Palm Centro hits the magical one million mark
Palm's miniscule and wallet-friendly Centro has managed to reach one million units sold since its launch last September. It got its legs working as Sprint and AT&T's gateway smartphone at that fantastic $99 pricepoint, and now it's making a bid for world domination in major markets in Europe and Asia. The one million sales have it nipping at the heels of recent superstar smartphones, the two million plus HTC Touch and the four million plus iPhone, not bad company in the least.

BTW, my first PDA was Visor Deluxe (went through 3 of them). Then Palm m500, then m505, now I have a Zire 72 Special. I'm a big fan of the Palm OS. Hate windows mobile. As long as they keep the Palm OS, I will keep buying and using Palms.
It's utterly flopped in the UK...
If Verizon would offer it, it would be +1. I have three months to go before I can jump back to AT&T, and I'd rather stay with Verizon, since all my friends are on it as well.
Now if only Palm and its software provider ACCESS didn't suck so badly...
Now don't get me wrong - I've had a number of Palms over the years and, short of my only and only Treo (the 680. My WORST CELLPHONE. EVER), they did what I asked of them.
But build quality, customer support and general indifference towards their products, along with an OS and support software as now supplied by ACCESS that is either obsolete or a shadow of what it once was (see Palm Desktop), have so far dropped Palm in anyone's estimation of a quality product.
Once the de facto handheld OS, Palm now produces a product well behind marketshare leaders Symbian, RIM, Linux, WinMob and Apple.
$99 is cheap. In every regard.
I don't want Palm to go away. I am glad that they are selling this unit. But I must insist that they use better touch screen materials than they did in the PalmTX. I'm still using a unit with dead space in the upper left of the screen. It is annoying.
quick question, with sprint i can switch between phones by calling in and they switch everything without altering my contract can you do this with verizon as well
