Nyko shipping its Rock Band / Guitar Hero III compatible PS3 wireless guitar
While we fully support a baseless and antagonistic war between Rock Band and Guitar Hero III fanboys, Nyko has those profit margins to worry about. The new Front Man wireless guitar for the PS3 works with both games, and can be switched via that fancy red stomp box. Wireless range is about 25 feet, and you can get about 80 hours of rock out of the thing before you need to swap the batteries. You know, the batteries of rock and roll. Too bad the guitar costs $60, what most retailers are charging for the first party controllers.

I was going to buy this too. Woohoo first comment
ace_spades @ Apr 5th 2008 11:55AM
so? its cheaper than buying 1 guitar hero guitar AND 1 rock band guitar
Darwin @ Apr 5th 2008 11:56AM
And HELLOOOOO, it comes with a friggin' foot switch, how cool is that!
Azayzel @ Apr 5th 2008 11:57AM
Sounds sweet! Hopefully they don't have the same issue with the strumbar going all wacky and not being responsive as the original guitar shipped with Rock Band. You're right though, it is a bit pricey for an after-market knock-off, but I guess we have the little switch and can use with both games... maybe.

The Wii version is $49.99 @ Amazon and is the highest ranking item in Video Games as of this post http://amazon.com/gp/movers-and-shakers/videogames

honestly, i'd have been a lot less bitter about the PS3 RB guitar dongle if it were integrated into a stompbox that activated overdrive. that would have been cool.

The only thing that sucks about this guitar is that I can't play it with my teeth, behind my back, whilst it's set on fire.
....
On second thoughts, that may have more to do with the fundamental structure of the human anatomy, and my 'allergic reaction' to fire (i.e burning).
Slim Jim @ Apr 5th 2008 12:48PM
WRONG. Ok, the on fire bit may be pushing it, but I have managed to play GH3 with the official wireless controller both with my teeth AND behind my back. Not at the same time mind.

i always though the contorels where unsiversal
Jarhead2012 @ Apr 5th 2008 12:58PM
Not on the PS3 version. That was the whole big problem, on the 360 the GH controller worked with rock band, but the RB controller didn't work with Guitar Hero. On the PS3 there was NO compatability WHATSOEVER. that's why.
sn1per @ Apr 5th 2008 12:55PM
But will it be compatible with Rock Band?
sn1per @ Apr 5th 2008 12:56PM
I meant that to be a reply to the Wii version of this guitar. Engadget, fix your commenting system.
Ghen @ Apr 6th 2008 4:19PM
No, the wii rockband guitar won't even use the wiimote.. its not even close to the same system as guitar hero. Just one more reason why nobody should buy the game and yet thousands will because they're misinformed.
Jarhead2012 @ Apr 5th 2008 12:56PM
Looks horrible I think. Also, the neck on all the Nyko guitars are outrageously big, even larger than the circumference of my REAL guitar's neck o_O. I have never liked the nyko guitars, because they look and feel like junk, even though the stomp boxes are pretty sweet, I will admit.
freakscene @ Apr 5th 2008 2:31PM
Wow, that guitar looks like the product of some future race who has never seen a guitar and tries to reconstruct one from pictographs.
matthew @ Apr 5th 2008 2:44PM
i gotta say... i hate the whole guitar hero thing but i did try the drum part of rock band at a bes buy and i'm addicted now
bluestriker @ Apr 5th 2008 3:34PM
Sorry, but was this thing hit with the ugly stick?
Gary Dominicus @ Apr 5th 2008 4:34PM
Still pretty cool, even at $60.
holycow @ Apr 5th 2008 4:47PM
Magenta!!! T-mobile will sue them i bet!
hhhenryhhh @ Apr 5th 2008 6:24PM
so does it strum like GH guitar or RB's?
kn0w1 @ Apr 6th 2008 6:05AM
hrmm.. wonder if this would work with the older (PS2) Guitar Hero's on PS3? I've heard that while the game works, getting GH controllers to work correctly is a different story.
Jaime Romero @ Apr 8th 2008 7:07PM
But I heard that TAC is coming out with one thats for both RockBand and all of GH series and for both PS2 & PS3...and it looks like Nykos doesnt have the solo buttons u need for RockBand
