Everex is popping off a new gOS powered box tonight, given the unfortunate monicker of MyMiniPC. While $500 is way more than enough to get you started on a low-end Windows box (and even most of the way there toward a Mac mini), the MyMiniPC comes equipped with a 1.86GHz Pentium T2130 and 512MB RAM running gOS "Space", a 120GB drive, DVD±RW, firewire, four USB 2.0 ports, DVI and S-Video out gigabit Ethernet, media reader, and standard audio ins/outs. Everex is all playing up the whole space theme and MySpace integration, segueing that into avatar-based help experience called "Dave" (i.e. use the Ask Dave function to get help). So, what, does that make us all HALs? Too meta, Everex. Larger interface shot after the break.
ripoff
For a couple hundred bucks more you can get the real thing.
You mean: a hundred bucks.
hmm. dump the gOS and get something useful on it, and you're set.
Is that even lawsuit proof? It looks very familiar.
looks like Windows XP + ObjectDock/RocketDock + Stacker Docklet
been out for a while
and no a 2nd note they shoulda stuck to the Cloud brand and called it Cloudmini
meh, i am suprised it is $500 with a free os. low end proc, not a lot of ram. rest of features are fine.
gos doesnt seem as good as most linux distros but i wouldnt call it a mac rip off (you can make linux look exactly like mac os if you wanted and they didnt do it)
It's got laptop components in it, which raises the price a good deal.
ya i guess your right. not cost effective enough for me to buy but i guess some people may like it.
For that kind of coin, I'd much rather have a refurb'd mac mini. Failsauce Everex, failsauce.
Wow, I thought that gOS looked like os x before. But now, It looks like a complete copyjob. I mean, I know everyone is trying to be like Apple, but this is the biggest rip since Meizu, considering the fact that they get off by the skin of their teeth, and deny that they copied Apple in any way. Sad part is, you can look at any of their products and see another similar product within the design, they even copied the Zune.
But still, Everex deserves to be sued by Apple, that is a crappy rendition of an OS X wannabe.
Hey Jordan Biffle, you do know that Apple rips of other companies just as often they they are ripped off?
The iPhone was a rip off of the LG Prada phone, MacBook keyboard was a rip off from the Sony 505, The G5/MacPro case was a rip off of a cheese grader, and Apple's evil attitude of stealing software and creative ideas for their OS and TV ads was ripped off from Microsoft.
But it's ok since it was Apple.... they can do no wrong... Jobs is just a giant pack of mentos.
You're kidding, right? The iPhone is no more a rip-off of the Prada than the Sansa e280 is of the iPod.
As for the rest of your listed supposed rip-offs, they hardly warrant a response.
The mac pro case isn't a copy of a cheese grater, it's a Braun T1000 radio.
I don't care who copied whom. Microsoft copied the mouse from Apple. I wish Apple had copied the two-button mouse back. Whatever. That's how it works. Ideas catch on. And this idea seems pretty unabashedly to come from Stacks...which is a shame, since Stacks is really not the most innovative or exciting part of Leopard.
and Apple copied the Mouse from Xerox... please name one product Apple made on their own without ripping someone off in one way or another.
Maybe only the Newton, but there were some devices at the time that may have "inspired" Apple in that direction.
Face it, Apple is just as dirty as Microsoft. The only reason Apple can do no evil is the army of fanboys who defend Apple even when they say the sky is green. All Microsoft has is that zune tattoo guy.
Don't get me wrong, I love Mac OS. I do use Apple hardware as my main computer, but ONLY because I have no choice. I wish I could just install OSX on a Panasonic laptop and be done with it. I don't want to deal with hacks.
I like OSX far better than Windows, but I REALLY HATE Apple hardware. Such cheap overpriced junk on anything under $2000USD. Even those $500 Acer laptops are better built than the normal MacBooks. I just can't figure out why Apple uses such low quality plastic for their laptops.
Another thing that pisses me off is that Apple charges $150 extra just to get the same laptop in black. It pisses me off even more that some people are stupid enough to pay for it.
Hey, Everex! That sound you hear? Yeah, that's the sound of lawyers knocking on your door.
Of all the OS X features one would want to rip off, they chose to rip off STACKS?!
Exact same thing I was thinking...
At least Apple kind of got the right idea by offering the "list" option.
Nope they didn't rip it off. In leopard stacks curve to the right. This clearly curves to the left.
imac: that's what she said
I just want that background lol
Can someone please find that wallpaper? Please?!?!?!?!
Thanks, thats a great destop picture.... Oh and as for the computer... well, its a sad day when the only thing you have going for ya is your jpeg backdrop haha... Seriously though, it would make a great little media center PC...
i currently ripped it off the live cd
here you go

too small NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I think it would still look good on my V3xx lol
yeh no thanks. i'll get the 300 dollar Asus EE Desktop when its released in a few months.
RTFA. It's gOS.
http://www.thinkgos.com/
Nah, Its lawsuit proof alright.. Notice the pop up list... IT has a slight curve in the top.. YEAH Thats right kids!
I kinda like it. What you're paying for is the compact size. I'm actually downloading gOS now so I can try it out on my PC. I like the screen shots I've seen so far and I do use linux on my PC so I'm interested to find out what it's like.
I've been using Mandrake/Mandriva for years. I like to try them all out. It's not that big of a deal to just make some space and add it to the boot manager. Besides, it's free so what the hell.
Six months ago I purchased a 14in laptop with twice the ram, home premium (no bashing now), and a screen (who'd a thunk?) for $450. Why would I ever want to pay $50 more and get this piece of junk.
its all about what suits your needs. i imagine this will be placed in many living rooms and hooked up tp to a big screen tv. its small and conveniant.
your laptop has a much larger footprint and would not be well suited to do that job.
as an example .. i could use my laptop in my car with a gps add-on. sure it will do the job and faster as well as doing many other things but it is not well suited for that job.
this is an slight exaggerated example of why these smaller systems are selling , including umpcs, eee's etc.
As others have said, Apple has also copied from others, but receives little to no criticism.

