Can we call the new company Yahoogle? They can get a patent all that is the internet, and sue deuchecomm for using it to back their magenta-hogging ways.
The joke was about the line "Make no mistake about it, this is corporate war and will likely end with Yahoo's best engineers working for Google." Lol, for christ sake, no one else thinks Google should get in on the biddng for yahoo action?
Well, the way I see it, real competition can only be good for Google. Microsoft's pitiful live search is just a couple notches above useless, and Yahoo's okay, but it doesn't have the beautiful simplicity of Google. If MicroHoo could give Google a decent run for its money, we as the user would end up with two good and constantly improving search choices, instead of one great search engine and two rather pathetic ones.
I mean seriously think about Microsoft's Live search engine. Think about the gimmickry they had to resort to in order to get people to use their product, like building it into their browser (not that Mozilla and Apple haven't extended the same courtesy to Google), and the Live Club insanity. If you don't know what it is, you play games to build up points and redeem them for prizes, and the games are designed to make you use Live Search to play. If that's not a ploy to get more hits on their search engine, I don't know what is.
@Ryan Trevisol: Bundling Live search with their browser? I'm quite sure people must feel the same way when Apple bundles iLife, or some gadgets bundle high-quality add-ons to their device. I guess it makes little difference, right?
You're also wrong about Live Search Club, or at least what it's meant to do. You're right on how it's you play games and earn points by using Live Search. But the whole "point" of throwing Live Search, in "Live Search" Club, is for MS to show off their search engine. That will actually encourage users to try out Live Search at least.
At the same time, the user benefits by getting a little entertainment out of the games, getting points to cash in for prizes, or even helping out your local charity/organization. Really, you can help donate cash to your favorite local organization by earning points for it. I've racked up a lot for my HS athletic booster club, and I'm darn proud of it. If you don't believe me:
Plus I learn interesting trivia, expand some vocab, and it's pretty neat. It's a marketing ploy, but a GOOD marketing ploy. There's really no downsides.
I'm betting most people wouldn't even try an alternative search engine, unless they can be pulled in somehow, like through LSC. I know I would NEVER have even bothered trying anything other than Google search, until I actually tried Live Search through these games. There's some ways how Live Search is pretty nifty, but you only know if you actually try it. Not make remarks about it.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.

I think you missed an important detail...
haha! wow, okay, so um... bad joke? lol
Well, yes it was a bad joke, but you missed the fact that Yahoogle = Yahoo + Google, when this entire story is about Yahoo + Microsoft
Which, of course, yields the infinitely better name Microhoo

I want someone to create a web-based system to search and recall episodes of "The Magic Roundabout". They can call it "Doogle".
