's viewed.
vague article alert!!!!
And the 2008 Award for the Most Vague Announcement goes to...
Oops - I just did. Oh, wait ... no I didn't. I punched myself in the forehead. That's what I did. Good luck with mylittleleaguecoachtouchedme.com!
