Everex is popping off a new gOS powered box tonight, given the unfortunate monicker of MyMiniPC. While $500 is way more than enough to get you started on a low-end Windows box (and even most of the way there toward a Mac mini), the MyMiniPC comes equipped with a 1.86GHz Pentium T2130 and 512MB RAM running gOS "Space", a 120GB drive, DVD±RW, firewire, four USB 2.0 ports, DVI and S-Video out gigabit Ethernet, media reader, and standard audio ins/outs. Everex is all playing up the whole space theme and MySpace integration, segueing that into avatar-based help experience called "Dave" (i.e. use the Ask Dave function to get help). So, what, does that make us all HALs? Too meta, Everex. Larger interface shot after the break.

This is a better deal than Mac Mini...this has a DVD burner, so it'd be comparable to the Mini with the SuperDrive, which is $200 more. Now, if you want ludicrous, check this out: http://www.seanix.com/MiniPC.asp
Look familiar?
look alright, but I would rather build my own!
does anyone else get a 403 on the gOS website?
I would love something like this because of the low energy usage. Not this though, I think I will wait for the EEE desktop like everyone else and pop Windows 2000 and Ubuntu on :-)
Before ANYONE bashes the new gOS Software, Try it when it is released, give it a chance. I will assure you guys that it has improved in speed, stability and features.
I'm Dave, the "avatar," and the "Ask Dave" icon is just a link to my myspace page. The MyMiniPC is an exciting product because it's a Linux operating system developed for MySpace users for MySpace usage (and other similar web entertainment consumption). I'm not an F1 Help guy for troubleshooting, or an asian guy version of the paper clip... all I'm really is a first friend on the desktop. I hope to provide a little bit of familiarity to users who are new to Linux or gOS Space (kind of like how having Tom can either annoy you, or help you get introduced to MySpace).
p.s. Ryan, thanks for the early coverage. Hope you get a chance to use gOS Space -- it's not available at the time of my writing, but perhaps by the time of your reading it will be. Send me an email and I'll be sure to send you a link to download. Thanks!

How can anyone say this is not a Leopard ripoff? The 3D dock, stacks, the Spotligh icon in the upper right corner and the main menu icon in the upper left corner. Come on, they've got to be more creative than that.
OK ... people ... that "0/S X dock rip off" all the fanboys are barking about is just silly ... Apple didn't design it ... they took it from Linux and prettied it up for macs ... it's been around a long time. Apple just buys other people's technology and integrates it nicely into it's own product. They've been doing it for years.
The iPod was technology gathered from all over the place squished into an excellent product.
That's not the point. The point it that it looks exactly like the dock Apple uses in Leopard. At least make it look different.
Actually, freakmarket... I believe the dock comes originally from NeXT. Linux programmers took the NeXT interface and adapted it for Linux with Afterstep. Apple bought out the defunct NeXT OS technology or Jobs brought it with him when he rejoined Apple, something like that. Then Apple and/or Jobs himself incorporated NeXT into what we see today as OSX.

So it seems to me that at least in this case, Apple stole nothing. They bought it.
Just so you all know, the new gOS is available for Download off of their website (http://thinkGOS.com). I just installed it and it rocks. Definately a step up
My god, look at that website. It's basically Apple.com copy-paste. I'm sorry, but anyone who doesn't see this is just plain blind. I rest my case.
Yeah... that's a more than obvious Apple website copy.
KIRF!!!
Everex is the WORST computing company in the history of MAN!!! They released their cloudbook computer without putting the Linux drivers online. Nor did they provide a CD or any recourse aside from sending it back in to get the OS reinstalled. These guys blow like the wind. I hope this epically fails.

Wow, what the heck is the market for this? My brother just ordered a bunch of Vostro 200 low profile machines for his office from Dell and it *includes* a 19" LCD monitor for $399. Is there some portability niche market for desktops that I'm missing?
So this time the PC is neither called green nor is it less energy hungry.
Still no real specs or support data - and still unclear about proper licencing terms of gOS itself.
At least the size is much more reasonable now.

you're kidding right?
