DualShock 3 to shake the US next week
We'd been hearing that the DualShock 3 wasn't supposed to land until April 15th, but apparently Sony decided that getting gamers good and buzzed couldn't wait until Tax Day -- the official PlayStation Blog says the vibration-enabled controllers will hit US stores next week. There's a new DS3-compatible logo for rumble-compatible games, and quite a few titles will be getting updates to support the new controller. Everyone got their $55 together? Sweet, now all we need is an early release of MGS4. [Via PS3 Fanboy]

Only Sony can pull this off. Not only do they remerge technology from my puberty years, they do it in such a fashion that will make you think that Sony rocks. 55$? Sony is 100 years ahead of men, damn you!!!
Cahlito @ Apr 2nd 2008 1:46PM
I see what you did there
Hooterman @ Apr 2nd 2008 1:48PM
i don't :(
Daniel @ Apr 2nd 2008 1:57PM
Yeah...only Sony can pull this off...
Nintendo would never charge $59.99 ($5 MORE) for that Infrared Glorified Mouse-Pointer and not-so-analog stick that they call innovative
NHAnimator @ Apr 2nd 2008 2:03PM
Huh huh. You said 'puberty'.
Yankees368 @ Apr 2nd 2008 1:50PM
So where can I sign up for the "Sony Six-Axis to DualShock 3" exchange program?
tom @ Apr 2nd 2008 1:55PM
Ya right! Wait for Sony to send you a roll of duct tape and two vibrators - SIXAXIS Special edition.
Abuzar @ Apr 2nd 2008 2:12PM
I'll take the vibrators.
Jack Storm @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:26PM
yeah how come the SIXAXIS didnt go on Engadget's Deathwatch??
FrankTheCrank @ Apr 2nd 2008 1:50PM
Welcome back!
Jordan @ Apr 2nd 2008 1:53PM
Finally! Geez...
kyoseki @ Apr 2nd 2008 2:29PM
I picked up a Dual Shock 3 on ebay for a whole $2 more than the retail price of these things, aside from some much needed heft (the SIXAXIS is WAY too light) there really isn't anything to get too excited about here.
tom @ Apr 2nd 2008 1:53PM
I officially declare the retirement of my SIXAXIS controller!
LOL @ Apr 3rd 2008 12:14AM
I'll sell it instead. Probably some stupid person will buy it.
LOL
Kiwi616 @ Apr 2nd 2008 1:55PM
They should have priced the new one at $40 and the old one at $25.
I am still holding on to my 4 PS2 remotes and waiting for a NEW Pelican adapter to make use of them. Anyone know of any???
tyler @ Apr 2nd 2008 1:56PM
I've got my $55.
NHAnimator @ Apr 2nd 2008 2:05PM
At $55, that 80GB-DS3-MSG4 package for $500 is looking like a good deal.
Cal @ Apr 2nd 2008 2:09PM
Darn last gen technology...
Flashpoint @ Apr 2nd 2008 2:11PM
I've been waiting for the new PS3 SKU with the DS3. I doubt its price will be higher than the 360 Elite.
holycow @ Apr 2nd 2008 2:11PM
Lets get Ready to RUMBLEEEE!
Abuzar @ Apr 2nd 2008 2:13PM
It can rumble, but it sure as hell can't surface!
Lowest Ranked @ Apr 2nd 2008 2:13PM
I still don't see why they didn't just launch with these in the first place.
But then again it makes sense:
Wii - Accelerometer/ Rumble/ Wireless
Xbox 360 - No accelerometer/ Rumble/ Wireless
PS3 (Sixaxis) - Accelerometer/ No Rumble/ Wireless
It seems it was too much to stuff 2 thumbsticks and 10 buttons (Xbox & PS3) into a rumbling wireless controller. So you sacrifice one for the other. Wii got all three but with the lack of thumbsticks and less buttons.
Hmm
Jonathan-DBOSS @ Apr 2nd 2008 9:36PM
Highest Ranked!
Flashpoint @ Apr 2nd 2008 2:14PM
There are some games already on the market that support DS3 such as Vegas 2. I wonder how many older PS3 games support it? I only hope SONY was smart enough to build it in at the development stages of the games knowing that this day was coming.
This reminds me of the days when the original Japanese singular shock controller came out and I had to wait for the US DS to be released on PS.
Jay @ Apr 2nd 2008 2:33PM
If you read the article, you can see the link to the full list of games supporting DS3....
Jake @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:34PM
but no rumble support for call of duty 4...
shitfuck.
mr_e @ Apr 2nd 2008 2:27PM
Is the $55 only for new tmobile lines of service or does my existing line qualify me?
Eddie @ Apr 2nd 2008 2:34PM
Welp now I just have to wait for a bundle. No 6axis for me please :\
nathan.wong @ Apr 2nd 2008 2:35PM
Its about frickin' time!
Californian @ Apr 2nd 2008 2:37PM
Does anyone know if it will be available in white? And when are they coming out with a white 80gb PS3 ANYWHERE? *Then* (and only then) I will buy a second PS3 so that I can play myself in Call of Duty 4 and get rank 55 prestige 10 in a few weeks instead of the 20 years it will take me at the rate I am going (yes, I actually nerdily calculated it out).
brett @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:06PM
here's a simple solution, versed as a haiku for your convenience:
colorware can make it white
buy a bigger drive
(never said it would be free)
NHAnimator @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:11PM
@Californian: Very sad.
@Brett: Very clever.
kultyper @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:31PM
you can import a white one from Japan
Alex @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:57PM
Oh, the marvels of Dulux paint...
(Black ones look better anyhow)
Californian @ Apr 2nd 2008 4:33PM
Actually the white 40gb models only have 2 usb ports and no memory card etc. readers. That's why I would like an 80gb model. I would probably upgrade the hard drive anyway (for videos and games and such). But does the DS3 come in white?
Daniel @ Apr 2nd 2008 5:12PM
@ brett
haiku(plural) are 5-7-5 :P
brett @ Apr 2nd 2008 6:50PM
you are correct, sir
hard to think clearly while drugged
commence low ranking...

