Hey Samsung, can you also give these to HP so they can put it in their 2133? Thanks.
why don't you just buy a regular laptop if you need that much space?
It is good if not April fool only
Thomas, I love your story titles!
Now I know that I need some coffee. I looked at your post and read "I love your story titties!" :(
Can already get 500 gb HDD @5400 or 250 @7200 from Zepto
How about a press release saying they missed a deadline...I thought they liked press conferences...

Here is the official press release from March 4th, when they said that they have started shipping:

Thank you for bringing this up!
I've been putting off an upgrade with a 2.5" 320GB by westetn digital but decided to wait for the samsung instead since it was supposed to be available by the end of March!
Only thing about Samsung is I havent had good luck with their reliability...maybe they have improved.
mmm, would be nice to have one inside my macbook! I'd love to see cheaper and bigger SSD's though...maybe in 2010 :-/
"Samsung is notorious for issuing world's first, biggest, pinkest"
speaking of pink,
where did all the eye burning pink/purple background go??? i was almost getting used to it!
Sometimes enough is enough, before overdoing it.
Just typical
Yes, update please, my PS3 is dying to know the release date...
Mine too! I was literally checking out with a 320 gb hdd from newegg when I heard news of this Samsung!
With all these mandatory installs for PS3 games (not to mention music/video files and possible DVR service coming) the extra space is going to be crucial!
Hey, G-Tech also past due on their 500MB mini and 1TB raid mini. Shame. :) Perhaps too busy merging with Fabrik.
I literally just bought a 320gb hdd today. I'd feel some buyers remorse, but I'm guessing these things will be expensive as shit at first. Maybe in the future I'll swap in the 320 as my OS drive and the 500 as my gaming/data drive.
Props to John V. You're not the only one mate. Ive been scanning the web daily trying to track down this bloody thing...New-egg say they have 'no information on when'... lets hope Samsung hears this.... Whats that horrible looking Buffalo 500gb 2.5" external carrying? Is that the 12.5mm high drive? SO not this...?
very nice of you to say, it is May 19 and I still can't order this drive
I live in the U.S. and need to go work in India...needless to say I'm not content with a USB drive...
I hope another manufacturer ships this first so I an diss Samsung again
Checked ZipZoom, their prices are around $360 but they don't have the drives in stock yet. Yeah, I'm cool with waiting for now.
Seriously? Who cares? 500gb? I have a 120gb and it's barely 60% used. Sure I'd consider a 300 maybe, but what I want is some damn speed. Forget storage space... most of my users are at less than 80gb of actual data. SPEED, SPEED, SPEED. Storage is not what's need right now.
Yea, seriously. I bet if you clear your IE5 cache, you'll get a bunch of mroe free space too. (Those porn movies are big!)
I use a laptop for work, and I can tell you that I can think of plenty of things that I would put in a 500gb hard drive. Virtual Machines are 30gb each, i have 10 on an external hard drive. I would like to keep a norton ghost backup of my primary hard drive in case I decide to click on nip_slip_oops.jpg.exe by accident, etc.
mate not everyone is like u
i had a 80gb hdd in my last laptop and i had 20gb free for a very long time.. deleting all useless stuff..
then i got a macbook with 250gb hdd for christmas (thats about 3 months ago) and ive been looking for a 320 gb hdd for about a month because i have 5 gb left and i deleted everything i dont need..
so id say some people care ;)

Why?
stupid Sammy, doubt SONY can bring the LED TV,
see wut happens now~
Samsung, Toshiba, Fujitsu and Hitachi always announce these 2.5" hard drives for laptops that supposedly increase laptop capacity but they never seem to ship when they promise. It seems that only Western Digital ships what it promises when it promises, or slightly late. Samsung is nortorious for making press announcements that never materialize or when if and they do, its too little too late. By the way, where is Seagate in all this??
The best news so far on this is that Hitachi is ACTUALLY shipping their 500GB drive, and it really is below $300! The catch of course is that it's 12.5mm.
Yeah, Samsung so let me down, too. I waited forever for them.
Currently I have a laptop and an external drive, but with 500GB inside I could have everything conveniently in my laptop.
Yeah not everyone is the same fella, for example I'm a record producer and since I use a lot of software to compose my music on, its a pain having to bring an external harddrive to a studio or to another producers place when I want to work - I mean I can cope with it and at best its a minor convenience but a 500gb laptop drive would be the perfect solution.
What am waitig for is a 512 gb SSD without the failures we've been hearing about in the past few weeks. now that would be one hell of a storage solution.
And a little more truth...
ok this is an earlier press release - perhaps its a little more honest though?
