David Beckham gifted with gilded iPod touch for 100th England cap
Despite Becks' prior troubles with über-geeky car thieves, we're fairly certain the LA Galaxy midfielder still has a soft spot in his heart for technology. And even if he doesn't, we're confident there's a nook in there for precious metals. Reportedly, Mr. Beckham has been gifted with a gilded iPod touch (the top-end 32GB model, no less) by his English teammates after participating in his 100th appearance for the national club. Word on the street has it that the golden touch only set the squad back £600 ($1,188), which isn't too shabby considering the £329 ($651) sticker on the vanilla version.

For that price they should have waited for the 64GB version at year-end.
$1000 gift? To Beckham, that's like getting five bucks.
It's the thought that counts.
Hey, from the bright side, I guess you really CAN polish a turd!
God I hate that tosser....Nice iPod though
Are you an American?
No I'm English. What's your point?
Americans rarely ever use clever insults like 'tosser' I think that'd make it obvious he wasnt.
Also, hasnt this tosser gotten enough in his life, now he needs a F***en gold ipod?
what american do you know that uses the word tosser to describe a football player?
wow you beat me to it!
Agreed.
+1 Jamma - AGREE!
British here too, shame that we got no Euro cup this year. Thanks a lot to what's his name.
God save the queen!
I'm Canadian and I can't stand this uncious, persnickety, pretentious asshole too. And his Marie Antoinette'ish wife.
Cmon, you know you'd tap that =P Posh, not David.
Tom, I didn't know there was a British team :p
ENGLAND! okay?
Davids achievements > Yours.
kthxbye
I thought the conversation was about David Beckham, not Edgar Davids
I'd love to jam that gold brick down that fugly annoying limey's throat.
where do i sign up?
It actually looks quite nice, compared to the usual gold-clad devices.
You should have ended that comment with an ellipsis for comic effect.
E.g.
...
They should have saved the extra cash and paid it to someone to show him how to actually use it, he's probably still trying to peel the golden foil wrapper off to get at the chocolate bar underneath.
You're thinking of Wayne Rooney, not Beckham.
No, Wayne wouldn't have tried taking the wrapper off before biting into it.
Rooney's a scouse, he would have just had someone steal the iPod (and the chocolate bar) for him ...
Touché.
You made me laugh so hard I snorted.
@AT: no, Rooney's a scouse, he'd just steal it himself.
In other completely unrelated news, Becks can't seem to find his new iPod Touch...
HA i laughed so hard to your comment. I almost snorted too.
Why is it that already rich people get uber-fancy gifts? Like the Oscar gift baskets?
Rich people usually have rich friends.
because when your rich you socialize with other rich, likewise for the poor and the middle class. why is this a surprise?
Because companies want frat boys to say:
"Dude! That David guy from Europe is so cool, me wantz a golden iPod as a graduation gift from my father in law."
Gold? as if that thing wasn't a scratch magnet already...
i wonder if he will jailbreak his new ipod.
I wonder if he even knows what that means!
You can't buy publicity like this!
Well, actually Apple can, safe in the knowledge that some Mac-worshipping sites will faithfully republish this bit of pointless schleb tittle-tattle as 'tech news.'
I know a lot of people dislike David Beckham, but I saw him last night on Leno and he seemed like a nice guy. Other than the fact that he's probably a better soccer player than any of you who dislike him, what's your beef against him?
Nice iPod touch, by the way.
A nice guy he may be, but for a professional footballer (and yes, it is football) he is so heavily overrated you would not believe.
He gets his 100th cap, the British media won't shut up about it, and he isn't even that good a player. If he was any good, he wouldn't be at LA Galaxy, that's for sure
If you support an MLS team, and he's not on your team, then that's what you have against him. I'm not a "fan" of people who aren't on my team, and what's worse, is when he comes to your town every gloryhunting prick around you at the match has his shirt on. So much for their idol when the Galaxy come to New York and are sent home losers.
"he is so heavily overrated you would not believe."?
Well, that just makes him a perfect match for the ipod touch than... no? :P
Pele must have sucked too, since he ended up on MLS... Beckham is not overrated, in his prime he was one of the best freekickers and passers around and hes still very good. Henry may end up in MLS sooner than people think too, the rumor is that he will be in Seattle next year. People always give famous players a hard time when they get older, just look at what happenned to Ronaldo, he is still an extremely good player and great scorer when given the chance but just because he isnt as good as he used to be everyone labels him as crap.
No, Beckham was never as good as he was made out to be - his worth was over-exagerated because of how marketable he is/was. Real Madrid bought him more so they could sell strips with Beckham written on them than for anything he could do with a football.
That's not to say he was talentless, far from it. But there are more talented footballers out there who aren't nearly as famous or as big a global brand as Beckham was (or possibly still is, I'm not sure).
And no, playing for an MLS club is not a sign that you're over-rated, just that you're past the point when you could expect to play for a decent club.
The same was true for Pele, he was at the end of his career and the Cosmos (I think that was the team he played for) offered him a huge amount of money, it would've been idiocy not to say yes.
There are other players better that don't get the attention? Welcome to sports. Being overrated isn't really his fault, is it? And he's extremely good. Sure, he's not in his prime anymore, but have you ever scored from midfield? The guy's genuinely a nice guy, loves his kids and his wife, and isn't getting busted for carrying a gun or beating up a reporter or any of these other things most American sports "heroes" are getting nailed for. He's a great role model, and I'm glad he's over here playing for MLS. We need the boost in visibility and popularity.
No, he's not going to save the Galaxy, but then, I'm not sure even Jesus could do that.
I have to admit, that's very classy looking.
Don't you think this billionaire could have bought his own golden ipod had he wanted one?
I just know what he's thinking, "what, no diamonds?"...
It's the thought that counts.
The THOUGHT that counts?!?!?
If anyone in the England was able to think, they wouldn't give Beckham his 100th cap in the first place
Hot sexy tools go well together..
“For those who hoard up gold and silver and do not spend it in Allah's way, announce to them a painful chastisement. On the day when it shall be heated in the fire of hell, then their foreheads and their sides and their backs shall be branded with it; this is what you hoarded up for yourselves, therefore taste what you hoarded.”
