David Beckham gifted with gilded iPod touch for 100th England cap
Despite Becks' prior troubles with über-geeky car thieves, we're fairly certain the LA Galaxy midfielder still has a soft spot in his heart for technology. And even if he doesn't, we're confident there's a nook in there for precious metals. Reportedly, Mr. Beckham has been gifted with a gilded iPod touch (the top-end 32GB model, no less) by his English teammates after participating in his 100th appearance for the national club. Word on the street has it that the golden touch only set the squad back £600 ($1,188), which isn't too shabby considering the £329 ($651) sticker on the vanilla version.

For that price they should have waited for the 64GB version at year-end.
$1000 gift? To Beckham, that's like getting five bucks.
It's the thought that counts.
Hey, from the bright side, I guess you really CAN polish a turd!
God I hate that tosser....Nice iPod though
Are you an American?
No I'm English. What's your point?
Americans rarely ever use clever insults like 'tosser' I think that'd make it obvious he wasnt.
Also, hasnt this tosser gotten enough in his life, now he needs a F***en gold ipod?
what american do you know that uses the word tosser to describe a football player?
wow you beat me to it!
Agreed.
+1 Jamma - AGREE!
British here too, shame that we got no Euro cup this year. Thanks a lot to what's his name.
God save the queen!
I'm Canadian and I can't stand this uncious, persnickety, pretentious asshole too. And his Marie Antoinette'ish wife.
Cmon, you know you'd tap that =P Posh, not David.
Tom, I didn't know there was a British team :p
ENGLAND! okay?
Davids achievements > Yours.
kthxbye
I thought the conversation was about David Beckham, not Edgar Davids
I'd love to jam that gold brick down that fugly annoying limey's throat.
where do i sign up?
It actually looks quite nice, compared to the usual gold-clad devices.
You should have ended that comment with an ellipsis for comic effect.
E.g.
...
They should have saved the extra cash and paid it to someone to show him how to actually use it, he's probably still trying to peel the golden foil wrapper off to get at the chocolate bar underneath.
You're thinking of Wayne Rooney, not Beckham.
No, Wayne wouldn't have tried taking the wrapper off before biting into it.
Rooney's a scouse, he would have just had someone steal the iPod (and the chocolate bar) for him ...
Touché.
You made me laugh so hard I snorted.
@AT: no, Rooney's a scouse, he'd just steal it himself.
In other completely unrelated news, Becks can't seem to find his new iPod Touch...
HA i laughed so hard to your comment. I almost snorted too.
Why is it that already rich people get uber-fancy gifts? Like the Oscar gift baskets?
Rich people usually have rich friends.
because when your rich you socialize with other rich, likewise for the poor and the middle class. why is this a surprise?
Because companies want frat boys to say:
"Dude! That David guy from Europe is so cool, me wantz a golden iPod as a graduation gift from my father in law."
Gold? as if that thing wasn't a scratch magnet already...
i wonder if he will jailbreak his new ipod.
I wonder if he even knows what that means!
You can't buy publicity like this!
Well, actually Apple can, safe in the knowledge that some Mac-worshipping sites will faithfully republish this bit of pointless schleb tittle-tattle as 'tech news.'
I know a lot of people dislike David Beckham, but I saw him last night on Leno and he seemed like a nice guy. Other than the fact that he's probably a better soccer player than any of you who dislike him, what's your beef against him?
Nice iPod touch, by the way.
A nice guy he may be, but for a professional footballer (and yes, it is football) he is so heavily overrated you would not believe.
He gets his 100th cap, the British media won't shut up about it, and he isn't even that good a player. If he was any good, he wouldn't be at LA Galaxy, that's for sure
If you support an MLS team, and he's not on your team, then that's what you have against him. I'm not a "fan" of people who aren't on my team, and what's worse, is when he comes to your town every gloryhunting prick around you at the match has his shirt on. So much for their idol when the Galaxy come to New York and are sent home losers.
"he is so heavily overrated you would not believe."?
Well, that just makes him a perfect match for the ipod touch than... no? :P
Pele must have sucked too, since he ended up on MLS... Beckham is not overrated, in his prime he was one of the best freekickers and passers around and hes still very good. Henry may end up in MLS sooner than people think too, the rumor is that he will be in Seattle next year. People always give famous players a hard time when they get older, just look at what happenned to Ronaldo, he is still an extremely good player and great scorer when given the chance but just because he isnt as good as he used to be everyone labels him as crap.
No, Beckham was never as good as he was made out to be - his worth was over-exagerated because of how marketable he is/was. Real Madrid bought him more so they could sell strips with Beckham written on them than for anything he could do with a football.
That's not to say he was talentless, far from it. But there are more talented footballers out there who aren't nearly as famous or as big a global brand as Beckham was (or possibly still is, I'm not sure).
And no, playing for an MLS club is not a sign that you're over-rated, just that you're past the point when you could expect to play for a decent club.
The same was true for Pele, he was at the end of his career and the Cosmos (I think that was the team he played for) offered him a huge amount of money, it would've been idiocy not to say yes.
There are other players better that don't get the attention? Welcome to sports. Being overrated isn't really his fault, is it? And he's extremely good. Sure, he's not in his prime anymore, but have you ever scored from midfield? The guy's genuinely a nice guy, loves his kids and his wife, and isn't getting busted for carrying a gun or beating up a reporter or any of these other things most American sports "heroes" are getting nailed for. He's a great role model, and I'm glad he's over here playing for MLS. We need the boost in visibility and popularity.
No, he's not going to save the Galaxy, but then, I'm not sure even Jesus could do that.
I have to admit, that's very classy looking.
Don't you think this billionaire could have bought his own golden ipod had he wanted one?
I just know what he's thinking, "what, no diamonds?"...
It's the thought that counts.
The THOUGHT that counts?!?!?
If anyone in the England was able to think, they wouldn't give Beckham his 100th cap in the first place