Can ANYONE find that awesome background?? I really want it as well as I'm sure Striker does. Thanks!!!!
Yet another sad, desperate cry for attention from Everex.
wait, I'm sorry, didn't you say this was not a mac? i could have sworn that screenshot looked EXACTLY like MacOSX Leopard, hmmm....
I'm sorry, but people fail to realize that just because it has a Dock, does not make it EXACTLY like Leopard.
That looks an awful loot like AWN, which by the way, the linux community has had for a LONG time, which means Apple has had plenty of time to sue.
Since that looks like AWN, I'm gonna assume that gOS has stopped using E17 and has switched to what looks like Gnome.
I believe he meant the backwards-leaning stacks.
I'de like to build something that small, but with higher power. $500??? How about $99. I like the design, but the power and price make me turn in disgust.
What is it with these weak processors. Why do we need to keep developing weak processors, when with the same amount of power and technology, we can continualy develope more powerful technology.
i already have a snes
Let me join in again and say I also want that background!
The workaround is to click the date of the post you wish to respond to, then click the reply in the resultant page. Just make sure it says "replying to *name*" above the comment field before you Add Your Comments.
yeah! like teh generalissimo said. it's not gOS, it's gOS! RTFA, mofo!
It's a little deeper then stacks

Ripoff. You can configure a Dell with 2 GB RAM and a Core 2 Duo processor for only $529. Not saying that Dells are great or anything, but considering you're getting 4x the RAM and a better processor (and Windows, which I'm not a fan of either, but beats out gOS), this is way overpriced.
yet another sad ripoff of a mac mini. seriously, that gOS is a total joke. stupid.
Right idea - wrong price.

This is a better deal than Mac Mini...this has a DVD burner, so it'd be comparable to the Mini with the SuperDrive, which is $200 more. Now, if you want ludicrous, check this out: http://www.seanix.com/MiniPC.asp
Look familiar?
look alright, but I would rather build my own!
does anyone else get a 403 on the gOS website?
I would love something like this because of the low energy usage. Not this though, I think I will wait for the EEE desktop like everyone else and pop Windows 2000 and Ubuntu on :-)
Before ANYONE bashes the new gOS Software, Try it when it is released, give it a chance. I will assure you guys that it has improved in speed, stability and features.
I'm Dave, the "avatar," and the "Ask Dave" icon is just a link to my myspace page. The MyMiniPC is an exciting product because it's a Linux operating system developed for MySpace users for MySpace usage (and other similar web entertainment consumption). I'm not an F1 Help guy for troubleshooting, or an asian guy version of the paper clip... all I'm really is a first friend on the desktop. I hope to provide a little bit of familiarity to users who are new to Linux or gOS Space (kind of like how having Tom can either annoy you, or help you get introduced to MySpace).
p.s. Ryan, thanks for the early coverage. Hope you get a chance to use gOS Space -- it's not available at the time of my writing, but perhaps by the time of your reading it will be. Send me an email and I'll be sure to send you a link to download. Thanks!

How can anyone say this is not a Leopard ripoff? The 3D dock, stacks, the Spotligh icon in the upper right corner and the main menu icon in the upper left corner. Come on, they've got to be more creative than that.
OK ... people ... that "0/S X dock rip off" all the fanboys are barking about is just silly ... Apple didn't design it ... they took it from Linux and prettied it up for macs ... it's been around a long time. Apple just buys other people's technology and integrates it nicely into it's own product. They've been doing it for years.
The iPod was technology gathered from all over the place squished into an excellent product.
That's not the point. The point it that it looks exactly like the dock Apple uses in Leopard. At least make it look different.
Actually, freakmarket... I believe the dock comes originally from NeXT. Linux programmers took the NeXT interface and adapted it for Linux with Afterstep. Apple bought out the defunct NeXT OS technology or Jobs brought it with him when he rejoined Apple, something like that. Then Apple and/or Jobs himself incorporated NeXT into what we see today as OSX.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NeXT
So it seems to me that at least in this case, Apple stole nothing. They bought it.
Just so you all know, the new gOS is available for Download off of their website (http://thinkGOS.com). I just installed it and it rocks. Definately a step up
My god, look at that website. It's basically Apple.com copy-paste. I'm sorry, but anyone who doesn't see this is just plain blind. I rest my case.
Yeah... that's a more than obvious Apple website copy.
KIRF!!!
Everex is the WORST computing company in the history of MAN!!! They released their cloudbook computer without putting the Linux drivers online. Nor did they provide a CD or any recourse aside from sending it back in to get the OS reinstalled. These guys blow like the wind. I hope this epically fails.

Wow, what the heck is the market for this? My brother just ordered a bunch of Vostro 200 low profile machines for his office from Dell and it *includes* a 19" LCD monitor for $399. Is there some portability niche market for desktops that I'm missing?
So this time the PC is neither called green nor is it less energy hungry.
Still no real specs or support data - and still unclear about proper licencing terms of gOS itself.
At least the size is much more reasonable now.
@ screenshot
you're kidding right?