Yeah but I don't know if I want to wait for shipping. I guess I'll have to though.

Glad to help. :)
rhcpsfan @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:17PM
so will the ps3 40 and 80 gb models now be bundled with this instead of the siaxis, or is sony going to bine you and make you buy another controller?
rhcpsfan @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:18PM

Hey, it looks like the release is 4/4/08!
ebgames has pre-orders, and ships on friday.
http://www.ebgames.com/browse/search.aspx?N=0&Ntk=TitleKeyword&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntt=dualshock
heartday @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:36PM
buy.com has it for $49.99 with free shipping
nairdasti @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:46PM
The problem with Budget shipping is that they wait 3-5 days to send out your order. I had this problem with a Wii back in the day. By the time they get around to shipping the thing you ordered, it's out of stock and you're out of luck. So for the 5 bucks you save, it's not exactly your best bet.
Mickel @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:37PM
$55!!!! Oh well, I guess that's not to bad. Maybe i'll get one so I can play COD4 split screen, or have a hot standby.
giedrys @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:44PM
GT5 Prologue is supported! Listen Sony, how about a bundle for U.S. with DS3 and GT5P:

hokie1745 @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:45PM
55 dollars for something they should have integrated in the first place.. i dont think so.. also the controller pales in comparison to the xbox controller anyway.. seriously its been 10 years since the first dualshock introduced and all they could do was copy Nintendo with the sixaxis and change R2 to feel like a trigger, and then you dont even use that to shoot anyway in games. Sorry this controller lags far behind in ergonomics. They should just stop being lazy and realize that their stupid controller is not god and maybe it needs some improvements. Sony has gotten cocky and thinks people will just buy the PS3 cuz they owned a PS2. Think again fools, the only exclusive thing they have that is worthwhile is MGS4. Which should be awesome but one game doesnt make a system.
nairdasti @ Apr 2nd 2008 4:00PM
The PS3 isn't just about gaming. Neither is the 360. However, the ps3's got Blu-Ray under it's belt, and it's phenomenal on a 1080p screen. Sony's banking on making the ps3 a home-entertainment center as well as a gaming machine.
The 360's controller is exactly the same as a ps3! the colors are different, sure, but you have 2 joysticks, a d-pad, 4 triggers *(in whatever layout) and a middle "Game" button. Ergonomics? my big hands wrap around it quite nicely, thank you.