I believe Allah likes the ipod touch. For David 72 virgins. 72 *more* virgins.
David Beckham likes shiny metal objects...like his robo-wife Victoria as an example.
Todd, what was the point of that?
i like how you didnt note what "allah's way" was, and how this did not follow it
maybe because its too vague to define.. and therefore, has no meaning?

Unrelated but...
WHERE'S THE MAGENTA BACKGROUND!?
Coincidentally Ryan Block hasnt been posting lately!
I'm a Galaxy fan. Have been since their inception. I was thrilled to learn Becks was coming to us. Then, he gets hurt. Then, he travels back and forth, back and forth. Then, the rest of the team (Donovan included) stinks up the whole joint. So, yeah, enjoy the iPod, becks. That's gonna be the highlight of your year.
/not bitter at all...
Forgive me for my ignorance on soccer terms.... but what the fuck is a cap?
Nice iPod though.
I think it means he took a bullet for the queen. I could be wrong.
It's when a player plays an international game with England. Don't know about other countries. Beckham has played 100 international games with England.
A cap is appearing in a match for your country ...
A cap is a type of hat.
primetime4 that is superb. Thank you for brightening my day.
primetime4 you made my day. That was hilarious.
I want that!
Nice!! They should give the whole team MP3 players for inventing the game and not even being able to quality into the Euro cup... but we have Ipods, woooo
But Italy (tips:Calcio) is in the Eurocup
;-)
Damn right, forza Azzuri.
You know the best part?
Any progress England makes with its national teams, they owe it all to their Italian coach. LOL
oh noes!... another (useless&overpriced crap) fancy beckham product.
I would have returned it with a note that it should have been an iPhone.
Is one's sense of style inversely proportional to the amount of capital one possesses?
cor David, can I ave that coz it'll look really good in me big range rover wiv all de fancy stuff Ive had put in.. fanks.. Posh..
To all those people talking about how he's an asshole and a dick and blah blah blah when you've never met him, I work at one of the place's he's been to before, which I won't mention, and he and his family, especially the kids, were extremely polite and quite friendly. He apparently has a lot of class. People who don't deal with celebrities much often have the worst assumptions. Some may not be that nice, that's true, but I've met a fair deal who are quite pleasant and on the whole, very ordinary.
Frankly I just think of him as a football player, which renders him pretty low on the scale. The few interviews I saw of him, he comes across pretty low, frankly so low, I could count his answers which used more as 3 words on one hand, maybe two if the interview was 30 minutes short. And when he does answer properly, which I have to say again, happens maybe once or twice in your lifespan, he speaks like a uneducated bum from the streets.
But, yeah those were interviews and I've not met him in person, he left a mark one me tho, either he is really really camera shy or a perfect specimen of a football player as basically all of them are retards more or less and don't know what they speak of when they open their mouths. Can't blame them, most of them are so or so school drop-outs, with diplomas and what not thrown at them once they score 20 goals. Fame & fortune can't fix stupidity, not even a honorable diploma.
Becks and Victoria what a pair of self liking bas===ds we in the UK call them affected, Bend It Like Beckham you would have to to get up a skinny cow like her but would want to.
never rated him as a footballer Man U was well rid of him i am pleased he has gone to the USA to play and stays there and with any luck he will never get another cap for the UK we are well rid of the pair.
He could never make up his mind if he wanted to be a model or footballer.
Jamma that was not nice we English are good thinkers
On a side note, if i were to be paid millions to play a sport that i like who cares about the diplomas/degrees and stuff like that... but thats just me =|
rick roll warning
David Beckham — noun.
Someone tired of English people criticizing him for accepting a better deal by calling them a tosser
Tosser — noun.
1. Someone who tosses things
2. English colloquialism for someone who masturbates, which makes sense, because tossing somehow relates to masturbating and no English man masturbates, ever
Americans putting down English people who try to use English slang terms that don't make sense, such as "wank" and "limey" — the law

@ helloUser
That's clever?
@ ALL
Seriously, Uncious? Persnickety? Limey?
The Scarlet Pimpernel called; he wants their vocabulary back, you damn dirty fops.
Totally missed the reply button.
Or maybe Opera isn't cooperating with Engadget. That's probably the case.
As I understand the article is mostly about player’s design and the opportunity to customize it. Well, even like Beckham, if you have lots of bucks you can afford some thing extraordinary like that. But it’s still just a player… I think it’s too much. I have my Sansa Fuze well it doesn’t have gold and signature but it’s mine and THAT makes my player unique….
When I got my Sansa Fuze at http://go.shopsansa.com/ i didn't think about golden cover.....
