Damn, Everex clearly stepped up their game with the Cloudbook MAX. Not that we want to harsh on the original Cloudbook or anything, but this thing is definitely in a different class -- and the integrated XOHM WiMAX doesn't hurt, either. Check out some hands-on shots taken at CTIA below.
Without a pricetag it's a bit premature to claim that Everex "stepped up their game". If it sells for $500-$600, it is just another low-end notebook and NOT a competitor in the race for the bottom.
Seeing that there's not many WIMAX enabled devices it might be a steep premium over the standard clouldbook, nevertheless this revision looks a lot better than the original.
I don't mean to bite...but exactly what part of it looks like a MacBook? The fact that it's BLACK? That the keyboard somehow doesn't use up the whole space across the laptop? The rest of the laptop has really nothing else in common with the MacBook other than ...standard components like having a chassis or hinge.
Good heavens! It has a HINGE! It's a MacBook ripoff!
From that angle yeah it kinda looks like a black macbook actually. The rounded bezel, the power button placement, the look of the keyboard, the track pad, camera. Im typing on a black macbook now and im just saying this guy has a point.
yeah, I just thought that they had the exact same shade of black and a similar texture. keV, I'm not saying it is a clone, but there are a couple of similarities between the two laptops.
I agree this looks quite nice and the specs are rather impressive...two things, however: can't say for sure, but I doubt the price will be on par with the eee, and secondly, why the space on the sides of the keyboard? People always say one of the main things holding them back from purchasing a ultra-portable is the tiny keyboard, so why not take advantage of ALL the space possible? hmmm...i guess we shall never know...

I agree with Scmitty... why still use the crappy little keyboard? This market really takes off when we can have a usable typing experience on these things.
Exactly! I could just sit about 5 rows back, flip this bad boy open and hit record, then catch up on the sleep I missed studying the night before. Then I could just review the lecture later in the day.
It makes you wonder why they released the original (sucky) one when they had this one waiting in the wings. Product design is not THAT fast- they had this thing in the final stages of design before they released the original cloudbook.
They have been selling the Cloudbook in Europe for a while under a different brand (Packard-Bell??), they probably just released it here to get rid of some overstock before this rendition dropped, is my guess.
Just slap the gOS on it and re-brand the bad boy, dump your remaining inventory and you're gold.
this looks good but it's gonna come down to price. if it's 400 im sold even though that's unlikely. I'll hold out til the competition drives these 9 inchers down to that level. Probably a lot of people in that boat.
This is definitely an improvement over the original, but honestly, a Via processor? Couple that with Vista and I don't really think this has much potential. What this needs is an Intel Atom and a custon Linux distro or Windows XP. I don't suppose it has the option of getting it without a windows license does it? If I didn't already have my heart set on the ECS G10IL I might consider one of thses.
I few good things to point out is that while it is Vista, it's Vista Home Basic, so not as taxing as Premium etc., also I think they may have planned on the using the Isaiah chips, which means they were counting them being available before production.
Since Isiah's aren't they are just using C7's until the Isaiah's do roll out, then they'll switch. That's my theory.
will it come bundled whit vista? at least I hope there will be an option to get it with Linux. better performance for sure and also (it should be) less expensive. I agree, i think that a via processor coupled with vista is not gonna give good experience for the user.
looks pretty good, looks like a serious eeepc killer, but... anybody knows how much will it cost?? i just hope they don't rise the price tag so much... like 9inch eeepc 500€?? too much at least for me one of the biggest thing about asus ninth wonder was its initial price tag, but now... will we see a 3rd gen eeepc at a price tag of 1000 bucks? no way man!!
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
i hope this isnt too expensive
That new Cloudbook is looking damn sexy
Kinda looked like an EEE but well, I hope it's cheaper!
And, If I may ask, is there an option on my profile to stop receiving comment emails when somebody replies because...

...my mailbox receives nothing else. I want to have an option at the profile so I can't keep forgetting to turn that off for every comment.
@ Aguiliz
Yeah, there's a box in the comment thing to uncheck. It's checked by default to have emails sent for each reply.
I might be wrong but... isn't the Everex logo upside down... Like when you open the screen/lid thing.. it's going to be upside down...

I hope you meant that ironically.
$300 and it's sold.
i like to dream too :)
Nice looking laptop, looks like it took a little from the 13" black macbook. I like it.

If this is 400-500$ then its over for the Asus Eee.
From fugly to awesome, but only if we had it now....
I wonder if it will gain the same following as the Eee in the mod community.
That's the beauty! What's left to mod? GPS, BT, WiFi, XOHM, I mean all you really would need other than that is EV/DO or HSDPA inside.
This is my next computer.

NOOOOOOOAAAHH!!!! Double comment!
in the words of the 'little guy' in the Japanese Mafia: "Your apologies puh-lees" *bow*
Sorry to ask, Ryan: Is this an April Fools joke?
yea .. wtf.
where's our april fools post?
you guys are no fun .. even google had one today.
http://www.google.com/virgle/index.html
it looks much better, but I'm wondering if that Via processor is enough.
I agree with Scmitty... why still use the crappy little keyboard? This market really takes off when we can have a usable typing experience on these things.
It's everything the current Cloudbook should have been.
I LOVE that camera on the outside of the lid. Man that could be awesome for lectures.

Also, classes before 8:00 AM suck donkey schlong.
I've been wondering when another insanely generic looking laptop was going to come out, it's been a whole day since the last one.
I like it. Clean, simple... Looks like it has a nice finish on it. Sexy.
damn. looks head and shoulders above the first one
LOL, when I saw the word cloud, I thought light and thin... Then I also thought, is everything gonna like like a MacBook Air now?
Anyways pretty nice laptop!
I will take this exact device(and the same specs) in the 7in form factor please.
via c7m is trash. it needs an intel atom....

price or gtfo
I'm not a racist, that's what's so insane about this.

Now this is what an ultraportable suppose to look like!!!
Does anybody know XOHM working frequency and spectrum? I guess it's 2.5 Ghz... I googled but found nothing.
Want.
If it comes out in white too, it'd be the sex.
They finally got the form factor right this time...
